The defender, who recently signed a new deal, has acknowledged it's inconceivable for the Merseyside giants not be in next year's Champions League.
After returning from injury, the Denmark international is determined to play his part in turning around the team's fortunes as he does not want to keep hearing about the sick list at Anfield.
"I know everyone here wants to play for Liverpool Football Club in every competition whether it's the League, Champions League or the Carling Cup," said Agger.
"It's a long term commitment, but right now we also have to think short-term too.
"We know how important it is for Liverpool to be in the Champions League and we won't give up on that. We still have a chance of qualifying through the group and must go for it.
"It's the same in the league. Every game is important. I can't even think about us not being in the competition.
"Birmingham is now the biggest game because it's the next game. We need to get some momentum."
Agger's return from a back injury has been one of the few pluses for under-siege manager Rafa Benitez in recent weeks.
The Dane was outstanding against Lyon, but admits he's not fully shrugged off the effects of his summer operation.
"It's been frustrating for me to have only just come back from injury," he said.
"You feel like you're playing catch-up all the time. It makes it difficult. I've played a lot of games in a short space of time. Sometimes you are desperate to play but your body is not used to it.
"But injuries can't be used as an excuse for our situation. We have a big enough squad."

Liverpool weak performance is not because of the sale of Alonso and Arbeola but our own making.
The inconsistence of the team selection is playing a vital roll here.
Callagher with all those experiences, is also letting the team down. He has contributed so many defeats.
He does not look like he acts as a CAPTAIN. Let us have a defence which is solid, a midfield intact and a strike force that brings the results.
Where is REIRA?
Our manager should also accept views from the people despite we are not coaches.
We follow the game and we feel the pain when we lose.
