FRANK MALONEY IN FURY AT TYSON VICTORY

Promoter wants board to step in over heavyweight title

FRANK MALONEY will ask boxing chiefs to overturn Tyson Fury's controversial English heavyweight title win over John McDermott.

Manchester gipsy Fury clinched a points victory against the defending champ in Brentwood on Friday.

Referee Terry O'Connor recorded the fight 98-92 but it was described as one of the worst decisions ever seen in a British ring.

McDermott, 29, looked a clear winner and promoter Maloney wants the British Boxing Board of Control to step in.

Legal

Maloney raged: "If the Board don't take action I will consider legal action and even lobby the Sports Minister.

"No wonder people who don't follow boxing ask me, 'Is boxing fixed?' It isn't but decisions like this will only turn people away from the sport.

"I have even had calls from Board officials embarrassed by what went on and I am asking them to change the result.

"John is distraught and considering retirement. I bet O'Connor is sitting at home in Birmingham looking forward to his next refereeing job."

CARL FROCH wants to emulate Joe Calzaghe in and out of the ring.

Calzaghe is starring in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

And Froch, who defends his WBC super- middleweight title against Andre Dirrell on October 17, said: "It is something I would consider when my career is over. I like dancing.

"I would never do Celebrity Big Brother or I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. There is a dignity taken away with certain tasks.

"You wouldn't get me eating donkey or kangaroo testicles."

Prizefighter Heavyweights III takes place on Friday, October 2 at the ExCeL in London. Tickets cost £40 and £80 and are available from See Tickets on 0871 220 0260, www.seetickets.com or from Matchroom Sport on 01277 359 900.

I sat in total disbelief when the 'referee' (who should get his eyesight tested) raised Fury's arm. It was nothing should of disgusting. I am amazed McDermott was able to restrain himself. The man is CLASS.

A decision not to distant from the Cooper v Bugner fight all those years ago , and this was as one sided... Mc Dermott needs topick himself up work twice as hard and knock Fury out which he came close to doing on a number of times. The Boxing board need to review this carefully it was never a 98 - 92 well not on planet earth, but iv'e always said...judges for every fight...end of , and Iv'e been a boxing fan for 35 years

Having watched the fight on Friday night, it was clear to anyone that McDermott won the fight easily. Fury was totally out boxed and out classed.

The decision was a disgrace.
