CLASSIC prospect Crowded House put in a stunning performance as he bolted up in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

Jamie Spencer was all dressed up with nowhere to go two furlongs out in yesterday’s final Group 1 race of the season.

But once the 7-1 shot (right) saw daylight, Brian Meehan’s colt quickened to brush aside 2-1 favourite Jukebox Jury and romped home by 3½-lengths.

Another Meehan-trained horse, Skanky Biscuit (16-1), filled third spot. Bookies were impressed, with totesport and William Hill going 14-1 about Crowded House for the 2009 Derby.

Winning jockey Spencer was also impressed and said: “He’s a smasher! He was fresh going down to the start with me. I planned to be bang there but I had to change it because of that.

Serious

“When he did get out I didn’t even have to get after him. I gave him a tap, I didn’t show him the whip and he went a little left. He’s a class horse.”

Meehan added: “He looks good, he looks a serious horse, he did it so well. It’s good Skanky Biscuit was third too, he’s very progressive.”

Arc winning rider Christophe Soumillon made his day trip to Newbury worthwhile as he teamed up with Sir Michael Stoute to collect the Mountgrange Stud Stakes aboard EVASIVE.

Stan James and William Hill go 16-1 on Evasive for the 2000 Guineas with Totesport offer 25-1.
