THE father of David Beckham reveals how he became reuni-Ted with his superstar son.
Speaking for the first time since a heart attack almost killed him, Ted Beckham reckons that the Goldenbrawls are now finally over.
And the chuffed granddad of the most famous kids in the world also told of football legend David's longing for a baby girl to join his three sons-Romeo, five, Cruz, three, and Brooklyn, nine.
Speaking of his close bond with the family-and even Victoria-Ted beamed: "I can ring David any time. We've now got a good father/son relationship and I'm very proud of him."
Sour
But the pair weren't always playing happy families. Their relationship turned sour back in 2001 when Ted split with David's mum Sandra-and Becks blamed him for it.
Then the bitter feud intensified when Ted wrote a book which included deeply personal revelations about David's youth and private chats he had about quitting football after the strain of Euro 2000.
But last year all that was forgotten when Ted, 59, suffered a heart attack. He actually DIED in the ambulance on the way to hospital and needed emergency surgery.
David rushed from LA to be by his father's side, a move which kick-started the recovery of Ted's other heartache-the friendship with his boy.
"We've had our ups and downs," sighs Ted. "But deep down, it's a very strong bond between me and David."
Ted, who has been asked by Becks, 32, to coach at his soccer schools in America and Dubai, went on: "People try to knock David-he's been kicked many times-but he's still up there.
"He's got three great boys and a wife who encourages him. People think he's a softie and he talks funny, but David has a very strong personality, and that's what I'm most proud of."
And Ted's also proud of the way his three grandkids handle stardom so well.
"They have such famous parents but take it in their stride. They also think Mummy is more famous than Daddy," he laughs. "I went to see Victoria in the Spice Girls tour. I'm not into their music but they were superb. Victoria was brilliant and it was nice to hear the crowd cheering her because she does go through a lot."
Strangely, Ted admitted to being in awe around Becks.
"Believe it or not, I do get star-struck by my own son. It's a weird feeling. You think, 'Oh it's my son', and then you think, 'He's a superstar!'"
Despite their rekindled friendship, Ted admits there's still one bone of contention between the two-David's body art.
He moans: "He said he'd never have any tattoos but unfortunately David just got carried away with them. I don't think he'll have any more, unless he has another baby."
And it seems that's exactly what Becks and Posh, 34, are planning on. Ted explains: "David really wants a girl. He's a great dad who has a lot of time with his boys and is brilliant with them."
Garden
He goes on to recall David as a footie-mad lad: "He ate, slept and drank football. No matter what time I'd come home from work, he'd say, 'Come down to the park, Dad' or 'Come and play in the garden'.
"I just responded as any good dad would. I helped him and pushed him into what he wanted to do."
And all that hard work paid off last month when Ted watched with a lump in his throat as his boy won his 100th cap.
Ted says: "I got quite choked up. There are not many players who have achieved that, so to see your son do it is amazing.
"It's just been the best adventure any dad could ever wish for and I hope it continues."
