Kear was shown the door by Hull six months after winning the 2005 Challenge Cup. And he savoured this victory, which ended an astonishing run of EIGHT Hull wins at Belle Vue.
Wakefield had won only one of their previous 15 home encounters with Hull since the beginning of Super League.
But that record was consigned to the bin as Brough kicked five goals and a drop. He also had a hand in a couple of their six tries - as well as scoring himself with an 80-metre dash to the line after intercepting a bad pass from Chris Thorman.
Hull's forwards looked out on their feet in the first half as Brough and Brad Drew repeatedly split their defence wide open.
Brough's chip over the top created Wildcats' first try when Dale Ferguson pounced on the loose ball. Three minutes later, another chip over the top, this time from Drew, saw Tony Martin grab the first of his two tries.
After Jamie Rooney released Brough, who flicked it out wide for Matt Petersen to score in the corner, Wakefield went into the break 23-0 up.
But Hull hit back in the second half and nearly made a fight of it. They drew first blood after the restart as Gareth Raynor scored his first try of 2009. Martin replied for Wakefield and Brough's kick appeared to have put the game out of Hull's reach.
However the visitors persevered and a short kick-off led to Jodie Broughton going over, soon to be followed by Kirk Yeaman.
Broughton, on for the injured Mark Calderwood, got home hearts fluttering with a second Hull try as they closed to 31-22. Matt Blaymire wrapped things up for the Wildcats with a try at the death.
SCORERS - Wakefield: tries Ferguson, Brough, Martin 2, Petersen, Blaymire; goals Brough 5, Martin; drop Brough. Hull: tries Raynor, Broughton 2, Yeaman; goals Tickle 3.
