The German steered his way to a fine victory in Suzuka as he led from start to finish and is in the mood to pile the pressure on the Brit, who has been the runaway leader for some time.
Vettel is 16 points behind the Braun ace with Rubens Barrichello 14 points adrift after finishing a place above his team-mate in Japan.
With two races to go in the championship, all eyes will be on Brazil in a fortnight's time.
Vettel warned: "I will fight to the last breath. It is looking a lot better now.
"I know what I have to do, win the last two races and see what happens then. I know it is still in Brawn's hands.
"But it can still be done. It would be nice to have a couple more races left, but with two races to go, we are here to fight and the best thing we can do is win like today.
"We have a great car, still improving, everyone in the factory is improving so we'll see."
