The Belgian midfielder even had a specially adapted boot to protect his injured Achilles.
Kompany was given five painkilling injections before each game and three more at half time to nurse him through the final stages of the season.
He had an operation in the summer and returned as a substitute in last Sunday's 1-1 draw at Wigan.
Kompany, who recently signed a five-year contract at City, said: "It was very painful and I don't really want to remember how many injections I used to have - five before the game and three during.
"It was very frustrating, but the operation was a success and I'm a month ahead of schedule.
"I really didn't expect to be back in the team so quickly and coming on against Wigan was a real surprise."
