The Holland international, 25, is among Spurs' main transfer targets this summer. And they are prepared to break through their wage structure to bring him to White Hart Lane.
A fee of around £18million was agreed in principle with Real Madrid, shortly before Redknapp travelled to Holland 10 days ago for talks with the player's representatives. And the Spurs boss will return this week with a package that could be worth more than £90,000 a week depending on appearances and goals.
Huntelaar earns £55,000 a week at the Bernabeu after tax but his wage deal would dwarf Ledley King's £75,000-a-week contract.

The Dutchman scored eight goals in 20 league games for Real last season but looks like being a casualty of the club's lavish spending programme. Spurs look to have beaten off competition from Stuttgart and are now confident they can persuade Huntelaar to test himself in the Premier League.
Arsenal also made an inquiry last season but have since cooled their interest.

Unlikely bagpuss will be flying out to Holland this week as he's on a plane to China... not the sort of place you nip back from for a cheeky takeaway

Please buy him before someone else does.
Why is this transfer happening in Matrix slow motion?
We are 2nd most profitable club in the league.
We are not in big debt like the top 3.
Our owner is a billionaire.
Just buy him please.
Can't believe we are fannying around after the cash we paid for Bent and Bentley who are not even near the quality.
Right I'm off on holiday! Please have him signed together with a centre half and left wing by the time i get back.

By John.. Posted July 26 2009 at 9:53 PM.
get rid of defoe = carthorse we will never go anywhere as long as spurs fans think he is the answer
By rebrov.. Posted July 26 2009 at 9:43 PM.
lets face it spuds will only get him if the arsenal don't want him,if the arsenal are serious then he's never goin to that lot.
By jim.. Posted July 26 2009 at 8:35 PM.
Just go back from the Spurs v Celtic game and the sooner Bent goes the better. Any striker who can stand up and kick the ball in the general direction of the goal would be better. Huntelaar would be a brilliant buy.
We do however badly need defenders, the defensive show today was pathetic. Dervite is not up to it by a long way and Chimbonda is worse at central defense than he is at full back. Corluka is a decent stand in but again wont stand up to that position in the PL.

SPUR'S WHO -
SPUR's r GOING DOWN
WHY WOULD HUNTELAAR GO 2 SPUR'S WHEN
HE CAN GO 2 THE BEST TEAM IN THE P-L ARSENAL.
COME ON U GOONERS COME ON U GOONERS

I saw Spurs vs Celtic earlier today, and I must say that they have a pretty moderate side.I can't see them finishing in the top 4 of the PL,even with Huntelaar.

I never seem to understand Spurs' transfer dealings. They always seem to buy players in positions where they already have an abundance.
By Solo Solomon.. Posted July 26 2009 at 5:37 PM.
Great player... Arsene Wenger should hijack this deal, he knows Huntelaar is a great player. Him and Van Persie would rip the Premiership apart and thats a FACT!
By Super Nicklas Bendtner.. Posted July 26 2009 at 5:49 PM.
crouch and huntelaar would be good....crouch instead of huntelaar would be harry havin a bubble...

Bring him in I say, he's quality, far superior to Kuyt and Alves, we paid big transfer fees under comoli and got rubbish, pay huntelaar some decent wages. Only Modric could command that sort of salary at Spurs, the rest know their limits( well maybe Lenon in time might make it).
I like Pav, have concerns about Keane, and although the fans love Defoe, is he that good, id say hes a long way down the pecking squad in the England reckoning, and still has something to prove.
But thats not the only problem position at Spurs, and our transfers and getting players in & out are taking far too long as usual.

Huntelaar lacks technique and is slow too.I know that, because I"m an Ajax supporter. So the club made a very good deal with Madrid in my opinion, and received 27 Million Euro's.
By Jutter.. Posted July 26 2009 at 3:18 PM.
i hope this is true and he looks like a good young striker and will team up well with defoe crouch keane
lets hope harry can work his magic
COME ON YOU SPURS....................
By cheekyd.. Posted July 26 2009 at 3:16 PM.
i think Huntelaar and Keane up front will be an awsom partnership but why sight Crouch for 10 million when Ruud van Nistelrooy is an option for 1.5 million hes a proven goal scorer in the premier league
By Rob.. Posted July 26 2009 at 2:12 PM.
I think this is unture, im a Spurs fan and Huntelaar is one of my fav players ever but it lookks like we're getting a donkey in the shape of Peter Crouch instead of this Goal Machine
By gary.. Posted July 26 2009 at 12:46 PM.
Id love to have Huntelaar at spurs but on the other hand our refusal to pay ridiculous wages to people who kick a ball around is something I have always been proud of. Money wise we can afford it (one of the lowest club debts in the league and increasing profit every year) however the issue is that once we pay Huntelaar 90k how long will it be before Ledly, Keane, Woodgate etc begin to demand similar wages?
By Dave.. Posted July 26 2009 at 10:42 AM.
Hes a top name, not a top player. He needs a full season in a competitive league to prove worth. Kuyt scored goals for fun in Dutch league as did Alves........and they're no top european strikers by a long shot. Let Spurs have him and if hes any good Fergie will step in and grab him and if Berba is no good can have him back in exchange.Utd to shove a few peoples daft words down their throats!! Enjoy fight for nowhere, wont get there with this guy though
By Rich.. Posted July 26 2009 at 10:42 AM.
I can't believe Arsenal arenot going to get him, CL football, the chance to link up with RVP.........I'm flabberghasted.
By DonnieB.. Posted July 26 2009 at 10:31 AM.
I dont see how the wages are an issue here? Yes we have a structure but surely the wage structure that has been in place over the last few seasons was based on our over bloated squad, we have now trimmed/sent players out on loan and so can pay higher wages, hardly going to go bankrupt.
By Tony R.. Posted July 26 2009 at 10:19 AM.
ARSENE GET HIM,KALOU AND VELO OR HANG WE WILL WIN THE PREM/CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FA KIDS TO WIN THE CARLING CUP.LETS BE QUICK
By Mr Gooner Bigg.. Posted July 26 2009 at 10:16 AM.
Huntelaar is a class act!! Come on Spurs grab him quick!!
By Chris.. Posted July 26 2009 at 9:49 AM.
Looks like Harry is going to bankrupt Spurs the same way he did Pompey, signs players and pays monopoly money in wages. When trouble sets in, he will be off to pastures new.
By Mitch.. Posted July 26 2009 at 9:39 AM.
Fact is Tottenham have the money to spend on Huntelaar and have already agreed a fee, just a case of sorting out the sell on clause from Real Madrids end and also the boy wants a pay off, after all they want him out. He will sign for Tottenham.
Crouch, Defoe, Huntelaar and Keane will be lethal!
Also Goone you sold your best striker to Man City so where is your ambition? Man City for top four but Us Everton and Villa will be chasing but I suggest Man City will finish top four. No more champions league for you goone!
By Tottenham 85 .. Posted July 26 2009 at 9:27 AM.
