CHELSEA must match Sergio Aguero's huge £6.5million a year wages to land the Atletico Madrid ace.

New Stamford Bridge chief executive Ron Gourlay found out the £30million-rated striker earns £4m a year NET.

Blues thought their No 1 target made around £50,000 a week but it has now emerged he earns more than double that.

Aguero, has been told he can leave Atletico in the January transfer window.

But he has already made it clear he will not settle for a penny less if he moves to Stamford Bridge.

His wage demands have stunned Gourlay, who is hoping to make Aguero his first signing since replacing Peter Kenyon.

A deal like that would make him the third highest paid player at the club - behind John Terry and Frank Lampard.

In addition to the potential £30m transfer fee, his wages will be a huge outlay for a player who is ineligible for the Champions League.

With the club still expecting to be banned from transfer business from the summer of 2010, Chelsea are hoping to make signings in January.

Despite the huge financial outlay, Aguero remains top of Chelsea's shopping list.
