Walsall defender Weston, who played with Scouser Gerrard at the Banks's Stadium for two years, says his old club have scooped a bargain.
He is convinced 23-year-old Gerrard will be a hit in the second tier, and has tipped his close pal to join his cousin, Liverpool hero Steven, in the Premier League.
Weston said: "To get a player like Anthony for £200,000 is an absolute steal.
"Only a year ago Walsall were valuing Anthony at £750,000 but because of the current financial climate nobody came in for him.Cardiff have taken advantage of the situation and getting him for £250,000 is a great bit of business.
"I played with Anthony for two years and he's a hell of a player. There's no reason why he can't go on to play in the Premier League."
