DAVIDS WEIGHS UP LEICESTER OFFER

Mandaric still keen to pull off Dutch coup

LEICESTER have offered Dutch star Edgar Davids a performance-related deal.

The veteran midfielder, 36, is a free agent but the Foxes want to be convinced he can regain his match fitness.

Davids has been out of action since ending his second spell with Ajax in the summer of 2008.

Leicester owner Milan Mandaric confirmed: "It would be a performance- based contract.

"We want to make sure he can contribute on the field and our manager Nigel Pearson wants that.

"He is welcoming that on the condition he is healthy and fit and ready to go. We have a good fitness department and he will go through that and they will give us a green light. But that would be a condition of him signing. Right now we are talking about numbers and conditions."

Davids has played for both Milan clubs, Juventus and Spurs and is now weighing up Leicester's offer.

Mandaric added: "He is a special player and he would bring a different dimension to what we already have.

"He is a classy player with great qualities and that is what Nigel wants.

"Nigel has been part of it from the first day.

"He was the one who has been coming back to me saying he wanted to give it a try."
