JOHN TERRY CITY PLEA

Chelsea skipper lays it on line to Roman Abramovich

JOHN TERRY demanded the chance to speak to Manchester City during two hours of crisis talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich yesterday.

Terry stopped short of handing in an official transfer request but the central defender is determined to speak with City officials over the proposed move.

The move comes 48 hours before Carlos Tevez flies in to Eastlands for a medical to seal his £25million switch.

Abramovich is desperate to keep Terry but the England captain wants his future resolved before Chelsea leave for their pre-season tour of America on Thursday.

The pair met after Terry and the rest of the first- team squad took part in an event to support Chelsea's charity partner for the season, Right to Play.

After spending the afternoon at Wentworth, Terry slipped away to talk with the Russian billionaire in a meeting that lasted more than two hours.

Chelsea are reluctant to let Terry leave for City, even for an astonishing £50m. But the defender is determined to hear what they have to offer.

City chief Mark Hughes is prepared to fly back from the club's pre- season training camp in Germany to convince the England captain his future is at Eastlands.

Terry, 28, will be offered £280,000 a week plus a £5m signing-on fee if Chelsea give them permission to talk.

There are already plans at City of setting up a John Terry Foundation, similar to the project proposed by the club during their pursuit of Kaka in January.

City's new partnership with Umbro, who also hold a lucrative contract with Terry, is seen as crucial to the deal.

Although the defender has told friends it would be a huge wrench to leave Chelsea, he fears they have regressed after the big-spending era under Jose Mourinho.

He is also aware of talk at Stamford Bridge about the proposed transfer fee from City being used to complete the signing of Alexandre Pato from AC Milan for a similar fee.

Milan are in talks with Sevilla over the arrival of Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano and will let Pato leave for Chelsea if they can conclude negotiations with the Spanish club.

Arrivals

Terry has become increasingly disillusioned at Blues and is concerned that they will not be able to challenge Manchester United's domestic dominance next season.

Although Chelsea spent £18m signing Yuri Zhirkov, the only other arrivals are Middlesbrough keeper Ross Turnbull and Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge.

Terry had been convinced after talks with Abramovich before the FA Cup final victory in May that David Villa and Franck Ribery were the club's two top targets but they have admitted defeat in their pursuit of both.

City are the up- and-coming team in English football with big bucks to realise the ambitions of super-rich owner Sheikh Mansour.

Terry believes City are just two players short of competing with Arsenal for a Champions League place.

being a footballer is a career, how many people would turn down getting double their salary per year doing exactly the same job?exactly so stop slatin g him football is a short career he has to make money while he can he is no Becks so won`t make hardly any money promoting products

Looks like he's making his choice, money over loyalty...

By Mark. Posted July 15 2009 at 1:55 PM.

If JT wants to leave let him do so but if you want to keep him then make him the highest paid player at stamford brigde if possible.

By Dytone. Posted July 15 2009 at 12:36 PM.

I'm beginning to doubt JT's loyalty to Chelsea.... After he made us to lose the champions league cup in moscow by slipping like a dog.... If truly he loves chelsea with his whole heart, then he should publicly put an end to all this brouhaha. No one can hold chelsea to ransom... If he wants to leave, he can. Life goes on.... Chelsea will still be chelsea even without him... Blues till eternity

By almonche. Posted July 14 2009 at 4:25 PM.

It's hilarious to see angry Chelsea supporters sayin that Terry leaves only for money.. where was Chelsea before Abramovitj stepped on the scene and signed players for fees much more than they were actually worth??

Anyone remember Ashley Cole? I never saw any Chelsea supporter screaming and yapping about it...Fotball is business. Atleast Adebayor is HONEST.

By Ralf. Posted July 14 2009 at 3:24 PM.

Let him leave,if he decides to to, If MAN U can afford to sell Ronaldo, Then who is terry to be sold. They are better players

By femi. Posted July 14 2009 at 3:31 AM.

JT, Chelsea legend and now just another one looking at where the cash is. Well if thats the case then go ahead and sell him! What right does he have to be upset with the club that has looked after him all his life, got him through some real problems with his behaviour and turned him into the countrys captain?
Maybe he just wants a better contract so his Mum can go shopping with a credit card for a change

By Gareth. Posted July 13 2009 at 12:01 PM.

Mr Chelsea eh? Mr Cashey more like. Oh how life is full of greed. Why people spend their hard earned cash to feed these greedy greedy people i will never know. Stop going to games and force clubs to reduce wages....Cash before club everytime. Loyalty only means, pay me enough and i will stay.

By ricky broomfield. Posted July 13 2009 at 8:26 AM.

What the hell keeping chelsea from getting rid of j.terry, don't you realise that he is over priced?in your place he'll be on the next plane to manchester, crab this chance mr abramo. and recoup some money, beleive you me,hell be a flop, cause he is useless without his fellow defenders, who always COVER up his mistakes,i pity the english national team, when one consider that he is one of the mainstays,oh my god ,how low can one NATION GO.

If terry wants to leave chelsea no problem he want to play for bigger club. But our ibrahimovic need him.John pls stay for me

By Ifeanyi. Posted July 13 2009 at 3:14 AM.

Man City would do better by investing in a decent manager. Hughs is very mediocre. He's buying the worlds most expensive players, not the best, mid season position will catch him out. Selling JT would be good business for Chelsea, plenty of better backs available for half his value.

By Mike. Posted July 13 2009 at 2:16 AM.

he's 28, a defender and City are apparently prepared to offer upwards of 250k per week plus an astronomical signing on fee!!! Football truly has gone bonkers! Chelsea can live with out him, great bit of business if they get £30-40m.

By Alan. Posted July 13 2009 at 12:25 AM.

Some monts ago he said he wants to stay in Chelsea forever, and now he wants to go cause of money... If he goes he will be the most hated person in England! However the money being offered is massive. We could use this money, with the money we already have, to buy brilliance. On the other hand where can we find another John Terry- he is unique, he is great defender, motivator and organizator. He could become one of the Chelsea legends. Hard decision the club have to make. If this story is true it is a shame that even the english captain will fall for money!!

By sara. Posted July 12 2009 at 11:28 PM.

j.t. i believed is chels through and through until now, i am a cfc supporter, i have no bones with what city are doing, but there are players that have a moral compass and love the team, he is a chelsea fan from boyhood, came through the youth ecademy, and learnt from the best, chels has looked after him good and proper and if he leaves then it will be the biggest mistake ever and will live to regret it. The money he earns has already secured his familys security, and if he moves is greed and only greed and as a chels supporter as others the players that demand pay increase is sickening to the loyal supporter and to turn his back on chelsea will be his down fall. he was in adams and keane status but now very dissapointed and sad in a player that i had admired. if the news is correct then sell him asap. he joins a long list of mercaneries.

By transporterman. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:00 PM.

Football is all about money these days. Couple of months ago JT was saying that he was staying at Chelsea for good. Now that Man City has offered him £300,00,000 per week, all of a sudden he wants to leave.

LMAO are you a scared red then who realises that daddy Fergie will be gone soon and you will be all alone as big name players start to desert you for THE team in Manchester, CITY? Or a bitter chelski blue who doesn't like that fact that City are doing to them what you did to us and others in the days of Moron-iho. Either way don't look over your shoulder but City are coming and there is nowt you can do about it! In all serious, as a City fan if we have a few years lording it up in or above the so-called big Top 4 then I will be happy.

By pistolboy. Posted July 12 2009 at 6:22 PM.

Man City, like every club before them, are trying to expand their reach based on the funds available to them from their primary benefactor. Nobody has a RIGHT to a Top Four place in the EPL, but from the results of the last decade, it is pretty clear to the whole world that MONEY has created a virtual monopoly on the Champions League places. Ergo, the ONLY THING that could possibly break p that monopoly (and I don't mean the occasional team making an occasional appearance) is the kind of investment that can add three or four BIG MONEY players per season to the squad. Man United did it with Ferdinand, Evra, Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Vidic, Rooney, Ronaldo, Berbatov and Tevez (that's an entire first team, minus a goalie!) in recent years BECAUSE of the money they reaped from Champs Lge, EPL monies, Glazers takeover, etc...
Chelsea have tried to replicate this under Abrahamovic (Shevchenko, anyone?! Not to mention all the others..Lampard, Cole, Drogba, Deco, Ballack, Carvalho, Cech, Cole, Bosingwa, etc, etc..)
Arsenal have done it slightly cheaper, using the French/African route, where players are not quite as expensive, although they joined the party with the likes of Arshavin.
Liverpool? Name the three Englishmen in their team?! They have to name COMPLETE UNKNOWN RESERVES in their Champs Lge squad and had to leave out the likes of Hyppia BECAUSE they have been turned into a mini-Spanish team.

By Ah, the irony. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:55 PM.

Terry leaving CFC is a blessing in disguise. He is getting old; and isn't one of the best defenders. His vacancy at CFC can be filled up by a really good defender. CFC should grab the change and let JT leave quickly.

By P.Vinayagam. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:24 PM.

40 million !!!! go down hackney marshes on a Sunday afternoon when the pub leagues are playing and you'll find four john terrys down there and three will have better haircuts.

Plodder who was made to look better than he is by cech behind him, carvalho/alex beside him and essien in front.

Chelsea should snap man citys hand off.

By Fergal Hunter. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:07 PM.

End of the day man city always have and always will be a crummy little team from the wrong side of manchester. You really think the England captain can save you? You think one player is the answer to getting into the top 4? Get real your useless! You make Robinho look like a sunday league player. The biggest joke of the summer Man City ha ha ha!

By LMAO. Posted July 12 2009 at 3:33 PM.

Sell him for £40m, spend the money on Pato. JT is a liability now, 28, dodgy back, lack of integrity etc.

By Kerry Trubee. Posted July 12 2009 at 3:45 PM.

in response to your comments SAM i really don't have any real bias to man city, though you may well scoff at that, the epl is a competition yes but at the end of the day we are all football fans arn't we.my post was about the way money rules all themes of life, have we not lost values in life as well as sport because of it.the money man city have has created the opportunity for them to be more ambitious.not their play on the pitch or achievements to date.man utd have earned their money through hard graft and sound business sense as have many other teams over the years.get rich quickly scenarios rarely work out the way people want.i care about all clubs and football as a whole.football don't need mercenaries,ie real madrids rape of other clubs players.perez is meant to be building a team not an army, how many players does he need, defenders might come in useful instead of dumping recent aquisitions like huntelaar ect. i dont hate many people but a few names spring to mind, perez,PETER (i have all the knowledge of man utd's scouted players) KENYON ,(I'M NOT BIASED) PLATINIand worst of all SEPP(THE ANTICHRIST)BLATTER who don't like champions who are english.may the best team win the EPL good luck to all.......

By gazza. Posted July 12 2009 at 2:45 PM.

Knowone bats an eyelid that madrid are spending crazy money nor when man utd, chelsea or liverpool spend big. It's just the top 4 dont wanna get taken over by Man City. They just hate it that were gonna rule world football beacuse we have more money than you. Noone moaned at chelsea for spending but they moan at us sounds like there scared to me. MCFC 4 EVER

By russell. Posted July 12 2009 at 2:42 PM.

I think time is up to let Terry goes. No doubt he has been a great servant for Chelsea. But no player is bigger than the club. His egos is becoming unbearable. He is a fading star. Pls Chelsea take the money.

By olu. Posted July 12 2009 at 2:05 PM.

Money talks people!! If someone offered you 3times the amount of money for the job you do, you'd be gone in a flash. However, JT is very well paid, so money should not be an issue, it may take 3-4yrs for Man City to be challenging for the title by then JT is 32-33, let him talk with MCFC find out there plans and return to chelsea and say no-thank you!!! Im a die hard Villa fan, and Gareth Barry proved to everyone money means alot more than loyalty, so much for leaving villa for a championsleague team!! but just remember this is a player who wants to manage Chelsea in the future, what comes around goes around, should that ever happen and a player does the same as he is doing, lets see the argument then...

By Jamie. Posted July 12 2009 at 2:17 PM.

Sorry Gentlemen....

You have all missed the boat on this one.

John Terry IS considering his future because CITY are the only club that CAN ensure we fit the new impending criteria for CL clubs...in the near future and have quality English players backed up with quality foriegn palyers...

Wonder how Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea and Man U will deal with the situation in a couple of years when they have to rebuild their teams around English palyers and CITY will be miles ahead

Look at our Acadamy and compare it against your own.....

Maybe thats why the so called BIG 4 are not in the market for the best talent in Europe.....

Yashin Manchester

By Yashin. Posted July 12 2009 at 2:24 PM.

England captain?

Get real, not playing in Europe will harm his chances, should be Steve Gerrard at least he cares about the shirt not the paycheck.

By Jason. Posted July 12 2009 at 6:33 AM.

You absolute idiot - has Gerard stayed on the same wages he was on when he first signed a professional contract? NO! He's just signed ANOTHER extension to his contract for more money! People need to realise that football is a business and footballers go to work like we do (though not like Scousers). They go where the wafes are better.

By Marko. Posted July 12 2009 at 1:54 PM.

just think about this, teves to city not united, barry to city not liverpool, terry to city not chelsea, the football world is changing, hello man city

By les the blue. Posted July 12 2009 at 1:54 PM.

Terry is not a world class defender to fetch that much.If he wants to go to man city let him go.He shouldnt be indespensable. They are so many better defenders than him.I just find the whole issue ridiculous.

By ndendai. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:00 PM.

two players short of competing with arsenal??? arsenal are going for top spot next season....with short of quality at united and old age home of chelsea.., it will be either liverpool or arsenal next season. City is a bunch of jokers will again finish somewhere in mid of the table... Go on terry...join the jokers club

By Jayanth Arsenal. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:06 PM.

Looks like 'Mr Cheslea, JT the Legend' is wanting to pack his bags and say goodbye to the Circus... But all he's doing is joining a bigger Circus...

By BGD. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:04 PM.

Think a few are forgetting - football is not menat to be only about money - it is about being a young lad playing footy wit your mates - dreaming of puling on the shirt of the team you support, playing for England and winning the world cup! As for being disillusioned with his current club - sorry but isnt he one of their players? If they are not winning is it not partly his repsonsibility? Other clubs have far less money and opportunity than his club.Ste Gerrard said - " I could have gone to Chelsea and won the premiership in my first year, but I thought about it and realised that it wouldn't mean half as much to win the Prem with tehm as it would to win it with Liverpool, it may be the harder way but it will mean a lot more to me and to my family". Is anyone getting my point of all this? JT swore he was Chavvy thru and thru.... apparently he is just a money grabbing, glory hunting little runt.

By lea. Posted July 12 2009 at 1:00 PM.

Gazza a few points that totally invalidate your argument

1. You talk about players should be moving for 'ambition' - at this point in time there are few more ambitious clubs in football than City.

2. You say they should want to play in 'better teams with better players' - but there is not a significant gulf in class between City players and Chelsea players, they are not a world apart. If City finalise a couple of their summer deals that have been believed for a while to be all but done, that will be even more the case.

3. As much as you (as a confessed Man Utd fan, which by the way loses your post even further credibility due to obvious bias) would like them not to, you don't know that City won't win trophies in the next few years - they might very well win a haul of them, for all any of us know.

By Sam. Posted July 12 2009 at 1:03 PM.

Would he demand to talk to city if the transfer fee was 10 million and his wages were the same? I doubt it.
He's over rated as a player and he can only play for half a season because he has a bad back.
he play's in the CL next season, but he's prepared to sacrifice the prestige of that tournament for more money.
Were has his loyalty gone from all those statements of wanting to be a chelski player for life?
Stevie G has just signed for life, because of a small wage rise and 100% loyalty to a team he's played for since a youngster.
That's LOYALTY, not GREED.
Terry is the england captain because he play's for chelski.
He's not consistent enough to justify the transfer fee and the wage.
There's better centre backsthan him.

honestly all english player like john terry are just after the money....why will JT leave chelsea for man city who cnt offer champions league for him in the nxt three season apart from uefa...am a chelsea fan for life and if JT goes 2 man city...i will believe all players are all after money....i think it's high time clubs start using their youth team n let them big players go....

By akan usen. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:18 PM.

i am luvvin the simplistic defensive view some ppl are taking about the money side of things on here - I earn 35 k a year, so yes if someone came and offered me a job for more money I would take it as going from 35k to 70 k would be the difference in a huge life standard for me and my family - however, JT earns 130 k per WEEK! Upping it to 250 k per week is not doing much to change his quality of life is it? Unless he needs to purchase 2 private jets instead of just one - or maybe that 10 bed country mansion just isnt big enough to house all his staff - maybe he needs a 30 bed mansion so he can add a few more gardeners and cleaners to his fleet of servants? A couple more bentleys maybe? LMFAO at the idiots! AS for his retirement - I think that his footy days may be over in a couple of years, but most footy players continue on to an equally lucrative career, i.e. tv, film, managment etc. and they also pay into pension plans - do you comprehend things now?

By lea. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:52 PM.

It may take a while but City WILL be the biggest club on the Plannet. If any Chelsea fan even dares to say that Terry is only going for the money then they should hang there heads in shame. Players have been going to Chelski for the cash for the past decade. We may not win the league for a few seasons yet but that will come. And when we are there we will dominate for years. Fans of the other prem leageue clubs who rant about City IE dream on, you'll never make it, Greedy money Grabbers ETC, ETC. Thats fine talk it up because we all know (including yourselvs) that you are talking from Jealousy, Anger and Fear. Look at how magnificant City fans have been down the hard years (34,000 fans atending in the darkest days of third tier football) No one can deny that we now deserve the good times. So stop spewing bitter Bile and just say kay sera sera. And wish us well.

what price loyalty, what price ambition, is it any wonder there are no BOBBY MOORE'S out there anymore save steven gerrard.i am a man utd fan and imo lots of money is ok if it comes with trophies, medals and accolades, are these players going to sit their grandchildren on their knees and show them bank statements instead. it is your achievements in football that determine your ability rather than your transfer fee and weekly wage. i think play for the love of the game as your career is short, and respect who went before you,old skool players respected the skills and loyalty of their counterparts and didn't join teams for financial gains but for the opportunity to play better football in better teams with better players. in short to improve their skills ,not their car collections.the game is poorer because of it .GERRARD FOR ENGLAND CAPTAINCY ..the one player who has it all including DIGNITY and no being a man utd fan it does not pain me to say that..proud to be an england fan as we all should be!

I can't believe the sheer delusion of those on here who think he would be stripped of the England captaincy simply for moving clubs haha!

As for 'everyone hating him' - no, there might be a little bit of, at worst, mild animosity at first but the ONLY people will enduring bad feeling toward Terry will be CHELSEA fans.

stop being so deluded (or perhaps wilfully deluded) as to think the whole of the game revolves around your club.

Be honest, who here would turn down £5mill signing on fee and £280k a week? Even the most loyal footballer ever born, Steven Gerrard, would find that hard to resist.

Chelsea have an aging team and Terry knows it. There's very little new young blood on the horizon.

And as for City being accused of trying to buy the title, well every team in the top 6 does that every summer, it's just some have more money to spend than others and therefore are able to challenge quicker.....

By John.. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:49 AM.

John Terry is a Chelsea thru and thru but we are talking of his future in possible life span of 75+ yrs. Unlike many other employed people who become pensioneers at 65yrs, footballers have a very short career life averaging 34. he has got a family to look after so why would he not go where there is more money after all we all change jobs when we get a better offer somewhere else, why not footballers? The choice is up to him, if he wants honours or money because at the end of the day honours do not feed the family but are only medals that show your achievements as an athelete. After all City are building so as to be contenders to titles. Go with what your heart tells u Terry

By taff. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:49 AM.

If Terry worth £280k a week just kicking the ball for 90 mins..think what a Formula 1 drivers or in motoring at all should have.as they risking their lives at 200mph. I would say Kimi Massa etc worht at least £1m a week.Man CIty will fail to finish in top 4 even if they sign Terry because he isnt that goood. Carragher is soo much better and has got heart..A true RED..just like Stevie G.
Liverpool to win the league Arsenal 2nd Chelskis 3rd Man U 4th Everton 5th Aston VIlla 6th Tottenham7th Man CIty 8th...hahahahaa..Man CItys all failures..trust coming season The Arabs will sell city and leave them all empty handed.....hahaha..

By ali. Posted July 12 2009 at 11:41 AM.

It doesnt Bother me if he wants to go to Man city but the fact that he always claims to be loyal to Chelsea and the bottom line is he wants to go because of the money.

Everyone can say that players going to Manchester are seeing all this future potential and all that but Chelsea are about to start a new chapter themselves with a new manager who will proberly last longer than the others. If hes that Loyal why doesnt he stay and make up for his penalty miss that cost his team the champions league in the first place!

It is all about how much they can make. I mean its pure greed consindering hes on 120,000 a week already. Is that not enough money? Cant he live on that.

Also Man City still harp on about how they want a youth system to produce new talent to break into the first team. Do me a favour.

By Paul MacDonald. Posted July 12 2009 at 11:17 AM.

John Terry is not worth £50m. He will be found out as soon as he leaves for another club. His only worth is that he is an english defender in a predimonantly foreign team who makes up for a lack of talent with agression and passion. That is not enough to warrant a fee this high. It is no surprise that not one foreign team has ever wanted to buy him. Good luck to him, as the next move he makes will be the last in his prime. I'd take the money and think about retiring at 32. if i hat £50m to spend i'd buy Newcastle Utd, knock the stadium down, sell the players and build houses on it. Bargain.

By Jeremy Over. Posted July 12 2009 at 11:03 AM.

If john terry is tempted by citys' offer one thing is for sure he will be determined to make it appear that he is not moving for the money. So what will he do? Exactly, find fault with current chelsea set up, express doubts about the teams ambition. Unless terry is angling for an improved deal at chelsea there is no reason to speak to mark hughes. This is a massive test for terry

By jim. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:59 AM.

Forget about the money (And the fact that I am a City fan). The way that Chelsea have seemed to handle the situation is pretty terrible. Leave him to make his own mind up and don't call him "money-hungry" or "greedy" just because he wants a new challenge!

By stantheman. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:20 AM.

CFC have had the best of JT, more injuries loom with his bad back. 50m for a player that cost nothing is good business.

By Neal. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:30 AM.

If JT leaves it will be the catastrophic for English football - a signal that money talks and smaller clubs, with less cash, have no chance of ever realising their ambitions.
JT has been a rock at the centre of Chelsea's defence for years, an ambassador for the game, and our nation's captain.
If he did move I believe he would be hated - not just by Chelsea fans - but by everyone. Everyone hated Chelsea following the arrival of Abramovich because we had the cash - jealousy.
And it's true that real football fans hate money-grabbing players - like Ashley Cole, for example, although he has been one of Chelsea's best players for past two years.
So Terry would become public enemy number one, and Capello woud have no choice but to give the armband to someone else.
I've grown up watching JT. In fact he's one of the main reasons I love Chelsea, because of his loyalty - he really is an example for younger players to follow.
Time to start showing it John....

By Chelsthru&thru. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:30 AM.

What goes around comes around. Chelsea brought the premiership, and now Man City are doing it to them, they dont like it do they!

By ben. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:35 AM.

I think you wiill find there is still loyalty to be found - Steven Gerrard - he was tempted, but his LOYALTY made him rethink and he decided to commit his future to us. regardless of your opinion of LFC - noone can deny that.

By lea. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:40 AM.

Maybe Terry just wants to play for a bigger club?

By Kinkladze10. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:39 AM.

So all you people moaning about him saying it's for the money are you honestly saying if in your current job another employer came and offered you an obscene amount of money to come over to them you wouldn't take it? Get real of course you would. Money talks in all languages. If Chelsea want to accept a bid and Terry wants to leave then so be it. Doesn't mean it's right but thats the way football works at the moment.

By Tally. Posted July 12 2009 at 10:38 AM.

Bluze...

How right you are..

Money Money Money..History History History

All the usual negative comments... Well History is History and I for sure am looking forward to a great future following the blues which I have done for the last 50 years... with YES Money Money Money and slowly slowly building a team that will ultimately be at the top table for a long time to come..

United etoo.. much debt. Liverpool too much debt bickering owners.. Chelsea no more ridiculous investments!!!!!... Arsenal slightly worrying...

Who will drop out??????

By Yashin. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:27 AM.

its unbeleivable, the amount of money being offered in wages now,as a liverpool supporter for 40 years i am jealous of whats happening at city, but i am concerned also.50 million for terry, worth 30 tops

By roy. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:44 AM.

John Terry will become more hated than Ashley Cole. The real Chelsea fans will know he has lied to them about his commitment to the club and will see he has nothin but greed in his heart. Only Man City supporters will want this man as England Captain so Capello will probably give the armband to Stevie Gerrard who has proved his loyalty many times over. I really hope this is all media hype but have a nasty feeling that the decision was made weeks ago on a beach in Dubai. A very sad Chelsea supporter for over 40 years.

By Jane Morris. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:30 AM.

Even with all these players city will fail. The team will not gel they will all blame rest hughes out and hopefully he will realise that speding obscene amounts of money on players is not the only thing to do. there will be riot amongst the team next season and hopefully it will prove to every team that money is not everything! take thought in spending money that big

By tom. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:23 AM.

Stick a £60 million price tag on Terry, if he wants to go then let him request his transfer. If he goes for £60 million - thats good business. Also stick a £60 million price on Ashley Cole and same terms for him. If Terry feels that the club has gone backwards since Mourihno left then maybe he needs to look at himself as the skipper and the influence that he has other the team - maybe he aint up to it (club or country)he also should look at his team mates as to whether they have given 100% week in week out and lets not talk about missed penalties. so, it s probably best he doesn't start to slate the ambition of the club.
These moves are money driven, if it was football driven then the only clubs that they would be looking to go to would be Barca or Real and even then it would be a step back. Chelsea Man U Liverpool are ruling Europe at the moment. Barca were lucky to get to the final of Champ League where Utd rolled over - probably because their main player (Ronaldo) was already in Spain.
City - your new owners have been there for other a year yet still no signs of improvement and there probably won't be this season either regardless of who you sign.

By Bobby. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:20 AM.

more speculation, no one would have been at this meeting to be able to leak it but roman and jt . if indeed there was even any meeting. the fact is jt has not come out and said anything, he hasnt asked for a transfer, he hasnt been asked to leave and is in no posistion to demand anything, he is a chelsea player, under contract to chelsea.
and the fact remains no one man makes a team. chelsea have performed better with out jt in the team over the last 12 months than with him in it. so talisman he might be, irreplacable he is not. Add to that jt publically stated his intention of lifting the ucl trophy means he wouldnt even consider a move to man pity, for a start only top 4 teams play in the ucl, man pity are not now nor are they likely to ever be a top 4 team. no one of any quality wants to sign for the mickey mouse wannbes, as for the fool saying chelsea have never been a big club ??? get your facts right, chelsea have the record for the largets home attendance in the uk, and it wasnt even against a uk team, chelsea have always been a big team with plenty of support and history, only a umptie would try and say otherwise.

By Paul T. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:28 AM.

It's payback time for SWP.Am I enjoying being a City fan? You gotter bet!

By Prestonblue. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:27 AM.

Don't want him!
CTID

By SB. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:13 AM.

If terry leaves it will be a big shame for chelsea. However the money being offered is massive. We could use this money, with the money we already have, to buy brilliance. On the other hand where can we find another jt. Hard decsion the club have to make. If this story is true i just think it is a shame that even the english captain will fall for money. Also im sure he is not the only big name im sure if you flashed gerrard or ferdinand or anyone that amount of money nowadays they would seriously think about it...

By barbs. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:09 AM.

Good on him....
Like anyone here would turn this amount of money down!!!!
Wise up.
He should just come out and say..yeah it is for the money...Can you blame me?!!!
Its a short career....all anyone can say is that he wont get champions league football..Who cares!!!
Like that is the be all and end all..

By Alex Fraser. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:09 AM.

When we signed Barry, all we heard was how he was a mercenary & it's about the money. Now,it's 'Mr Chelsea.' If you look beyond your tinted specs, can you not see that they are seeing something bigger? These (already) multi millionaire players may be excited about a new project that is being backed by people with foresight. To them, they could be at the start of something big.Whether we are in the CL,Europa Cup could be a positive,as our players would be fresher,as we would be having less games. Also,City might have Englands captain lifting the world cup!

Exciting times as a City fan.For everybody else.....get used to it!

By Prestonblue. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:40 AM.

If those figures are true that's an obscene amount of money.
Personally I think City should be stopped now, their spending is bidding everyone else of the water, although there is sweet irony that Chelsea are no longer the kings of overspending.

Hope Terry goes, and I hope City's new team of super stars don't gel and they fail dismally.

By hattie. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:58 AM.

Let him go. He has been a good servant to Chelsea,
he is looking at the money. chelsea have got some good young player's who could fill his shoes. There is a young good player at Newcastle they are looking at, buy him look at young player's. Thats the way to go. City will have to many big ego's for any body to handle, Hughes will be looking for a new job by xmas. The player's will have him out.

By Expom. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:56 AM.

Poor old chelsea, they've been doing this type of thing ever since roman came along, now they are no longer in possession of the fattest wallet the toys come out of the pram, they seem to forget they never have been a "big club" just the footballing equivalent of lottery winning chav Mikey Carrrol.

Hopefully roman will clear off and normal service will be resumed in west london.

By Dave Peacock. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:58 AM.

The name of the game is GREED! Terry has peaked and he knows that. His exit will benefit Mancienne ultimately. He will be found out defensively for his lack of pace. The £40 mil + will be used to sign top rate strikers. Goodbye Terry.

By Michael Enweluzor. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:07 AM.

If he leaves, I'll be sad to see him go... but if City want to pay $40m for a 29-year-old with some suspiciously worrying back injuries, then be my guest. Using the cash made to buy a 19-year-old striker at the top of his game? Sounds like a smart move to me.

By Adam. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:03 AM.

If true he obviously doesn't care about the club otherwise this would of been ended a long time ago.

Unfortunately loyalty is no longer in football.

By Greg. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:40 AM.

Terry knows those two signings were just for the homegrown rule coming in. Mr Chelsea WILL NOT be leaving Chelsea..... .....EVER ! ! ! Terry knows he's on the verge of greatness and do you think he's gonna turn down the chance of working with Carlo Ancelotti for Mark Hughes and have to be content with mediocre scorelines until someone has the balls to be the first major city signing..... Which aint gonna be soon.

By Chelsea mad ! ! !. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:39 AM.

J T is a very greedy man if to give up on CLge footie to join a team that finished 10th!!! Englands captain joke, no loyalty anymore..By the way i aint a London spiv fan, just a hard working man who thinks money comes 1st for the modern day player..Bring back the good old days where talent was in the feet not with the best deal your agent can get you...

By Barcaboy64. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:37 AM.

JT is a greedy man. Money...money money!!!... £140,000/week is not enough for you???..Geeez!! I would be the happiest guy on earth if someone pays me £5000/week....I don't want 140grand...just pay me 5grand/week and I'll be calling that person every morning to say thank you. If you wanna go, fine just gooooooooooo, you greedy man.

By JD. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:25 AM.

I SAY SELL HIM........... Mr Chelsea my back-side

The whole media world treated Ashley like the devil because of £5k, but it seems like John Terry is close to an Angel with his action.. all I coud say we should hold fire on the sale of Ricardo Carvalho..

I have learnt that the English players are the most greediest players in worldd football and you blame clubs for bring in players from the Scandanavian league or the new scounting ground in Ecuador.

By Ola Ray. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:22 AM.

Manchester City are trying to show that they are on the up. What better way to do it than taking the England Captain from one of the teams you are aiming to dislodge to get in the top four.
If they were after Essien I would be concerned but John Terry is a centre half.
As a footballer he is no better than Alex or Ivanovic but he is a great motivator and organiser.
Hughes knows that apart from Steven Ireland and De Jong he has no real fighters. If Terry Goes we could keep Carvalho who is a better player. We would need to find a new captain ,maybe Essein.

By pDzonu p. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:12 AM.

Money!

By jon ward. Posted July 12 2009 at 6:58 AM.

England captain?

Get real, not playing in Europe will harm his chances, should be Steve Gerrard at least he cares about the shirt not the paycheck.

By Jason. Posted July 12 2009 at 6:33 AM.

what a mercenary! I can't believe after all 'JT's bleating about how much he loves Chelsea etc he would even entertain a thought about leaving them. It was him HIMSELF who said he wanted to be there forever.

Sell him - £40m is great money for a clapped out old Centre Back. His best days are behind him.

By Ozzy. Posted July 12 2009 at 6:23 AM.

It's a bit like some idiot offering you double or triple the value of your car, even though the engine is stuttering and spare parts are no longer available. You would be foolish to say no. The fool is the buyer.
For Chelsea to get 40m for a 29-year old player with very real physical limitations and regular injury absences would be like receiving manna from heaven. Please let it happen.
Chelsea could soon be laughing all the way to the bank.

By Sir Cecil. Posted July 12 2009 at 5:53 AM.

Blah Blah Blah,

STOP with ya rubbish!
Baseball annual salaries
1, Alex Rodriguez, NYY $33,000,000
2, Manny Ramirez, LAD 23,854,494
3, Derek Jeter, NYY 21,600,000
Basketball
1, Kevin Garnett, BC 24,751,934
2, Jermaine O’Neal TR, 21,372,000
3, Jason Kidd, DM, 21,372,000
Alex Rodriguez gets about £391,000 a week(+ endorsements) at the current rate of exchange.
The real reason everyone is upset, is because, EVERYONE is worried that City will ruin teams next season and we will have probably 1 of, if not, the strongest squads next year. If we get Terry or someone of his stature and ability, who can be a genuine strong minded leader, instead of Richard 'I Brush my teeth with whiskey' Dunne, It will be like the 60's again with a Team full of British Internationals. I reckon Terry would be considered as one of the best signings they could get this season as he will influence everyone including the Acadamy and I could see our defensive future superstars in Richards, Onuoha, Kompany etc, learn so much and develop their great potential.
I love how My life is turning out, considering I've only ever supported City for the last 30 years and, I gotta tell ya its been torture.
So I can't wait when next season starts and our 1st programme has the squad on the back and this is what I'll see:

GK=Given,Taylor
DEF=Bridge,Richards,Terry,Lescott,Onuoha, Zabaleta,McGivern
MID=Barry,Ireland,De Jong,Elano,SwP,Kompany,
Petrov,Johnson,Weiss
FWD=Robinho,Tevez,SantaC,Bellamy,Bojinov

By Colin Bell. Posted July 12 2009 at 5:07 AM.

Terry is probley sick of the manager being changed every year who cant speak a word of english.

Could you blame him if he wanted to leave chelsea and for more money has well i for one would not a new manager every year is abit of a joke when your in the top 4.

By BRANDON. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:44 AM.

what a coup this would be. you would have to take city seriously if they pull this off

By Ciaran. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:28 AM.

He is not as rich as you think. But his bookie is.

By David. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:05 AM.

At last the illusion of the consumate Chelsea loyalist is blown apart.......
The "project" was never about building a
world-class team....it was about spending maximum pocket money to secure the Champions League trophy asap for an ambitious Chairman. JT acknowledges this now. The team atrophies every year with alarming consistency that a core foundation is never properly laid. He's given his all and every Premiership fan can see that.
If you want to play with passion and pride for your club and not get waylaid by the big money,
look no further than Gerrard and Giggs. JT was that close to being an icon. Still, one can now settle with legend status which can't be that bad. Frank Lampard, come on down now!
Those brickbats of Chelsea having no history and a Chairman who concedes his team have "no character" will continue to resonate but will be destined to be replicated at ManCity. It's a shame, history may not repeat itself for JT but it rhymes.

By GraC. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:12 AM.

jt u must come to city as we do not slag x players down like the chelskis are doing to you ,they should be ashamed of there selfs u are a ace player and will be a star with the blue shirt of mcfc .
by the way chelsea gurls JT is blue and its now the real blue of city
