GRIM - Chev Walker lies in agony and shock with his left leg shattered

Hull KR star's shinbone was jutting out of his sock

HARDENED players threw up at the sight of Chev Walker's horrific leg break in Hull KR's play-off defeat.

The former Great Britain star's leg snapped in a tackle with Keith Senior of Leeds and his left tibia could clearly be seen jutting out of his sock.

Senior said: "It was awful. Our legs got tangled and I could hear something crack. I saw what had happened and kept telling Chev 'Don't look.'

Shock

"I think he went into a bit of shock and I was waving for the medical staff to get on as quickly as they could.

"Someone was sick on the pitch after seeing it. I don't know who it was but it didn't surprise me because it wasn't nice to see. These things happen and they are part and parcel of the game but they are still not nice, especially when it's someone you know well."

The incident happened after just 11 minutes of Rovers' 44-8 hammering by Leeds.

The ex-Rhinos favourite underwent surgery on the compound fracture on Friday night.

Respect

Leeds coach Brian McClennan said: "Our thoughts are with him and our best wishes go out to him. It was good to hear the fans show their respect and sing for him."

Walker, 26, won the 2004 Grand Final with Leeds before switching codes to join Bath in 2006.

He returned to league two years later with Hull KR and has been dogged by injuries ever since.

Senior added: "He hasn't had much luck and all our thoughts and wishes go out to him for a speedy recovery."

Nasty

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan said: "He's had surgery straight and we can only be hopeful that they can get it fixed and get the leg back to normal.

"Obviously the bone popped through the skin so it looked fairly nasty. It was obviously disruptive. Hopefully we've got all our bad luck out of the way."

Rovers lost the tie 44-8 but have another chance next weekend to reach the semis.

Leeds go straight into a home semi final in two weeks time and next Sunday will have the right to select their opponents.
