MANCHESTER CITY have completed a £25million swoop for Barcelona strike ace Samuel Eto'o.

And they will take their summer spending past the £90m mark by this week confirming they have also landed £30m hitman Carlos Tevez from Manchester United.

Cameroon star Eto'o, 28, is expected to travel to Manchester in the next few days to finalise the deal. Argentine Tevez will sign a four-year deal worth around £140,000 a week on Wednesday.

Eto'o, who initially demanded £200,000 a week after tax, will put pen to paper on a five-year deal worth £180k a week after tax, with further bonuses tied to success.

A source said: "The player could have earned similar money at Barca. But Eto'o and his people think City could be going places and is excited by the type of players they are attracting."

Eto'o's path to City appears to have been cleared by Barca, who are negotiating a £13m deal for Palmeiras whizz Keirrison. Sources believe the Brazilian will then be loaned to Valencia, in return for them letting David Villa go to the Nou Camp for £37m.

City have already spent £30m on Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz.

FC Barcelona must be very careful in her decision about Eto who has been the only African player to score in two Champion league matches each and perform as a out standing point striger for seven(7) years.

I know Barcelona would't like to be like Real Madrid who has suffered from the performence of Samuel Eto for the Past 4-5 years

By Nelson Dunbar.. Posted July 16 2009 at 3:10 PM.

Eto'o is the only player in the world with an outstanding football career.Staying at top position for more than 7 years is not an easy task.To get to the top is easily but to stay at the top is the problem.Site a few examples like Ronaldinho, Beckamp, Ibramovic, kluvert... and many others got to the top so fast but could not stay there as long.
Why not hail Eto's and give him his merits.

let Eto leave so Laporta and barca can feel his presence

I don't think have money will have all. CR and Kaka two world the most brilliant stars travelled to Real ,following the that steps are Benzema,Raul Albiol...and are is Xabi Alonso và Aberloa able to ?

OK. AAahhhh. Take a sip. Calm down. And we shall begin. Ahem. This is the 3rd time i've had to address terified fans of Clubs other than my beloved Man City.

I can see by your comments the fear and anger at Citys INEVITABLE rise to greatness is stronger than ever. Just a weak or two ago everyone was SURE that Tevez will stay at United. I mean Why would he ever want to go to City. Oh yeah thats right you clame it's just for the money. How original. I'm sure it had nothing to do with that Red nosed Scotch Wally treating him like a Dog. Nor did it have anything to do with the fact that citys Vision of a truely Magnificent projecet to make a great club who as always deserved more. with the greatest (and for all you fairweather none Mancunian reds) fans in the game. Into the Greatest footballing side on the planet.

I'm sure you all Believe that Smual Eto'o. A player who has never failed to score less Than 17 goals a season Will be a massive flop (even though Fergie would love him at the Swamp).

You will then surely tell me that Its all well and good having all these great attackers when we have no defenders but it's only the end of June. We havent even started bringing in the world class defenders yet.

In Closing I'll leave you by saying to fans of so called big four clubs. it's OK to have these feelings of Fear and anger. And to fans of those other prem league clubs less fortunate than us. It's OK to feel Jealous. If the shoe was on the other foot i'm sure i would too.

Any more strikers and Tevez will have blue splinters in his a..e instead of red ones.

By Dave.. Posted June 29 2009 at 6:57 PM.

i am from barcelona; City you can take Etoó but he doesn´t have a severe coach as Guardiola (Fergusson or Mourinho)... Etoó will easily turn in less than a season to the superstar role;
wich will include speaking out to the press against his team, critics about his field partners or even supporters, to miss trainigs, late arrivals on holidays,...as Etoó started to do (while we also saw the metamorphosis of Ronaldinho) a long repertoire of miseducation and selfish behaviour against the club who pays... unacceptable for a guy who earns 150-200k a week.

By david.. Posted June 29 2009 at 12:53 PM.

This is to FIFA and Mr Platini, football won`t be a comptitive game any more if these mega transfers keep going on.The balance in football in getting out of controll, nowadays it`s money talks.Platini should plan a stratigic issue like no club can spend more than 50 mill in one transfer window or otherwise plan for a super league for the super clubs.Something must have to be done.By the way i`m a West Ham fan and proud of it.

As long as Barcelona still exists, Man U wil always know that it wil b difficult 2 get that Champions League title. Barca is the best of all. And I dont think Eto'o wil leave Barca for Man City.....

Can MONEY buy La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, But Oh My God not the EPL??? A lot of pots and no kettles in this conservation...where did 'Ski get their titles, The Boy Scouts??? Man United spends no money obviously and Arse and 'Pool are paupers...get a grip...

By mulligan.. Posted June 28 2009 at 7:28 PM.

Only 1/2 hr. of match. US 2 - Brazil 0.

Methink United should sign Davies, Altidore & Donavon. Doen't that reminds you Park, Rooney and CR breakaway goal recently.

If not some EPL teams should. US players stock has gone up.

By soccerinteg.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:06 PM.

Why is everybody against United?
1. Is it because we sold CR for a Stupendous amount of Euros? So that RM can challenge Barca in the new season?

2. Why is Tevez going to City? Is it because of Fergie 'beyond the pale' deportment, trying to inveigle or stiffed Tevez's agent?

3 Why is Fergie having difficulty signing Benz, other than bad faith dealing with TMI -reason 2 , and Arsenal trying to derail the transfer.

4. Is United a victim of other teams ganging up? Does anybody want to sign up with the greatest team on earth, best manager?

5. Why is Etoo signing up with City? Bogging United down in the domestic season so that United CL season will not be easy? Tit for tat by Barca?

6. Methink that City signing 4 great players (Etoo, Tevez, Barry, & RSC) for less money than one kaka. Methink this new owner is one shrewd bizness man.

7. United will have to spend half the money just to get one Aguero?

By soccerinteg.. Posted June 28 2009 at 6:04 PM.

I think that eto'o will stay in FCB.
He wont go away to another league, so he will go to Real madrid or mallorca

By Victor.. Posted June 28 2009 at 6:52 PM.

Am argentinien from Buenos Aires, supporter of River Plate, as I love footbal of all over the world, I also follow the premier, am glad to see that the City wants to be a great club of England and I understand it because the United has "robbed" all the titles last years. Funs of the city fight for having good players in the team like Eto and Tevez and Robinho...but...there must be also an atmosphere and mystic feelings to get tittles, good luck with all these players I´ll be watching you.

My 3rd post but know i want to really say something! Buy who you want Man City & Real Madrid 50 million, 80 million what ever... you can buy the so called best players in the world but you will never buy the best team! Why? because you can't buy Alex Ferguson! without a manger like him you will always be 2nd best! i know we lost the champions league last session but any great team can have bad day! & we had ours! Utd will sign Valencia & Benzema and take back back the champions League in 2010.

By Mark Edmunds.. Posted June 28 2009 at 4:18 PM.

I would like to know more about City's Lawyers and other advisers. They are negotiating poorly on behalf of their employer and flushing money down the drain because its there to be flushed. How can anyone agree to sign Etoo for 180k a week after tax for 5 years. He is 28 years old and almost past his peak, what a pack of dummies. I do not see him having more than 1 great season at City, he will be a flop the rest of the time and how are they ever going to get rid of him with that kind of contract, time will tell for sure.

By Ebun Awosika.. Posted June 28 2009 at 3:34 PM.

Why can't city reach the top 4? They certainly have the money and, so far, Hughes' signings are ones which are of top 4 quality- Barry chased by liverpool, santa cruz one of best strikers in the air. Hughes will command the respect of all british players he signs and for those who think he wont handle eto barca manager did alryt job 4 forst year in management.

I was a Manu fan due to C'Ronaldo & Tevez. Ronaldo and tevez left and me also. Where now I am a fan of Real Madrid in spain and in Uk for Man city.

I would like to see the progress of macc in every match. Pls don't plan the championship. Just plan to win the each match which is in front in the day/ tomorrow/day after tomorrow. Pls don't plan to win the match in the next week / in the next month. Also don't plan to win against ManU/ Liverpool/ Chealsea. But plan to win over rest of the teams. If you go ahead this way then your table total will be good and point table will be execellent. This way you can see you already have defeated Manu/Liverpool/Chealsea. At the beginning if you plan to defeat first 3 teams it will be extra pressure on the players and can be injured many of them which can give hassles in the next match with a weak team. So I want to see Mancity is calculating all the matters.

I also would like to request Mancity management if you can bring a reliable /sincere / dependable midfilder like Argentine Riquelme that would be very best for the team. Then you can give a big challenge to every top teams. See, due to this Argentine absence Argentina could not win last couple of matches to get ticket of South Africa World cup. Think how much he is powerful. I think Riquelme's effort can give vital blower to win a match. He will be not so costy but if you offer he will be very encouraged. Let's try.

Wish and pray Mancity as champion.

By Nazmul Hasan Atique.. Posted June 28 2009 at 3:19 PM.

tevez is making a bad choice on going to city, he should go to the bridge where he will get first team football with drogba n anelk. City have just focused on the forward line not there defence so they wont break into the top 4 at all!!, you need all the quality in a side to last a season thats why chelsea liverpool man u and arsenal are quality sides.

BRING RIBERY TO THE CFC

By dale.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:57 PM.

Why Tevez???? West Ham to Man Utd! greatest club in the last 20 years! (good move) Man city, nothing in 50 years! (dummest move in world football) you had the world @ your feet! and with Ronaldo gone, it was your time to step up to the plate! 2009-2010 You could have been Man utd player of the year! an award held by some of the greatest players who ever lived! we loved you but why????

By Elle McClintock.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:55 PM.

what wont big money do?robinho, tevez, etoo, etc.money can get u big names, but it may not win games .what does is sound strategy which sadly is not in place at city.make your m oney guys.forget about the laurels.isn't that the idea anyway?

Eto & Roque Santa Cruz well done Tevez hope the City's bench is as comfy as Utds

By ste.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:33 PM.

If Tevez goes to city? is it because he didn't get much match time @ utd? if yes i think he will not find what he wants @ city! they already have a great forward line and with the signing of santa cruz and maybe Eto, could he see the same fate??? I think most players all over the world are now chasing the big dollars but will that make them happy? I think players need to take a leaf out of giggs' book! he may not be the richest player in the world but in 100 years from now he will still be talked about for over 800 games @ one club! thank you for someone who doesnt just care about the money!

By Mark Edmunds.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:19 PM.

This is really getting out of hand it seems to me that Manchester City are treating this like the Dream Team pick a player and offer a ridiculous amount of money and hey presto job done. I agree with the previous post that anyone can do the job that Mark Hughes is doing, with a bottomless pot of money I could do the job. And after all this Manchester City will still win nothing next season we have seen time and time again you cannot buy success.

By Stephen .. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:00 PM.

By Uncle Lee.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:11 PM.

Surely city buying all these players helps the premiership compete with La Liga as the best league in the world.

Even as spurs fan, i think it would be good for the prem if Eto'o comes and anybody else who joins him.

By Sam.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:41 PM.

the onily prem side not to buy the leauge was arsenal.it's ok city buying these strikers they need more in defence

By james wibberley.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:34 PM.

This city thing is getting out of controll, i honestly think that you could give any manager in any division the kind of money that Hughes is spending and they would do just as good a job, if not better. He is not managing a football club, he is just buying every player that shows an interest in earning more money. As for Tev i thought he would stay at utd if he was the highest earner, well he won't be at city, i pity the club if they get off to a bad start, every team they play will raise their game. Good luck to mid table city.Graham Everton fan

By Graham Hirst.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:14 PM.

Tevez , bench here you come with all that strick force City now have Eto'o Santa Cruz, Barry Ireland Bellamy Robinho. etc , Man city still be fighting for top place because they have no defense, Tevez silly you should have stayed at the other end. somebody will sit on the bench. YOU?

if city like let them buy the best players in the world, i dont think city are matured enough to get to the top 4 in the premeir league with the type of coach they are having and money been waisted on players who are almost depreciating in values but are after the cash and possible getting to the peak of their career

By william.. Posted June 28 2009 at 11:03 AM.

Not a bad list of potential summer signings, cant see where ars chels liverp and man u fit in to the top 4. % dont go into 4 stand aside one of you big time charlies the blue moon is definetly about to rise. Three years ago we had Dickov on our recruitment list whilst the top 4 were pouring millions on the worlds top players so dont moan guys that the boot is on the other foot.

I am a United fan, but admit the future is City. Look at all the debt United have mounting. We will have to rebuild again without two great players.

By jon.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:50 AM.

The fact that so many people are commenting on City says to me that they are genuine contenders for a top four spot and certain people are worried. So they have to try and make a joke out of it. Building a world class side from scratch is never easy but each year the players we attract are better and better. Just look where we were three years ago with genuine journey men in there 30's. The top 4 will be looking over their shoulders this coming campaign.

By Mark.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:48 AM.

If the rumour is right about Eto´o and tevez joining Manchester city,it will definately send a warning note to the league. But pressure will flatten them out as all defenders will tight up against city.

Just hope you don't go and have a bad start of the season, because the pressure will sure be on!

So any gossip regarding defenders? And what had happened to Micah Richards? Fallen out of favour at eastlands?

By Scott.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:13 AM.

To all city fans that r convinced they are gonna b the biggest club in the world, i have some bad news for u, it aint gonna happen, not in ur life time neway!!!
look at chelsea, they thought the exact same thing, and all they got 2 show 4 it is a couple of PL titles and some domestic cups, not exactly biggest club in the world!!! and they brought better players than city are buying, i mean how can u expect 2 be the biggest club wen u buy average players like bellamy? and barry, although gd, isnt kaka is he? and santa cruz isnt david villa, tevez isnt torres and eto isnt messi!!!
if u want to be the biggest club in the world u will b waiting at least 15 years, cos u ave to wait til u ave won the most CL trophies, so thats at least 10 years, if u won it every year!!
and u ave to wait until it is the dream of the best players in the world like ronaldo to play for u because u are a gr8 club wiv a gr8 history and not just for the money!!!!!
i think city fans are goin to be in for a shock when they start attracting all the old mercernaries who just want a final big pay day to round off their career after playin for real, or ac or liverpool or man u!!
and how does it feel to be the biggest mugs in football wen u pay eto 180k a week!!!!!!
o and haughton the blue, that team u listed ISNT a title winnin team!!!
not with average players like bridge!!!
how many of those players come into the top 10 or top 5 players in the world??? none!!!

By Steve.. Posted June 28 2009 at 9:52 AM.

Ok, I am a west ham fan, and some of the comments on here our completely ridiculous!

I am reading alot jealousy from fans especially from the top 4. I actually think fans like myself that our not fans of clubs in the top 4, actually find what city are trying to do as intriging(sorry for spelling).

Alot of the top 4 fans must have memories of a fish, all have been massive spenders with the exception being arsenal! Hopefully citeh finish top this year, will shut the scummy red mancs up!

i think you will find that Eto isnt as good as hes made out, and will defo get found out in the prem. I would score plenty of goals at barca with messi and henry to the side of me and xavi and iniesta behind me. You heard it here first he is WAY overrated.

By greavesy.. Posted June 28 2009 at 9:24 AM.

In all fairness Theo Yuyun i think a lot of people still don't quite understand. We can afford to buy 50 tevez's plus 50 Eto'o's and 50 Maicons to boot. City WILL be the biggest club in the world guarenteed. A lot of people simply don't wish to believe this because there club are stuck going nowhere or are already a big club and simply are afraid that they will be pushed aside. And so they should be. I don't expect many to agree with me. But by disagreing you're simply proving my point. You all know the truth yet cannot accept it.

By Blake.. Posted June 28 2009 at 9:16 AM.

If all this is true then Tevez will continue to be the same complaining lad he was at ManU coz he cannot beat competition with the strikers being mentioned.if City have already landed Eto'o, they should keep the money you want to buy tevez and buy Maicon.they can make a decent team but i wonder if Hughes will have a real grip on the team if Robinho alone could be a handful for him, what will happen if Eto'o arrives.I still beleive city need a "big" manager.Tempt Guus Hiddink after the world cup and you could make the break into the top4

By Theo Yuyun.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:51 AM.

Just how many attackers do we need? We need to have the midfield to supply them (Hughes thinking of letting Elano go? - duh!) and we need to make sure we can defend adequately. That should mean we should keep Dunnie and not stick Nedum back on the bench. Lescott would be a reasonable buy not sure about Toure - didn't do it for Arsenal last year. The purchase of Gareth Barry is an excellent one. Tevez would be an excellent signing - a better version of Bellamy. A new left back would be handy. Heavens knows why Hughes has brought in Taylor - presumably Schmeichal is going to leave. We won't be relegated - top 4? Well let's see. Top 6 definitely achievable - just watch Robbie this coming season. Along with Tevez and Ireland we'll have pace and will be a joy to watch. I'll believe Eto'o will be at City when I see him wearing the famous Sky Blue. Sadly, all this cash will make all other fans detest us - ah well, the cost of success (to come).

Eto, Cruz, Bellamy, Robinho, Tevez... thats some strike force but I thought Tevez wanted regular games.... silly boy. Should of stayed at united and become a legend but he's a nobody now.

No one bats an eye lid when Madrid spend mega bucks on superstars but when city do it we are "Ruining the game"??? City are the future. World Class Players don't join City simply for the money. We can offer something totaly unique. A club who has not yet wrote its lagacey unlike Utd, Barca, Madrid etc. Players join city to become legends at a new giant of football. Eto'o, Tevez, Santa Cruz, Ireland, SWP, Barry. Top 4 next season for sure.

im a red but id like 2 see city challenging they have it all the ground fans and now the money but a cap needs 2 be put on wages it has gone out of touch with reality what about the rest of us all in recession will they lower ticket prices?

Life is like a box of chocolates !!!!
and at CITY it will get sweeter and sweeter year on year........Top 4 to push out Arsenal or Man U..

By Steve.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:06 AM.

I like Hughes he is a good honest man and if he can get the players focused on becoming a team the they may well win the Epl in next few years. Sadly for City I doubt whether he has enough experience at this stage to command the respect of players who have been managed by great managers and will question his tactics the moment it goes wrong. Could be some rich pickings at the City car boot sale of surplus flops.
Their best player is Stephen Ireland and he should be captain. At least the fans in Manchester will have a big club of their own instead of having to watch all the tourist fans of Utd gloating.

If Eto leaves, I would miss him, but if we can get Villa and Zhirkov, I would be over the moon. Good luck to city. But how many attackers does a team need?
Eto, Cruz, Bellamy, Robinho, Tev,

kevbin... "try and tell me that is not going to callenge (challenge) for a top 2 spot next season". Hahaha, please! It wouldn't surprise me if you lot struggled for a Europa League place next season. If the rumours of such big signings are true and you land the likes of Eto'o on '£180k a week' there will be nothing but unrest and disharmony within City's squad next season.

I thought Tevez wanted more first team footy, with Eto and co he is going to be warming that bench again. Mind you if all he wants is money go to Eastlands and jion the rest of the over paid 'stars' - good luck City you are going to need it to get top 4.

By damian.. Posted June 28 2009 at 3:41 AM.

joe re city will be relegated, get real you muppet bet you follow man u ,You better get used to Citys ambition your sad lot at owd trafford are going downhill FAST

By andy head.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:09 AM.

You wont get a fat paycheck at arsenal gotta sell your best players to pay off your stadium debt. smacks of sour grapes

By anton.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:37 AM.

Eto'o and his people think City could be going places and is excited by the type of players they are attracting..."

Craig Bellamy, Gareth Barry, & Santa Cruz...you're having a laugh! Just say you're after a last fat pay cheque and we will believe you.

By Arsenal411.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:22 AM.

its no coincidence that the top four clubs in the league are the most wealthy is it. always been the same. right back to when united paid more money for city pro players and got banned from the league for doing so.
bring on eto bring on tevez bring on utd

By antony.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:04 AM.

Hughes will be sacked by christmas and City will be lucky to avoid relegation. They are getting more annoying that Newcastle United.

By joe.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:58 AM.

Man city will still be fighting relegation. No matter who they sign.

By Joe.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:31 AM.

'A source said: "The player could have earned similar money at Barca. But Eto'o and his people think City could be going places and is excited by the type of players they are attracting." '

I really hope (for your own sanity) that is tongue in cheek.

By roger.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:43 AM.

Cant believe for one second Etoo AND Tevez will sign. I think Tevez will but Etoo is a long shot considering the number of strikers already in place and the fact City will probably play 4-3-3 with De Jong, Barry and Ireland in centre and Robinho, Bellamy/Tevez and Santa Cruz up front. Wont believe the Etoo rumour. If he does leave Barca it would be to Chelsea or AC Milan

Of course money can buy thr premership - look at the United they have outspent every English club for 30 years
