Andrea Dossena has backed Liverpool team-mate Alberto Aquilani to form the Premier League's best midfield partnership with Steven Gerrard.

The Italy international is close pals with new £20m signing Aquilani and believes his compatriot will take the league by storm when he finally reaches full fitness.

The ex-Roma star came on as a substitute again in the 2-2 draw with Birmingham on Monday, when he was expected to start, but the international break will allow him to prove to Rafa Benitez he is ready for a place in the starting line-up.

Dossena explained: "Potentially, Aquilani is a great player. He is only 25, he has yet to gain experience, especially at international level, but he is a tremendous talent.

"He is a complete midfielder who can do everything at both ends of the pitch, he can run, defend, make a hard tackle or score with his terrific shot from long distance.

"He and Gerrard together can give us the strongest midfield in the league, and one of the strongest at European level. Over the past two seasons he has played little football because of his injuries, but when he is fully fit he will prove his value.

"Give him just a little time to settle in England, on and off the pitch, and he will be a sensational player."

Lets Hope so. Hope he takes a few runs at the defenders and be the missing link in the midfield to create the play at post-alonso era.

107 appearances in 7 seasons at roma tells me we won't see much of gerrard and aquilani playing toegther anyways.

aquilani and gerrard can really form a great partnership in the liverpool squad was aquilani gets 100% fit, the team should be Reina Aurelio, carragher, skertel, johnson, macherano, aquilani, gerrard, benayoun, kyut and torres

If Alberto can stay clear of injuries and have a good run in the team, I have no doubt that Dossena's prediction will come to past. Alberto Aquilani is a fantastic acquisition.
