RAFA BENITEZ IN LAST-DITCH PLEA

KNOCK BACK - Real Madrid have made a £25m offer for Spaniard Xabi Alonso

Liverpool bid to keep want-away stars Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso

BARCA FANCIED - Javier Mascherano

LIVERPOOL will make a last-ditch plea to want-away stars Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso: "Stay one more year and we'll Kop the title."

Boss Rafa Benitez plans to tell the midfielders if they pledge their future to the club - even for just this season - he is confident they will be rewarded with the Premier League crown.

And Liverpool are feeling upbeat about their chances. Manchester United have lost Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, while Chelsea are having to adapt to another new manager for the third straight season.

Mascherano and Alonso are coming under mounting pressure from Liverpool fans to state their intentions.

Real Madrid have already had a £25million bid for Alonso, 27, knocked back, while Argentinian Mascherano, 25, is keen to join Barcelona for family reasons.

But Benitez is determined to bring the lingering transfer worries to an end with clear-the-air talks next week.

both of them still under contract. real madrid and barca had no money to pay to buy them. so just leave it. i think the main problem is their agent. if these player move agent will pocket extra commision.
remember anelka?

Liverpool are the best club in the World - I really mean it - R Madrids 9 Eureopean cup in which 5 of them came before English clubs joined the competion - so 5 came based on lesser competition and should not be considered - so with 4 Eureopean cups which is 1 short of Liverpools.

Now, here there are some Jacks who want to go to Real and go into obvlion like Owen etc., then Join a petty ManU manager - A man who is not even fit enough to warm LFC bench is the main striker for Manu - laughing stock

By sunil.. Posted July 20 2009 at 8:35 AM.

i think that xabi should think about what happen to beckam, owen and many other good players!!if you are really a player who want to play FOOTBALL,so i think that money is not important....xabi and mascherano should think twice before leavin such a club...

By GB7.. Posted July 14 2009 at 3:57 AM.

you cant blame Masch for wanting to go because his family are not settled and family comes first id let him go for no less than £28 million.

as for alonso it is rafa's fault but if he wants to go then £25 million plus snidjer would be a great bit of business on liverpools behalf snidjer is yonger and has bags of quality

By liverpool 4 life.. Posted July 13 2009 at 2:12 PM.

Rafas fault totally for Alonso. He tried to use him as bait to sign Barry ( TOTAL JOKE ) and now i dont blame Alonso wanting to be a part of the new Galacticos! Come on Red Men, bring the Premiership home next season!

we can replace both players so let them go see what come next

By tes.. Posted July 13 2009 at 7:24 AM.

Need the guys to stay, to easy to find suitable replacements at this pt in tym

By Michael.. Posted July 12 2009 at 11:23 PM.

No one player is bigger than the Club. Let them go. See what happend to Michael Owen when he left. They will go the same way. Bring in players who are passionate about playing for the club.

please stay alonso and mascherano stay
liverpool is the best in the world

This transfer nonsense needs to stop. Rafa needs to give them both a pay raise and both Alonso and Masch should in turn declare their loyalty to Liverpool once and for all. They would be crazy to leave a club on the verge of greatness!!

By Kim MacBeath.. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:29 PM.

Time is running out for Alonzo and Masc to make up their mind. They should do so NOW or NEVER.
I am sure that Rafa must already have thought of replacements should these two good guys depart. We shall never walk alon

Alonso & Macherano to me i think they do want to stay but because their agents wants some increment in payments, they are trying to rise some dust so that LFC can give them something better than they are currently earning. in fact these boys are too good and if u can remember almost all the red cards given to the opposition players against LFC last season, it was bad tackle against Alonso while playing in the pitch superbly. I therefore say that those boys should actually remain at LFC for better of the next season though we can get some players who can replace but they can take long to adopt into the kind of a game the club has through these past few seasons. Man U has lost their good players to better clubs and so this is a good chance for LFC to make a maximum pressure with the same players that mount immense pressure to them last season and hence take the L title. thanks Byaruhanga

if they both want to go i'd let them. i'd rather have lucas and spearing play. two lad's who want to play for us than two players who want away. i really like xabi and masch and hope they stay but if they go i'm sure rafa will get some quality in but it need's to be done now before pre-season start's i think xabi is still annoyed rafa did'nt want him last season but then again neither did real madrid and in masch's case i think it's just his agent with the my wife can't settle ploy i really think masch is happy at liverpool you only have to look at him when we score to see that

By chrissyren.. Posted July 12 2009 at 1:08 PM.

I have followed LFC since 1960, no player is bigger or better than the club, if these two players wish to leave then let them. We need players that are committed to the cause of winning the premiership not whinning whinging players that are chasing a pot of gold, we are looking for silver ware, championships and trophies, thanks alot to them both but hey without LFC they would not be the players they are now.

We need a forward a couple of creative midfielders, with the money we raise for these two we can buy them.

By Ian.. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:18 PM.

alonso should stay because Rafa made him a better all-round player and he should realise this.
Mascherano does deserve to get a pay rise for the work he does, he's solid in mid-field and should be on about 80 to 90 grand a week.
Both players have become better under Rafa and although they're may want to leave, thet should stay at Liverpool because Masch was sitting around at west ham and we rescued his career.
I hope both stay because we need that stability we had last season to help win the PL and possibly the CL.

By bonnythescouser.. Posted July 12 2009 at 12:31 PM.

I think that Rafa should give Mash a pay rise to settel him because he has earned over the last couple of seasons. But for £35 mil I would sell Alonso. Buy in a younger model like Martinez or an experienced replacement like Sneijder or Cambiasso for less about £15-16 mil and use the rest to buy David Silva. We could then use whatever funds we have left from the sales of Arbeloa and possibly Dossena to buy a decent back up striker and some cover in central defence like Distin for a couple of mil. YNWA

The two players should come forward and say they want to leave, and if they do LFC should sell them, LFC has transformed them into better players and in normal circumstances you would expect them to show some layalty,It is a childish excuse to say Xabi want to leave because Rafa tried to sell him at one time, it is a chidish excuse for Maschelano to claim his wife is not content with llife in England, many players who appreciate their fans have come up and cleared the air about their proposed moves to oher clubs, Ade,Fabrigas at Arsenal, Eto-Barca, even Drog at chealsea. Other players have openly appreciated what it means playing for LFC, Torres being a good example. These two have not and have decided to keep quiet, its high time they came up and said where their allegiance lies, LFC should not be put at ransom, it is un ethical and morally unacceptable for Real to set conditions for LFC to sell Xabi to them. If they want improvements in their contracts they should be honest and say so, it is only them who can decide their future and not the clubs who want to buy them. Xabi and Maschelano clear yourselves and show some respect to LFC.

the stories surrounding Alonso & maschrano r leaving a bad taste at liverpoolfc. liverpoolfc is now literally begging for the players to stay which should not ve been the case given that its liverpoolfc that brought them out of the shadows. pliz let them go before they bring the moral/spirit of the other team members down.....its a loss to let them go but its worse to keep unhappy player. we can rebuild without the pair....lets find suitable replacements with the funds from the sell.

By Gaza.. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:56 AM.

Mr Brown's top tax rate of 50% and the pound's slide against the Euro; it is about take home pay, lads, take home pay. Alonso and Mascherano are professionals which often makes loyalty a nonesense.

Thank goodness for Torres. Old-fashion values still play a large part in how he seems to see himself in the world. I admire Alonso and Mascerano and revere Torres.

Go, Liverpool!

By bryan.. Posted July 12 2009 at 9:42 AM.

i quite understood what the problem with Alonso, its because Benitez wanted to sale him last year to sign Barry. But he suppose to understand the fanancial status of Liverpool, u ve to sale b4 u buy it dosent mean that Benitez hate him. Am very angry about Machcarano he has never pay liverpool back for their faith in him, he want to treat Benitez real bad for all the good things he did to him. Look at the way Torres appreciated Benitez for making him who he is 2day i think Machcarano should also reason like that and stop biting a finger that feed him. Stella 4m Nigeria

could someone help me tell rafe that if they dont want to stay they can realy go.but i promise them they will never get first team shirt there, and their career would go down the drain, they would also loose their respect from we liverpool fans.there are players out there who would realy want to go to liverpool.thanks

By kenneth okorie.. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:56 AM.

i think rafa is willing to let them go driving the price up up to £50m for Alonso anything over £35m for Alonso and the same for Mascherano will give him funds to make the signing's to turn us into champs and if they dont wont to stay we dont need them better players have wanted to leave before and we never stayed in there way so dont change now keegan left best thing that ever happend to us look what happend then KING KENNY.souness left we still won the lot rafa will replace them to 2 at a fraction of the price in rafa we trust.

By kurt.. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:13 AM.

well he has changed his tune, couldnt wait to get rid of alonso last season while he tried to sign barry - and i dont think alonso has forgot that.

Can anyone turn Barca and Madrid down at the moment? i dont think so

I dont think either will be at liverpool next season

By Kev.. Posted July 12 2009 at 8:16 AM.

I dont belive that maschrano gets 25,000 a week.rafa should increase his money to make him stay and happy likewise alonso, increase their salary we need them.~sammy liverpoolfan

By Samuel.. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:34 AM.

listen to the kop sing boys! You will never experience passion like it any where else! Xabi & Javier u have earn't the respect of the KOP faithful why would u want to lose that? We are trying to build on from last season not deminish! Stevie G, Yossi, Torres have seen the passion & signed so come on lets get it together & see what we can get & show the others what we have! From Dave. "Xabi Alonso"

By Dave.. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:19 AM.

Alonso and maschrano should know that benitez brushed them up,they owe liverpool a lot with three more years, come on they should sign new deal and forget about going out

By Samuel.. Posted July 12 2009 at 7:18 AM.

Stick to the facts Chris.....

If he don't get the money that he wants for them....he won't sell them.....

And maybe he just won't sell them anyhow, they're under contract for the next 3 years....but one thing is for certain, he won't beg them to stay....

Justice for the 96!!

these two numpties they owe liver liver a lot, they must not forget who brought them to light in football.
RAFA JUST NO TO EVERYONE "YES YU CAN"

By spannaz.. Posted July 12 2009 at 4:39 AM.

I think they should realise that until they joined LFC they were nothing, they should sign new contracts with us and show the world we can win the PL

By bonnythescouser.. Posted July 12 2009 at 1:32 AM.

Just guessing again Chris? Must burn being on the outer these days.
