PORTO PONDER McCARTHY RETURN

McCARTHY: Porto fancy a January reunion

PORTO have been put on alert by Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce's admission that he is willing to sell Benni McCarthy in January.

The South African striker won the Champions League with the Portuguese side in 2004 before moving for £2.5million to Rovers, where he has become a bit part player this season.

Porto are interested in his return, though they will want Blackburn to help smooth the deal by paying some of his wages.

Portsmouth are also pondering a bid for McCarthy - if Rovers are happy to let him go in a cut-price deal. But Allardyce has initially ruled out allowing the 31-year-old to leave too cheaply, insisting: "There would be a certain value we would place on him."

The player is desperate to leave Blackburn so he can force his way back into his country's plans for next summer's World Cup.

McCarthy was handed a shock recall to the 2010 host's squad by coach Carlos Alberto Parreira for the games against Jamaica and Japan next weekend.

And he wants to capitalise on that by returning to his free scoring ways during the second half of the season.

blackburn will be relegated this season if they sell benni,i dnt know what big sam wants, all the time he will brag about benni 's fitness, then he fields him on the next match and he scorers what more do you want,he is the top striker at blackburn, why not sell others and give benni a chance.

Like were going to sell him Porto and pay some of his wages Lol.

As for Portsmouth they have no chance, you dont sell your best striker to a relegation rival even Rovers are not that stupid.

Point being we aint desperate and as Allardyce said yesterday if he can get his fitness up to the level it should be at, he will be playing every week.

He wants to go to the World Cup now its time he got back to the form he had 2 seasons ago, his goals to games ratio at Blackburn is awesome.

I am a Blackburn fan and this is very interesting news. I would be quite happy if Benni left us in January, he has been a bit player since Big Sam took charge and i don't see him getting into the team every week. He is very unfit at the moment, and it would be a good piece of business to sell him on and get in better striker as a replacement.
