SUNDERLAND boss Steve Bruce could switch his attention to Fulham's Paul Konchesky if Wigan continue to block his bid for Maynor Figueroa.

Dave Whelan does not want the Black Cats chief to raid his old club again after landing Lee Cattermole in the summer although Bruce was incredibly dogged in persuading the Latics to part with their combative midfielder.

If the answer remains a firm 'no', the Wearsiders will need to look elsewhere for a new left-back and Konchesky fits the bill.

The twice-capped England defender is still waiting for new talks to start over extending his current deal at Craven Cottage and appeared to fall out with a section of the fans during the midweek win against Blackburn.

The 28-year-old cost £3.25million when moving across London from West Ham in July, 2007.
