The Madison Square clash on November 8 will be both the first defence of his new light-heavyweight crown - and the last fight of his career.
The boy from Newbridge was last year also crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year, seeing off fellow boxer Ricky Hatton and Formual One speed king Lewis Hamilton in the process.
Here we look back at Calzaghe's top 10 fights in an amazing career which has spanned 15 years.
AMERICAN fighter Jeff Lacy may have survived until the 12th round but he ended up a battered, bruised and bloodied figure.
This was a model peformance by Newbridge boy Calzaghe as he unified his WBF super middleweight title and grabbed Lacy's IBO title.
Calzaghe took the fight 119-105, 119-107, 119-107.

I'd have to rate Lennox Lewis above Calzaghe simply because he fought more dangerous fights more often in his career i.e. 35-0 Gary Mason in his 14th fight (adding the British title to his European title!) Calzaghe really didn't step it up until he fought Jeff Lacy in 2006 and most of the other 'world' champions he faced had already been 'beaten' by rival champ Sven Ottke. Hopkins & Jones were far from their best coming into their fight with Joe they were 2-2 & 3-3 with a combined age of nearly 85! As for the age thing between Joe & Roy, Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest of them all, was 55-2 when he was 36 & when he retired at nearly 40 he 56-5. Personally I place Ted Lewis & Jimmy Wilde as Britain's best ever boxers followed by the above two.

Lets not forget Hopkins won every round against Pavlik, and outclassed him. Calzaghe beat Hopkins, what can he prove by fighting a smaller guy who cant beat Calzaghes last victim? Think about what you say before you simply iconoclast.
As for Roy Jones showing him up, I think you have shown yourself up. Now its time to give the man some respect he richly deserves. He is not to blame for a greedy Warren wanting larger purses for himself or the fact he was born 5 years to late.
Or in reality the fact that the Yanks duck so many of our fighters. Do you think Carl Froch wants to keep fighting bums? That guy could take Chad Dawson but will he get the fight?
Who can he possibly fight to prove you doubters. Noone! You dont fight 6 world champions, including at least two future hall of famers and go 46 and 0 if your not a bit special.

Have you really seen ALL Joes Fights??? I cannot believe that Charles Brewer is left out by so many Knowledgable / or not boxing fans.
Brewer is never or had never been in a bad fight and avoided by many of the so called top fighters in the divisions!! He certainly should be above many you have on the list

Calzaghe has made a career out of fighting, pretenders, bums, tomatoe cans ,and over the hill fighters,to mention his name with Marciano and Joe louis is an insult to there memory.
He is not in same league as these two greats, and Roy Jones jnr, will show him for what he is,mediocre!.

Good Luck Joe Your Lucky To Have This Ur Lucky To Be In The Ring With Roy Jones Jnr.
