Lescott has informed Goodison boss David Moyes in four separate meetings of his desire to talk to City boss Mark Hughes. But after successive bids were rejected by the Merseysiders, the England international now recognises the only way to seal a deal is to go public.
A formal written transfer request is already being prepared and is likely to be made this week. Everton dismissed a second bid worth £19m for the 26-year-old in midweek.
They are adamant they won't negotiate with City until Lescott goes public. Chairman Bill Kenwright is prepared to sit tight for as much as £30m for the defender.
But he knows a transfer request from Lescott will alter the landscape and force further negotiations with City. In those circumstances, a City bid of around £22m is likely to get Hughes his man.
Moyes will also make a £4m bid for Arsenal's Phillipe Senderos, although the Goodison boss insists the Gunners' defender is not a replacement for Lescott. He needs cover for long-term injury absentee Phil Jagielka.

I say to moyes...quit stalling, get yourself a good defenders..don't wait till the eve of the transfer period..
might else well get them now and gel them together.
no point of holding on if wants to leave...before you know the rest will be back from injuires..

teams need to gel.you cant stick 11 new players in a first team and expect them to do well.get your foundations then build around them.i think lescott would be a waste of money.overpriced and over rated.adebayor is a crybaby who will damage team morale, tevez is good business so is toure.players like dunne and richards need to leave as they have no future amongst the new richboys.everton should take the money and run for lescott and then laugh at him when he finishes the season outside the top six.obviously every fan would love to see his team throwing money around but theres a difference between throwing it around and throwing it away.if pulis was trying to bring lescott in for 20+mil id be dissapointed if we had already got players that are just as good.and id be more angry if we were buyin up all the strikers available.are they going field a 2-2-6 formation next season.do yourselves a favour arabs and sack hughes and give a proven manager your cash to blow.and its not all about money.why do you think nobody has been bidding for gerrard?because he proved his love for his boyhood team when chelsea came knockin.for adebayor, lescott etc it was all about money money money just like it was for ballack, shevchenko, deco at chelsea.and look how good they have been in the prem

I think Lescott is a great player but if he goes to Manchester City then he isn't going to win silver wear he is going for the money.
If it wasn't for David Moyes, Lescott wouldn't be a great player. If he wouldn't of gone to Everton then he could of gone to a team like Bolton or Sunderland and trust me Everton are a much bigger club then them and if he goes to man city he aint going to be the player that all the Everton fans no he can be , One of the best center half's in the country or even in the world and the Man City team might look good but they wont finish above Everton because the player's like Tevez and Adebyor will not play well together.
This is to City fans why get all those good players and have a manager who use to manage blackburn and a manager who cant spend his money in a decent way i mean he has brought 3 strikers what for hes already got two that is a really bad way to spend his money .

City's strategy of taking star names from their closest rivals is spot- on,UTD,villa, everton, arsenal, thanks.Everton are a sad club ,with a delapidated stadium,no fans[that actually go,compare your gates with little City's,]you have a glorious past, but no prospects. You have a provincial ,small minded manager, who moans about little City's brass, but fails to mention our 18 mill.brazillian goal machine we lent you out of sympathy and respect.Enjoy your mid-table mediocrity.

Mr Tyrrell. After Reading god knows how many comments on different sites it's refreshing to read an adult response to the situation. These comment pages seem to be the breeding ground for playground arguement and ultimately name-calling. I applaud your comment.
We (City) are in a fortunate position now that we are able to enquire and bid for the players our manager sees as suitable for our team. As for players playing out of love for their club... That is (sadly) a thing of the past. There may be a handful out there but most will merely play for the love of football and go where they can do that AND earn good money for it. How many of you go to work for your love of your company? I reckon most of us enjoy our job and go where we can get the best deal.
Yes, we can and are buying whoever we like but as a City fan what I'm most happy about is that the investment goes beyond our first team. Our owners are also ploughing money into the Club as a worldwide brand, the infrastructure and ultimately the local community. Many of the things happening at our club are being done with the fans in mind and that can only help in building our club for the future.
Long may it continue. City Till I Die.
By Stoo Kay.. Posted August 2 2009 at 9:51 PM.
I am sure that most supporters, whether Everton, Spurs, even United, or Liverpool, or Notts County, & go right through the league, would love to have big investors, (ask Bill Kenwright) who is desperate,
and would any club do things any different, (Rooney to united, SWP to Chelsea, Sol Campbell
to Arsenal, So all this calling of MCFC is sour grapes because if the shoe was on the other foot?

Joleon Lescott is a great player and it will be sad to see him go.but, if his heart isnt in our club , so be i

If city struggle with that gang of mercenaries and another "rich" club dangles the carrot, what do u think every one of them will do?
I actually like city, and thought, wrongly, theire fans had a bit more common sense , YOU HAVENT WON ANYTHING, shout your mouths off if that very unlikely event happens
Thanks Joleon

I have supported Everton since Matthews played for Stoke and came to Goodison to embarrass the Everton defence. Those were the good old days when loyalty still meant something to the players. Sadly - no more. Lescott has served Everton well, so we can't blame him if he goes to a higher paying job - good luck to him. When Everton bring in a replacement all will be well - Everton will survive - and continue to earn the respect of football fans. Being rich is OK, but being respected is better than being rich. Let the long-suffering Man City fans enjoy themselves as we would if the big money came to Goodison. Imagine what Moyes could do with 150 Million pounds to spend.

If Lescott wants to go, sell him. Moyes is the best manager in the prem and whoever he brings in to replace him will have the hunger and desire to win for Everton. All the money in the world won't make Hughes a decent manager this season. They are just another Chelsea, none of players are there out of love for the club, they're there for the money.
By Clair.. Posted August 2 2009 at 6:44 PM.
if the hungry green eyed monster wants to jump ship we should try and get as much as we can out of city for him. i never rated him as much as other evertonians i know anyway, but if no player wants to play for the blues, the club who took a chance on him from the championship and no doubt made him the england international he is then good riddance, good luck lescott youll need it. come on moyes its getting desperate again, we need at least 5 new QUALITY players at least if we are to improve on last season. Oh Slippy,P LEASE. Your team cannot even buy our leftover strikers (Jo),let alone pay his wages. Also, you punched well way above your weight last season.
If Hughesy is so underhand, why he didn't he make the Jo loan conditional on Lescott signing? Also,it was Everton that released the fact that we'd put in an offer for him,not us.What was Hughes supposed to do about press questions about it then?

to everyone who is slagging Man City off must of lost there memory ! Man U have been doing this for 20 years and recently a few names and big sums come to mind ! Rooney 30m, Ferdinand 30m (7 years ago !), Berbatov 32m, Veron 28m, Hargreaves 18m, Ronaldo 12m, Nistelrooy 24m.... and this is only some of the more well known names !, thats 174million and United were the club to start paying silly wages by making Roy Keane the first 50grand a week player. Now I won't even bore you with the 300m that Abramavich has paid for players and there 150k a week salaries. SO PLEASE SPARE ME ITS BAD MAN CITY AND BAD TACTICS, UNITED AND CHELSEA RUINED CITY ARE JUST JOINING THE RANKS.
By Stephen Huish.. Posted August 2 2009 at 4:20 PM.
Whats wrong with city buying lescott and everyone else ? they are doing exactly what chelksi did fw years back when they went around buying all those players from abrahmovich..good luck to them.
every player is different on the money issue, obviously not as important for Kaka and John Terry but imagine if you were offered to do the same job for four times as much money, im sure you would be interested in talking not matter how long you have been with your employer.
also, some players want to play regularly if they are always on the bench for man utd or real so with the world cup next year, i dont blame tevez for switching, i think it was a mxture of money an playing every week..
good luck to city and to joleen if he wants to take a job for £100 k a week instead of the 20k he is maybe on at everton

To the Man City fan Paul Schofield who was saying about not paying over the odds...
Kolo Toure - 16million is way too much for someone who is losing their pace and inconsisten.
Carlos Tevez - 25million is roughly right i agree on that
Barry - 12million why buy these players when you can find gems in lower leagues like cahill for 2million
Roque Santa Cruz - 17million over priced by miles as he scored little goals last season and hasn't and wont be the same since his injury.
Emmanuel Adebayor - 25 million for a lazy donkey who plays when he wants to? you 7 million more for one of best young brazilians...doesn't add up does it?
Now lets look at the reason why they went...Barry for money (villa in europe) Tevez for money (cos Milan and other TOP clubs are interested) Adebayor for money (arsenal champions league) Santa Cruz for money (he isn't going to be first choice even but he doesnt care!)
We would only sell our club if it's right for the club but we have done better than you for the past 3 seasons with the wealth you've had!
By Bluesince2.. Posted August 2 2009 at 3:52 PM.
So,once again we've ruined football,eh? Think outside those tinted specs will you? Realistically,do you honestly think that without money teams could break into the Sky4? Has any small team been able to make a sustained challenge on these teams? NO.
By Bob the Baker.. Posted August 2 2009 at 3:29 PM.
lescott would mess up his career. the reason why himself
jags and baines are in and around the England squad is because of the coaching they recieve, hunger, and team ethic.. since the arrival of mark hughes, look how bad the form of dunne and richards has gone while wayne bridge is in a cash comfort zone. lescotts potential will be wasted, he should stay!!

Not sure were "slippy's" comment about playing for a decent team to stay in the England team. Decent 5th place finish last year and a FA Cup Final. It's easy to go back and forth over loyalty, money, etc. but the premier league has become a money league only. I would expect a certain loyalty from a player who was given a chance by the team but if he wants to go, so be it. Not worth 15 million, but if they want to pay 22, let him go if he wants. The comment about Rooney the boyhood blue is spot on. I'm starting to sound like my dad from years ago when he said money was spoiling the game. That was in the 70's!! I'll support Everton in good times and bad, that's all I can do.
By Scouserblue62.. Posted August 2 2009 at 2:34 PM.
Slippy, who exactly do you support? Your second comment suggests you are an Evertonian.. yet in your first comment you said 'Small clubs cannot provide the necessary skills, primarily Everton are a fodder selling club.'
that sounds suspiciously like a Rafa Benitez comment!! You sure aren't a true Toffee!
By Bert.. Posted August 2 2009 at 2:33 PM.
People saying Everton are not a big club know nothing, the have built a strong side and can challenge for a champions league spot. Lescott leaving will be good business but will acheive nothing with man city, thats even if they play him! City bought names last season but failed to impress, they will play boring football like they always do. City have bought players who failed to be stars at their own club (tevez and adebayor who cannot convert) who is saying that they will step up their game this season. 22m c'mon, we can buy reyes and a class defender!

Paid over the odds for players i dont think so BARRY-12 MILLION- Cheap
Tevez - 25 mil that is very much worth it
Toure - 16 mil Defo worth it
so dont come on here sayin with have paid over prices for players.. you would all be diffrent if it was ur club but obv its not and your all bitter coz city are going to do better then most teams this season
If lescott wants to come then great if not get someone like Mexes.

typical of a manchester club.as always everyone thinks the northwest is manchester.i really believe that now the club should have to buy the ground that they use courtesy of manchester council and all tax payers in this county who subsidised the building of the present ground for the commonwealth games. as i feel that the manchester city football club are merely squatters.if joleon wants to really go to a club of chancers then so be it and thanks for the last three years.in moyes we trust.

Funny Lescott has been handing in a transfare request for the past three weeks!!
But he is still an Everton player. Only the press think he is on his way out, if he stays great if he goes yet again the middle east money wins. As a life long Blue and lover of all football i am slowly drifting away from it as the grass roots game has totally disappears and the money men from the middle east play around with what was once our beautiful game....
By Royal Blue.. Posted August 2 2009 at 11:57 AM.
Almost every player city has signed in this window has been poached from another team and the bate is money... all the players had cost over the odds to get them and the bate has been we will pay you double.. they have got some good players, but they haven't any great ones. one thing i give chelsea they were in the top four before they got cash and had already built a team with firm foundations. they had a few flops with veron, shev, mutu etc. but they had a team strong enough to over come their flops. same with utd, they have paid loads for players over the year, but most of the time they have bought very classy players for their money. city are just going for who ever they can get. the amount of money they have spent and the team they have got doesn't justify what they paid out for it.. BTW i am a Q.P.R. fan...
By stan.. Posted August 2 2009 at 11:51 AM.
To Tom...
Man United for a start...Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Nevilles cost nothing. Cantona, Bruce, Sharpe and Schmeichel cost £2.5m between them. Not too sure about Irwin, Hughes, McClair and May etc. Not exactly smashing transfer records are they? Or paying stupid money for Roque Santa Claus or Emmanuel Ade-Akinbiyi?
And no, I'm not a United fan.
By slippy.. Posted August 2 2009 at 11:07 AM.

As a Man City blue of some 40 years or so I have to agree OGD. As much as it pains me to say it quite a number of our fans have allowed the money to go to their heads. But why not. In all fairness I think that after us being crap for decades and being the butt of a million jokes for longer than I care to remember, we should be allowed our day in the sun for a while.
It's OK for everyone to slate us for years so long as we take and say nowt back. The papers still give it to us every day. Yesterday Chelsea were the comeback kings at lowly Reading. We had an equally poor result in a FRIENDLY and equalised in the last minute of a 90 minute game (so it was legal) and we get pasted for it.
You don't think that this transfer window will be replicated every year do you. Get real.
By Brisbane Blue.. Posted August 2 2009 at 10:43 AM.
The money that City are offering is ridiculous and Everton could do with some good funds. But, you don't mess with a good defence. After all, our defence is one of the reasons we've done so well over the last few years!

I can't see how Everton lose either way-so long as it's settled. If Lescott stays we've got one of the best defenders in the country, if he goes we've got 20mil. and as someone says, that buys us a new right side of the team-which we need. Just so long as we can get a replacement-be it Senderos (is he anywhere near as good?), Upson or some guy from the championship I've never heard of, but will turn out to be a Moyes' gem.

Anyone get the feeling that this deal was done weeks ago when Jo came over? Could all the talk be about keeping the fans onside and forcing Les to ask to talk to City, thus negating his loyalty fee? That way the Club shrugs its collective shoulders, takes £22mil (gives £2mil to Wolves) and says, not our fault guys, he made us do it!

Given good service to Everton and never cost a lot when he was bought. Good luck to him and thanks for the efforts. In the end, I think it is only fair that the player has to come out and say he wants to leave for another club - and sacrifice a payment from his club, of course. Everton will now have to sign 2 centre backs, to a high standard (no Jagielka0 and give Wolves a £2 million drink, so it's not surprising they wanted a high fee. Let's hope it actually happens, and City can get organized at the back - finally.
