SHARON'S A VICIOUS, CARPING 2-FACED HARRIDAN

SAYS X-FACTOR RHYDIAN'S PARENTS

By Robbie Collin & Dan Wootton

THE parents of popera singer Rhydian Roberts have accused X Factor judge dreadful Sharon Osbourne of trying to destroy their son.

Mortified Malcolm and Angela Roberts labelled Sharon a "two-faced old harridan" and fear she is wrecking Rhydian's chances of winning the show.

Fuming dad Malcolm, 58, last night told News of the World: "That Sharon is a vicious piece of work."

And mum Angela says she fears for her Welsh boy's sanity after Sharon unleashed a string of attacks on Rhydian in front of millions.

VIDEO SPECIAL: Watch Rhydian's interview

"I've had the lad on the phone in tears," said Angela, 56. "Sharon is supposed to be a professional. I'm scared stiff that her nasty, sustained carping and vicious comments about my son are destroying him."

Last night viewers watched as Sharon launched into the 25-year-old blond again, calling him “strange” and “weird”.

The acid-tongued judge then embarrassed Rhydian by demanding he take off his top, begging: “Let me see your chest.”

Fans of the ITV1 show have witnessed similar Shaz attacks on Rhydian before, in which she called him “revolting” and accused him of being arrogant.

She also said she felt like “KILLING” the Welsh warbler because he was over-confident.

Dad Malcolm added: "Rhydian doesn't deserve abuse from Sharon Osbourne or anyone else—and she certainly should not be threatening to kill him!

"Sharon's a hypocritical old harridan. She has the nerve to slag our son off in front of the cameras and then, when they're in private, she tells him he sings beautifully and she hopes that he wins.

"The other day she even gave him a big hug off camera and told him she loved him. She's completely two-faced. Rhydian's still a young man and she's messing with his mind quite unnecessarily. It's doing his head in."

Fake

Speaking from their home in the rolling Brecon Beacons in Powys, mum Angela adds: "Rhydian told us Sharon Osbourne was winking at him while she was supposedly furious at him.

"She was ranting for the benefit of the cameras but it's all a fake."

It's not the first time Sharon Osbourne has been accused of being a schemer. Last month we told how her brother David Arden, 56, broke years of silence and branded Sharon, 54, a back-stabbing control freak.

He also revealed some of her revenge tatics—including a very dirty trick she played on Sir Elton John's Rolls-Royce.

And now, according to Angela and Malcolm, Sharon is dumping on their son—despite them begging her to "lay off" him.

"Rhydian is being criticised in the most unpleasant and unfair manner for things that are untrue and have nothing to do with his singing ability," complains Angela.

The parents believe their son is being made out to be an egomaniac by X Factor chiefs because he is an intelligent public schoolboy. They are horrified that he is being portrayed as the villain of the show.

Millionaire Malcolm demands: "Why are they turning him into an object of hatred? Rhydian was head boy at school, has a first-class degree and is a committed Christian who doesn't drink! He's the perfect son.

"He's also good at cricket, rugby and, above all, he's absolutely brilliant at singing."

He believes his son's treatment is a symptom of a "disease" that is sweeping Britain.

"What a sad reflection on the state of this country that a normal, middle-class lad should be a figure of hate," said Malcolm, who runs an electrical engineering business.

Hurt

"Britain has become a country full of bums, and if you try to work hard and do your best, you are pilloried here."

The Roberts family, who live in a £700,000 14th century detached home, have also been "extremely hurt" by suggestions that their son is gay.

Dismissing the speculation on his son's sexuality as "utter nonsense and completely untrue", Malcolm says: "Rhydian is a very well balanced person. He's not promiscuous but he doesn't bat for the other side either.

"He's had girlfriends but he is looking for someone special who he loves, a woman he can spend the rest of his life with.

"He's been brought up to respect women. Surely that's a good thing?"

Angela adds: "It is disgusting. How would you feel if your child was being made to look like a horrible person on TV?

"They've decided to turn him into the villain and it is all being set up to make him look like that. I just think it's so sad. You have to question why the X Factor bosses think they have to do that.

"Rhydian feels he has to go along with it so he might get a record deal at the end."

Malcolm says: "He puts a brave face on it, but I know he finds it difficult to cope with people attacking him. It's really unfair and unjustified.

"I'm proud of him going on this programme and getting so far but we do worry about the effect it's having on him.

"Rhydian has got broad shoulders but the fact is that everyone can crack."

They also revealed that Rhydian has not always been the super-fit blond he is now.

His natural hair colour is in fact ginger and he was "podgy" as a child, according to his parents.

"I don't think he'll be going back to ginger," says Angela. "He hated his hair as a teenager and also wasn't happy about his weight. But now he exercises for an hour or two every day. He's very disciplined.

"If he puts his mind to something, he sticks to it—let's hope that includes winning X Factor and silencing Sharon Osbourne.
