Shock exit for favourites

By Dan Wootton

THERE was a shock result in The X Factor last night as Simon Cowell chose to kick out boy band favourites Futureproof over sexy girl group Hope.

Neither five-piece were expected to receive the lowest votes from viewers-but after weak performances in big band week they both did.

It was left to the judges to decide who would leave the hit ITV show. Louis and Sharon chose to send home Futureproof while Dannii booted Hope.

Simon-who mentors both bands-had to make the final decision and chose to keep Hope because he thinks they have the best long-term potential.

The straight talking judge said: "I'm not happy. I chose the wrong songs I guess. I'm going to make this decision on who I think has the best long-term potential-I'm not going to judge it on tonight's performance."

He later added: "This was a horrible position to be in. Whatever decision you make is going to be unpopular with one group."

Earlier Futureproof, wearing matching grey shiny suits, sung Can't Take My Eyes Off You but were criticised for their dance moves.

Five-piece Hope had entertained with a raunchy performance of Hanky Panky but were criticised for their vocals.

It was a hugely surprising result as bookmakers has predicted both acts would reach the final weeks of the competition.

For the first time viewers did not put receptionist Alisha in the bottom two, meaning Sharon Osbourne did not face the prospect of losing her only act left in the competition.

Alisha said: "It's overwhelming. I feel blessed and thankful."
