ALAN PARDEW has told Sport of the World of an ambition that will stun Southampton fans: 'I want to be like Harry Redknapp.'

Tottenham boss Redknapp walked out on Portsmouth and oversaw the end of Southampton's 27-year stay in the top flight in 2005, before returning to Pompey.

Ahead of the south coast rivals' FA Cup fifth-round clash next weekend, Saints boss Pardew admitted: "I look at Harry and I think the best years of his career have come right at the end.

"He's 62. It's incredible. After all those years at Bournemouth, then West Ham, Saints and Portsmouth, it's only now that people seem to see what Harry does.

"As much as I want things to happen quickly for me, perhaps I have to look at how things have unfolded for him and just slow down a bit."

Pardew, 48, added: "I look at Harry and see how he's earned his spurs.

"I have learned by mistakes. But in terms of proving myself, I think I'll do it Harry's way now.

"That is why, if a Premier League club offer came along, I wouldn't be tempted to leave Southampton. I feel I have allegiance to the players and fans."

Didn't think like that when you were at Reading did you? Nice to see you've got some loyalty now.

Alan,
Take as long as you like. Saints are taking the road to recovery with both a superb owner and fans that are getting the feel good factor.
It may be a five year plan but it will be worth it.

The sun always shines on the South Coast

Pardew must have a job lot of brown envelopes hanging round if he want to be like old twitchy-face.
