CAPELLO PICKS OUT UNDER-21 QUARTET

JOHNSON: In Capello's England thoughts
JOHNSON: In Capello's England thoughts

FABIO CAPELLO'S thoughts will briefly jump ahead to 2012 on Sunday - he is in Warsaw for the draw for the qualifying stages of the next European Championship.

The England boss has already promised to see out his contract, which runs until the end of Euro 2012.

And he believes the long-term future of the national team is bright.

Capello said: "I think there are players who can step up in the next two years and come into the senior team for the Euros in 2012.

"It is very important that those players make a big step forward this year and then the same next year. If they do that some players will be okay.

"I have seen some players improve but whether this will improve again next year we will have to see.

"Players like Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson.

"It is good for Wilshere to go to Bolton on loan. For a young player like him it will help him mature and develop.

"The future excites me with the young players and I am optimistic about what might happen. We have talent. Without quality it is impossible to go forward and improve - talent makes the difference."

And Capello is convinced the continuing influx of foreign players will not hinder the progress England appears to be making under his guidance.

He said: "The problem is not the foreign players. The good England players - the talented ones - will play. They will come through. It is an excuse to blame foreign players.

"It is the same problem in Italy. People say young players are not coming through because foreign players are there but for me it is not true.

"The good players will always come through. Totti, Maldini, Baresi ... they all came through as youngsters because they had talent and quality."

the sad reason we dont have enough youngsters coming through is because most of them are lazy.
