MANCHESTER CITY are being linked with a sensational move for 34-year-old Juan Sebastian Veron.

Argentinian newspaper 'Hoy' claims contact has been made from City's hierarchy in a bid to bring the former Manchester United flop back to England.

Veron has regained his best form with Estudiantes, recently winning the South American Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season, and appears settled back in South America but a lucrative return to Manchester could turn his head if an offer materialises.

The playmaker failed to live up to his record £28.1 million price-tag at Old Trafford before being sold to Chelsea and a transfer to Eastlands would be a stunning development in his career.

City boss Roberto Mancini was a team-mate of Veron's at Sampdoria and manager of Inter Milan when they signed him on loan from Stamford Bridge back in 2004.

Although there is clearly a bond between the duo, any deal would rock the Premier League.

With Patrick Vieira, another veteran whose days in the English top flight looked in the past, believed to be on the verge of agreeing a short-term deal with the Carling Cup semi-finalists, it seems clear that Mancini is interested in experienced campaigners.

A £7million bid for Veron is being forwarded in the Argentinian media, which would be an extraordinary amount for a player of his age.
