BARCELONA are closing in on a January swoop for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

Barca are convinced that the Reds are ready to unload the Argentine international during the transfer window and have set aside £20million to complete the deal.

According to Spanish sources, the Catalan giants will see how the market unfolds and show their hand as the January deadline approaches.

The sources insist: "Any approach for Mascherano would have no effect on Barca's intention to add a forward to their ranks with Robinho and Luis Suarez topping the list of possible signings."

The Merseysiders are understood to be ready to cash in on the former West Ham man and use the cash to strengthen their attack and put an end to their over reliance on Fernando Torres for goals.

hahahahaha!

20m ARE U HAVIN A LAUGH......

the fee starts at 35m!!!, because he's worth more than alonso, rafa is stubborn won't let him go for anything shorter than what we got for xabi.

Rafa has also said he wants 40m - 50m, so doubt he'll come down to 20m...

Fact is liverpool can use the money and yaya toure, busquets, de rossi, cana, there's others out there who can do the job masch does.

hope lucas, voronin, degen, dossena go soon.
and if mascherano as to go then i would like to see maybe lass diarra or busquets or yaya to replace him.
we need more strikers, we should sign pandev on a free, and sign some one like defoe, carlton cole or agbonlahor.
we also should sell skrtel he isnt good enough and the greek as to go and we should sign upson, solid english defender and give kelly or ayala the 4th place.

90% of his signings are stinkers?

lol, id like to know where you get your source material from.

absolutely not true.

you'd think google had never been invented the way people throw around unfounded nonsense.

Hope this isn't true. But i think he will go. liverpool seem to have lost their way big time for a long time. I see them coming 5th 6th or 7th soon unless they pull their finger out. Not sure about rafa either. Its well documented 90% of his signing stink. The few good ones he gets rid of or 'HE' mismanages and leave.
Should liverpool really have a manager who constantly keeps quoting they can't compete with Manu, Chelsea.. so on. If rafa's 3rd, or 4th, is liverpools 1st, Big Big questions have to be asked, and not only by Mascherano.

liverpool had a great tradition of staying with their managers. Which was easy when they won everything with great ones, sadly it's now held them back massively for 20 yrs. So not to sure of the supposed wisdom/knowledge in that. Given Chelsea etc, would have sacked them got a better one and won a few titles.

Selling Mascherano would be a disasterous idea. The squad needs improving not destroying by getting rid of the best players. The deadwood like Lucas, Dosenna and Voronin should be sold to raise funds for transfers not one of the few genuinely worldclass players we have. What next? Gerrard or Torres?

20m with Toure coming the other way for 10m. The 10m difference would go towards Villa and then all of Liverpool's problems are solved in one smart window!

This would be a big mistake. 20m? Macharano is worth double that in today's market, he is one of only a few world class defensive midfielders.
