ST HELENS scrum-half Sean Long faces eight weeks on the sidelines with a broken jaw.
The 32-year-old was taken to hospital after suffering the injury during the Super League leaders' shock 20-10 defeat away at Salford on Friday night.
Long will have surgery tomorrow but still hopes to be back in action in time to make sure his Saints career is not already over.
The former Great Britain international joins Hull next season and there had been fears he would not play again this term if the break turned out to be a bad one.
However, the Knowsley Road outfit are hopeful Long will be fit to spearhead their end-of-season push for honours.
The half-back could even have an outside chance of being fit for the Challenge Cup final on August 29 - if holders Saints beat Huddersfield in the semis.
