Pompey boss accuses Tottenham over Peter Crouch

FRATTON BOSS - Peter Storrie

PORTSMOUTH chief executive Peter Storrie has accused Tottenham of tapping up Peter Crouch.

England striker Crouch quit Fratton Park last month to reunite with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp for the fourth time in his career in a £9million deal.

Storrie is angry after being forced to accept a reduced fee after Crouch rejected moves to Fulham and Sunderland, who were willing to pay in excess of £10m.

He rapped: "So far as I'm concerned, if I don't have to do a deal with Tottenham I will be very happy about that.

"We were prepared to report Tottenham to the Premier League over the way it was being dealt with.

"The reality is we all know managers tap players up. It's part of the game. It's not right, it's illegal and against Premier League rules, but we know it happens. Everyone does it."

Crouch had talks with Sunderland but was set to join Fulham before Redknapp hijacked the deal at the 11th hour.

Storrie added: "Peter was very honest and open about it and said he wanted to go.

"We said you can do what you like with Fulham or Sunderland. He said he didn't want to go there and he wanted to go to Tottenham."

Storrie, a member of the FA Council, was speaking to 350 supporters at Portsmouth's pre-season fans' forum at Fratton Park.

Meanwhile, Storrie has revealed HE is planning to head a consortium to save the club amid fears that the Arab takeover is about to collapse.

Dubai millionaire Sulaiman Al Fahim has been slow to complete his £60m buyout of current owner Alexandre Gaydamak.

Property tycoon Al Fahim was set a deadline of this weekend to seal the deal by Gaydamak but failed to come up with the cash.

And angry Storrie added: "There has been enough talk. If Al Fahim is going to take over the club, it is about time he should do so."

Re. Adrian. Redknapp gets players by negotiating(is that the right word?) with his mates, the players agents, to get these players big wages that they will gladly take. Poor old Spurs will be just that in a couple of seasons and facing liquidation just like us.

Peter Storrie and Harry Redknapp have worked together for years both at West Ham and Pompey.Nobody knows how Redknapp operates better than Storrie which is what makes this story credible.

Remember the fuss Spurs made about United and Liverpool 'tapping up' Berbatov and Keane?

Hypocrites of the highest order.

Spurs are a big club, with loyal fans. I only hope that cross eyed muppet dose not get u bankrupt like he has done to Pompey. P.S. its nice of you to name your club after a GEORDIE HERO. WY I MAN.

Redknapp makes me laugh....he moaned about Man Utd disrupting players and as soon as he went to spurs he unsettled players up and down the premier league.

By skinnychris.. Posted August 16 2009 at 9:55 AM.

Harry has got to be the most unsavoury manager around. I used to like Spurs until they appointed Harry the snake.

c'mon pompey fans when redknapp was at your club he got you some great players...how did he do that? the same as he's doing now at spurs...stop being a hypoctite
becouse he's not at your club anymore!!!

Every manager does it? Well to me thats an admission that he knows his own managers have done such things, therefore he should keep quiet.
He could have said to Crouch that they were refusing to accept Tottenham's offer and that he had to either stay or go to Fulham or Sunderland.

It's clear Pompey need the money, so they accepted the lower bid from Tottenham. Try running your clubs finances properly and you won't find yourself backed into a corner will you?

Same old Redknapp - he will have taken his normal 10% and Spurs buy their way out of mediocricy

Quote: "It's not right, it's illegal and against Premier League rules, but we know it happens. Everyone does it." Then shut up. If 'everyone does it' you do it to. The only problem is, no one wants to go to your crappy club.
