Italian international Dossena has failed to deliver since his £7million summer move from Udinese, and several Serie A clubs have been alerted to his immediate availability.
Benitez would off-load the left-back in January for the right price, although the Merseysiders are sure to incur a loss due to his dreadful form.
Roma and Juve were battling with Liverpool for Dossena's signature at the end of last season and are considering re-igniting their interest.
Dossena remains highly-rated in his home country.
And his poor displays in England have been attributed to his inability to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.

As the number one liverpool fan and a nigerian who has been following the premirship for quite a very long time. I feel he should be given at least one more season to justify the amount that was spent on him.

on the dosena subject i hate him every time he has the ball he panics and either gives the ball away or miss passes. and what about lucas hes an embaresment to brasil again like dosena he panics on the ball and lacks the flair and determination. which if we be honest man u have in their midfield and attack. liverpool needs a midfielder like iniesta who can also create chances like gerrard does. liverpool have some players in the team who are not capble of playing at the level that the premier league requires... meaby am wrong but thats my oppinion im sik and tierd of watching us let the title slip from our hands.. wot do u think ?

To those who say 'give Dossena a chance'. If he was showing any signs of quality (pace, passing, heading, TACKLING etc) then fair enough give him till the end of the season to setlle in, but he isnt showing anything in the way of basic ability. He looks like he's running in treacle half the time and when he's chasing back after a player, there's only one outcome a lunge from 10 yards away and a resulting free kick. The guy is a liability, he makes aurelio look like a superstar.

Yes, LFC have true problems at both full-back positions. Degen... well, sometimes you get what you pay for! Dossena?? That raised my eyebrows when he came in. As a rule, it's not very often a player who is a success in SerieA is a success in the Prem. Bergy & Henry were dreadful flops in Italy but legends here... because the two leagues are SO different. On Riise, yes, we Reds will always remember him well (the many screamers, the wonder goal vs Utd... for a few years, around 2001-2004 I'd have said we was the best left back in the prem. but the last few years he had totally lost it, it's best to move on, not backwards... my choice (given that a £40m raid for Ramos of Real looks unlikely) would be Nadir Belhadj of Lyon, currently on loan at Pompy, reports suggest £3.5m-£4m even Gillette & Hicks should be able to manage that!!! for the right hand side, I'd again suggest angering Pompy fans and test their finances with a bid for Glen Johnson. Good attacking RB as an alternative to the defensive Arbeloa. Though... I'd love to see Insua & particulary Darby given a go first!

rafa just sell him and dont buy any replacements..just bring insua to challenge aurelio for the left back position..rafa give your young players a chance to show what they can do..
By ieyan.. Posted November 18 2008 at 2:33 AM.
dont forget eric mier
By red.. Posted November 17 2008 at 3:17 PM.
you boys have short memories, dossena is a shocker as is degen, nunez, josemi, kromkamp, that dodgy keeper from last season(oh my god) etc, what annoys me is that Rafa gets rid of a player with 7 years prem experience, loyal lfc player Reisse to Roma and replaces him with a no mark usless Italian player with no prem experience.
Rafa has signed just like Houlier and souness some of the worst players I have ever seen in red. What worst he has wasted over 100 mil doing so.
By bobs.. Posted November 17 2008 at 9:05 AM.
In response to Glen saying " He's without doubt the worst player I've ever seen" did you see Degen playing against tottenham? No neither did I!! He wasn't there. The worst player ever in a Liverpool shirt! Degen closely followed by Dossena!!!!
By Antlfc.. Posted November 16 2008 at 5:54 PM.
totally agree must be 1 of the worst players to ever play in a red shirt it says he is wanted by juventus and roma well one problem to the solution would be to do a swap deal with roma and bring riise back yes he made a mistake with the own goal but one of the best players we have bought over the years bring JAR back home anyone agree?
By lfc4life.. Posted November 16 2008 at 4:47 PM.
Give the guy a chance, he's been in and out of the team since he got here and it must be hard being the only italian in the team.
By martin.. Posted November 16 2008 at 1:20 PM.
He is without a doubt the worst player i have ever seen! You normally allow a settling in period but you see nothing in Dossena to think he will ever improve. I cant believe Benitez saw him play before we signed him. Get rid in january!
By Glen.. Posted November 16 2008 at 12:51 PM.
The lad is just not good enough, getting rid of Risa now looks foolish.
By shadda.. Posted November 16 2008 at 12:41 PM.
i completely agree with shavnair. insua is better than dossena and deserves a chance at been a squad player at least. also, degen is injury prone and looks unconvincing when he does manage a game. rafinha would be a great signing as he likes to get forward and has pace to get back. arbeloa should stay though because he can play right or left back, plus centre back if needed and has been one of the best players this season so far. extend his contract!
By ste.. Posted November 16 2008 at 12:24 PM.
most new players struggle to settle into the EPL. The roblem with Dossena is that it is so hard to see any redeming features which you can pick out. He is well off the pace, lack technical ability, and has very poor feet. At least with Agger, you could tell he had talent, and we were able to give him that extra time. Look at his performance against Bolton, superb, even broke his tooth trying to stop a goal.
By mas patel.. Posted November 16 2008 at 12:11 PM.
This player has been crap since he came to us. I would not say he is the worst player ever dont forget nunez lol
By Matt.. Posted November 16 2008 at 11:14 AM.
The best left back soution for Liverpool is to switch Agger from the centre once Skrtel recovers from injury.
He's got a great left foot, would attack up the flanks, has pace and intelligence.
By David Brown.. Posted November 16 2008 at 11:02 AM.
looks like the Southern so called Red's fans are back out in fine form again..... give the lad some time...new country, new language, new game style. You can't turn it on immediately!
By Guy.. Posted November 16 2008 at 10:46 AM.
please rafa get rid , he's all left foot and can't kick with it.he's not a premier league player.he'snot even an ale house player.we all make mistakes!!
By gleo.. Posted November 16 2008 at 9:50 AM.
He is a disgrace. Oh I've lost patience in the man.
By Jon Thomas.. Posted November 16 2008 at 9:31 AM.
How i wish the transfer window will open tomorow. Rafa please get rid of him and accept he was a mistake. The biggest liverpool flop i have ever seen.insua can prove to be a good backup for Aurelio who has really improved
By Hammed sholabi.. Posted November 16 2008 at 7:44 AM.
"When you buy a foreign player you have to be patient. Look at Daniel Agger - for the first few months everyone was going 'hmm'. They were not talking really well about him. One year later and he's the best technical centre-back in the Premier League. We can talk about players in a few months after seeing how they progress - that's when we can talk about whether they are the right standard for us."
Rafa Benitez off of the LFC Offal.
By Lon.. Posted November 16 2008 at 6:05 AM.
get rid of him, and make a bid for tottenham's Bale
By Jim Boukis.. Posted November 16 2008 at 3:03 AM.
hope its true.. rafa can use Insua instead as backup at left back.... Aurelio has been steadily improving by each game since his injuries, Insua should be much better than Dossena all round based on his few performances last season... sell Degan also ..buy Rafinha.
By shavnair.. Posted November 16 2008 at 3:29 AM.
Another waste of money! Get as much as we can for him, get rid......
By Andy Humphrey.. Posted November 16 2008 at 2:33 AM.
Please let this be true!! I went to the liverpool v spurs game on weds and he did not do a single thing right for 89 mins. He is possibly the worst player i have ever seen play for Liverpool - he doesn't even show the right level of commitment. Carra must hate playing with him. If Rafa gets rid then we will lose out on his transfer value, but you would have to at least give him credit for publically owning up to his own mistake so quickly.
By Dave.. Posted November 16 2008 at 2:40 AM.
What a waste of money he really is
