As we exclusively told you in last week's Sport of the World, Manchester United defender Ferdinand is out for up to eight weeks with a back problem.
He misses England's friendly against Brazil next week after former national boss Graham Taylor accused him of "losing his legs" and claimed he would never regain his best form.
But England captain Terry insisted: "Rio is a world-class player. We all have our blips but I'm sure he'll come out fighting fit and stronger.
"I went through a few injuries myself and I think he's gone through a similar spell himself."
There has also been criticism of Ferdinand's recent performances but Terry added: "Nobody can ever doubt Rio after what he has done at England level and for Man United, West Ham and Leeds.
"From an England point of view, when we need Rio, he will be there.
"I love playing alongside him and you can count on Rio."
