NEWCASTLE face a new £750,000 bill for Michael Owen and Mark Viduka - even though they will not play again.

The pair's deals end on Tuesday but both have a clause to collect another month's severance pay if they do not sign for new clubs in July. Owen is on £125,000 a week and Viduka picks up £65,000 a week.

Keith Harris, the man brokering the sale of the club for Mike Ashley, was in America last night and an £80million deal could be struck inside 72 hours. But a legal battle with ex-boss Kevin Keegan is proving a major obstacle.

Keegan claims boardroom interference forced him out and plans a £9m court battle to pay up the three years left on his contract when he quit.

St James' Park is in complete meltdown. The club plan to cull the playing staff but Porto, who want Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez, have not been able to contact anyone to get the transfer moving.

And the coaching staff have been forced to swap their company BMWs for second-hand motors. In another blow, key fitness experts Robbie Elliott and Mark Hulse have both left.

Bring back Nobby Solano!

By Ricardo.. Posted July 4 2009 at 11:08 PM.

i'd really love it,,love it..if newcastle do a leeds

By peter.. Posted July 3 2009 at 1:39 PM.

Lay off Owen! No one held a gun to the club's head to sign the contract. If a player can be required to stay and play out his contract, a club can be required to keep it's side of the bargain.
While he had hamstring issues at Liverpool, he was fantastic for them and for England. The metatarsal injury he received(and the INCORRECT SCREWS that were installed to repair it no doubt by club authorized doctors!!!!!) delayed his return and caused him to be less than 100% for the World Cup and the resulting ACL rupture.
He seems to be injury free now and if he gets with a team that has the midfield service, he could well make everyone eat their words. As for Newcastle, going from asking 400 mill to apparently being prepared to accept 80 says it all. What a disaster that club is! Maybe they should turn the stripes horozontal, because they are going to be prisoners of the Coca-cola league for a long time to come!!

By Mike Troup.. Posted June 29 2009 at 5:44 PM.

The new Newcastle away strip looks like it was designed for a 15-year-old girls team. What a joke. Just when you think Newcastle has hit the pits they keep on digging even deeper. Going down!

When M&S had the penny sale on, The only things they had left when i got there were TOON TOPS>

By dave hunter.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:33 PM.

am a leeds fan and for some to compare us to newcastle is a JOKE. hopefully by the end of this season we will be going up and the mighty toon taking our place..R.I.P. THE MIGHTY TOON..joke club with joke fans..........

By dave.. Posted June 28 2009 at 7:57 PM.

If these two have any scrap of integrity, they will not accept any of this money.

By Martin Reynolds.. Posted June 28 2009 at 5:30 PM.

Poor Alfred, it's not our fault that Sunderland will forever be in our shadow. Give it a rest mate. Sunderland fans' obsession with NUFC is incredible. They ooze jealousy.....

By AlwaysMags.. Posted June 28 2009 at 4:26 PM.

oops that sould of course be farce not farse silly me

By alfred bennet.. Posted June 28 2009 at 3:35 PM.

john perhaps it is. probably due to all the strife i have taken from the mags i have worked with over the years with good reason i have to say. however i took it in good stead and what comes around goes around. they now think that newcastle will get out of the fizzy pop league with a record points total when they have an owner who wants to sell as fast as he can to anyone. no manager to speak of and a set of player most of whom want to depart newcastle at the first opertunity. i would call newcastle a circus but that is being a little harsh on circus's. it's more like a farse one of the funniest i have seen in years. R.I.P. newcastle. long live my small town inferiority complex and by the way sunderland is a city and its football team are in the premiership just incase you forgot

By alfred bennet.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:54 PM.

Alfred, your inherent small town Sunderland inferiority complex is showing.

By John.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:31 PM.

Newcastle deserve all they get paying over the odds wages to players. Man city will be next.
PS hope owen and Viduka take the money, you was stupid to make the agreements now stick by them.

By paul simmo.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:23 PM.

as a long suffering sunderland fan i am loving every minute of the problems that newcastle are having at the moment. i will miss the derby's not one jot. as far as owen giving his last month's money to charity are the people saying this for real. it does'nt matter how many millions he has got from newcastle he has a legally binding contract and if he uses his head he will wait until august to secure a new club and pocket his half million on the way to the bank with a smile on his face. what a laughing stock newcastle have become blundering from one crisis to the next each on giving me a good laugh. administration beckons for the once mighty but no more mags. i luv it absolutly luv it.

By alfred bennet.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:12 PM.

Owen was a shocking player for newcastle. No heart for the club and a team like us deserve better. Viduka is just in football for the pay check and nothing else. These two should look hard in the mirror before accepting a penny. You have to look at these agents but, because these lads are ruining the game.

Dont worry lads your Irish toon support is still stronger than sunderlands.

By sean monaghan.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:46 PM.

What a mess our club is in. Lets just hope a new owner/owners can be found soon before Ashley does any more damage. Next season could be about consolidation not promotion.

By Peter Stewart.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:32 PM.

Michael Owen was the biggest waste of money ever, totally useless and forever injured.

By Lucy.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:06 PM.

This is just what Newcastle deserve, I couldn't be happier.

By mick devine.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:41 PM.

Both players should do the honourable thing and refuse the money, neither player done anything to deserve the payout.
If they refuse to accept the money it will help nufc to buy a few players and it might redeem the respectability that they lost when playing crap football for nufc.

By bonnythescouser.. Posted June 28 2009 at 12:30 PM.

Until clubs refuse to deal with parasisitic agents who tout players around with obscene demands, deal like Owen's will continue.

By Derek Jones.. Posted June 28 2009 at 11:48 AM.

Lay off Michael Owen.

He's done a great job at Toon - and wherever he ends up the goals will start flying in. The problem's entirely with the crazy set up at Toon and the expectations of the 'fans'.

Get Shearer in - nothing will change. This is set to be the longest running comedy show ever.

Comparisons with Leeds/Man City are wrong. The Leeds/Man City situations were tragic - this is hilarious!!

Bring it on!!

By J Murray.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:53 AM.

if owen collects this payment he will be a total disgrace to the game. it may be in his contract but he has done nothing for nufc - who saved him from madrid. have fun at hull michael - you loser

By Paul The Snake.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:50 AM.

These disgraceful characters epitomise everything that is wrong with football, and for all the people who say they have a contract and are entitled to the money forget it..... part of the contracts surely says they will show a level of commitment to the club that they have blatantly failed therefor they are technically in breach of contract and should be chased out the door

By Gerry Keegan.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:39 AM.

Yet another scandle at the toon. Its supposed to be a football club, not a circus, then again it is run by a bunch of clowns. Everyone new these two players wouldnt be playing for the mags next season, so why the hell, did the clubs solicitors let the players agents demand these clauses to be written into their contracts. Everyone knows these two greedy overpaid individuals will hold out for new clubs until august, well thats if any club are stupid enough to take on two players who are constantly on their sick beds. C"mon ASHLEY get things sorted or things will go pair shaped and you will be playin local derbies, not against Sunderland though, but against Gateshead

By Mick Sanderson.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:23 AM.

Im sorry to say but mike ashley used the club like a hobby. He is not interested. Michael owen should be ashamed of himself for leaving on a free transfer. But at the end of the day all this moaning wont change a thing. So newcastle pull your socks up and dig down deep get back to the premiership where you belong. From a life long gunners fan.

By Gavin foley.. Posted June 28 2009 at 10:01 AM.

In excess of £40 million has been spent on Owen for a return of 30 goals.

He should be in the Guiness book of Records for that stat.

A joke club run by dysfunctional directors with a team that acts like the Keystone cops and with so many managers that it gives out a manager of the month award.

By Tony.. Posted June 28 2009 at 9:51 AM.

Like any other employee Owen and The Duke are entitled to their contractual agreement. Like I said at the end of the season the geordies are heading for administration and minus 10 points !

The Boro will be back, we've got a loyal chairman !

By stantheman.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:46 AM.

Newcastle signed their contracts, so Owen & Viduka are entitled to whatever is in those contracts. FFS they are legal employment contracts. Both parties to such need to execute their commitments in full. EOS.

By Andy.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:21 AM.

THat new strip of your`s reminds me of a great big banana skin . . . the one you lot keep standing on ha ha ha ha ha`way the lads safc4eva

By fat cat 73.. Posted June 28 2009 at 8:06 AM.

The way Newcastle have been run in the last few years there is every chance they could do a Leeds/Man City by getting relegated to Division 1.

By John from Liverpool.. Posted June 28 2009 at 7:18 AM.

Your all missing the point, to off load Owen et al you need to have management in place. This is the time when club management need to step and do their professionla management stuff. Where is Llambia sand Ashley? They have walked away and are not doing there jobs. It shows how rubbish they were at running a FC. Good riddance I say.

By John Hopkins.. Posted June 28 2009 at 6:35 AM.

IF this is ture and i say IF cause half the time this paper is a paper full of lies then owen shud forget what he is owed and donate the money back to the club cause he has let them down

By Danny.. Posted June 28 2009 at 5:10 AM.

Hilarious......absolutely hilarious!

I never minded Newcastle but I was at Villa Park when they got relegated and the 'so called' best fans in the country booed all through Laursens leaving speech. Now every time I read a story like this I cant help but laugh!

Oh by the way the new kit looks nice. Ashley is a legend for agreeing to that just to fire a warning shot at the fans!

By Richard Vahey.. Posted June 28 2009 at 5:05 AM.

Owen is an absolute disgrace to football, and he will no doubt feel any shame if he collects his severance pay. Do the right thing and give it to charity you little selfish man!!!

By jack arnold.. Posted June 28 2009 at 4:02 AM.

owen is a disgrace and keegan the worst thing to happen to Newcastle this time around. Keegan was always going to walk ashley or no ashley, he has no respect for the geordie public its about time we all realised this.

By stuart.. Posted June 28 2009 at 3:17 AM.

Owen money again for doing nothing! Yes you are a disgrace and if you had anything about you, you would donate this money to charity!
Your the worst player ever in our history!

By adam.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:05 AM.

Micheal Owen you are a total disgrace and represent non value for money - severance pay it should be you repaying us after the millions we have wasted on you even when injured so the sooner you get out of our club and city the better! Maybe we should rename you like the NE comic 'the little waster'

By james.. Posted June 28 2009 at 2:01 AM.

The odds on Newcastle joining Leeds in the 3rd tier of English football are shortening fast.

By Keith Price.. Posted June 28 2009 at 1:23 AM.

Come on Newcastle, Boro And Yourselves,we are out the top flight, lets get back and kick Sunderland out the Premiership

Get a grip Newcastle
