JONATHAN WOODGATE IN TALKS

Star wants Spurs to cough up extra cash

PAY ME MORE - Jonathan Woodgate

JONATHAN WOODGATE has opened talks with Tottenham over an extension to his current contract.

His old club Middlesbrough have been paying a slice of Woodgate's salary as part of the £8million deal that took him to Spurs in January 2008.

But that agreement has been affected by Boro's relegation to the Championship.

Now central defender Woodgate, 29, wants Spurs to make up the shortfall by offering him an improved deal after 18 successful months in north London.

His contract runs until 2011 and Boro agreed to pay a proportion of the defender's £70,000 a week salary when he quit The Riverside.

Make him captain! He's always going to be picked when fit - which is more than should be said for Keane.

Boro-Ste - thats actually fairly common practice for clubs when they need to get someone of their books and lower the wages, but the buying club wont pay the players full wage.
Spurs are looking to possibly do the same with Bent and get rid of the useless git.

Woodgate is great defender, but him and King need to be on "pay as you play" contracts due to their history of injury. If they can not accept that, then get rid of them

Top players get top money. What would we have to pay a player of his quality if we bought him now?

Hang on! Woodgate quits playing for Boro but we are still paying a slice of his wages? That an absolute disgrace! Are we mugs or what?

give this man what he wants, he is a rock and deserves to be paid what the other players are being paid
