Harry Redknapp eyes January swoop for winger after Sevilla put talks on hold

TOTTENHAM are set to renew their interest in Sevilla winger Diego Capel after the Spanish club refused to discuss a contract extension until the end of the season.

The north London club have been tracking the progress of the Spanish international for the past year.

Capel, 21, is regarded as one of the best wingers in La Liga and is desperate to show he can compete at the highest level.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is keen to strengthen his midfield area as they have struggled to find a replacement for the injured Luka Modric since he broke his leg back in August.

Sevilla were hoping to agree a new contract with Capel, but they have not been able to reach an agreement and Tottenham are hoping to cash in and land the talented winger in January.

Capel said: "During my time here I have matured and I really enjoy playing for this club. I have no problem with the contract talks as I prefer to live day to day."

I agree with alfe sowe...bring him to the Lane cos modric is very useful playing behind the two strike force

I agree with alfe that we should sell keane to celtic, i dont believe he's a striker that is going to helpa team into a top 4 finish. Goes hidding too often against the big teams and doesnt score against the big teams often enough! Capel has the ability to be a great player!

sell robbie to celtic then get capel to play at the left en bring modric to play behind the strikes so that we can creat chances with his killer passes.

No real need for him at spurs as he is a average player if everyone is fit he would struggle to get into the starting eleven ..modric & lennon are far superior players unless spurs are gonna sell one of these in the summer as man utd have been looking at modric from what i gather sadly !!!
