Ronaldo will become the world's most expensive player when he completes his £80million move to Real Madrid at the end of this month.

Cristiano Ronaldo - click here for his United career in pictures
And in his first major interview since United agreed to sell him to their Spanish rivals, we asked the Portuguese star: "When did you know you would be going to Real Madrid?"
His reply will astonish United fans: "After we won the European Cup."
United's penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea in Moscow was on May 21, 2008. Yet on May 24, 2009 - a year later - he insisted: "Manchester United is my home. Even when I say my heart is here people still make things up. But this is where I want to play."
Ronaldo told us: "After we won the European Cup I thought there is no more I can achieve here. And when you have done all you can, you know it is time for a new challenge. I stayed one more season and it was nice to make it three titles in a row but it was my dream to play for Madrid."
And while Ronaldo denied any knowledge of a pact between Real and United, he hardly dampened speculation that the clubs might have settled on a deal before last season began.

When asked if the move had been agreed a year ago, he replied: "No, not that I know of. Any agreements that the clubs had were private. I expressed a desire to join Madrid and the two clubs reached an agreement. This transfer is no different from any other."
Former Real president Ramon Calderon claimed he had sealed the deal six months ago despite United boss Sir Alex Ferguson stating he wouldn't "sell that mob a virus".
But Ronaldo himself shoulders total blame for the controversy that surrounded the affair.
He admits: "Anything that has not been right with the move is my fault and nothing to do with Real Madrid or Manchester United. I opened my mouth and that is what caused the problems between the two clubs who both acted in the correct way. Yes, I would have handled things differently and not been so public."

hey you haters!!! why can't you work hard so that we can read about you. in the meantime, let Ronaldo and stop the foolish talk!!

Given the strident way that statements allegedly attributed to Cristiano Ronaldo have been printed, particularly in the English media, Gestifute reiterates what it recently stated: Cristiano Ronaldo has been silent since he went on holiday, and all statements (in which he is supposedly quoted) are totally false and abusive.
The best player in the world who is spending the off-season with his family has not, to date, given any interviews, nor will he in the next few days. As a result, it can be restated here that any statements that are still being attributed to him are devoid of truth and authenticity and must not be taken seriously.

I think Ronaldo is an excellent player and 80M's deal worths reasonalbely. He played very well at MU but in Spain the style of play is different so we can't assure he will play well at Real. Hopefully, he can still be the best player.

Ba-bye CR7.
thank for everythings

i think you people are being unfair...Ronaldo has done so much for manu and we should be grateful..he is not from the united kingdom and so it is only fair that he lives close to his family and in a place where he feels whole..it is his dream that he plays for Real Madrid and so let him fulfill it.in my point of view it is you people that are being selfish..let him go and enjoy sunny Spain..he needs a new challenge..i believe that he will be missed.are you all telling me that all those moments..eg the famous porto goal were worthless?in my opinion Ronaldo is irreplaceable, he had this energy that he brought to the theatre of dreams..it is time to let go..after all, all good things come to an end..thank you ronnie.
By lakie.. Posted June 22 2009 at 9:07 AM.
let him go. hope that we get real madrid in the champions league and that vidic takes ronaldo down.
he is a dog and pony show. good with tricks sells jerseys and tickets as well as good when he wants to. when he doesn't then he dives, cries, doesn't try and expects to walk out without even trying.
am glad the board and fergie decided to depart with twinkle toes. bring on benzema. what about torres put the money back in and tempt the lad.

The most COMPLETE player I have EVER witnessed on the football pitch. The perfect football machine...as if he was created by a computer of God himself, for the game. It will be a VERY long time before Manchester United recover from losing him.
By Jackal.. Posted June 22 2009 at 2:05 AM.
I think its high time that the media left this alone, the deal is done an dusted an he is out....lets concentrate on the next season......
By Vik.. Posted June 21 2009 at 8:53 PM.
Baisicly my thought is in the last couple of months his ego showed more and more and his sulks were getting out of hand. But yeah fair enough he wants to go to Madrid cause it his dream i dont think its ungrateful. I just think that he could have sorted the sutuation a bit better than he did because once he opend his big gob after the world cup with the whole England hates you he said he wanted to leave but Fergi made him stay since then Real has been on his case every chance they got in the summer and in the Jan transfers and there was all sorts of rummers going about that we dont even know if it true or not. And i do agree united aint a one man band it the whole team and the fans that makes united, i do wonder whats gonna turn out next season though because all we know is it gonna be different, maybe, hopefully United can win the prem+Champ Lg next season just to show him what he is missing haha!. But time will tell.
By LW.. Posted June 21 2009 at 6:55 PM.
I think if Real and Ronaldo had acted with a bit of dignity and decorum instead of dragging it through the media, Man Utd fans would of thought differently. It is the lads 'Dream" to play for Real... let him go... they still won't win anything and he will fulfill his career with regret. He is a a great player but not indispensable... loyalty and commitment are the two of the best attributes a player can have for your club.. as a player he has everything else but neither of these
By BeakieJnr.. Posted June 21 2009 at 6:48 PM.
It makes me wonder why the media are on a Ronaldo hunt when quite clearly the one who has lied for over a year is Fergie.
By Joe.. Posted June 21 2009 at 6:31 PM.
Let the audacious winker go,get in a worldclass winger.
I was a huge Ronaldo fan till 2008 however like many reds couldn't sing the 'viva ronaldo' chant full heartedly since then.He has got class and skill, but it was United as a team and Sir Alex as a manager who made a pimpy teenager obsessed with stepovers into The Fifa World Player Of The Year. Will Kaka or supposedly Villa adapt to a completely new position like Rooney to make Ronaldo come out as the superstar.I doubt it.Each Madrid player wants to be the star in the circus of Florentino Perez then why part with the limelight.
Zidane,Figo,Ronaldo and Beckham could only bring one title to the Bernabeau in their playing years for Real, explaining the fact that too many cooks spoil the broth.
Whatever anyone might say, Manchester United does not depend on one player and no player is bigger than the club, even if it is the best player in the world.

You can blame ronaldo becouse its his dream seens he was a child and i wish him the best am sure he is going to show that he is the best player in the world and man utd i hope they are going to find a player that can replace ronaldo good luck for both of them Forever a ronaldo fan and A RED DEVIL Viva United and Ronaldo

Agree totally with k.kones, when he starts to be sub wants to see if he would sulk, your are warned Real Madrid is not Manchester United they are for Real, not a family unit as United, only time will tell figo said that, and it appears that you dont remember what you say, on 24 May you said you are a united player and now you are saying you would have gone 1 year ago . Thanks for what you gave us but the grass is greener at Real in a white shirt wear it well but dont put on Red under it would not show up your tan

Some of u guys r funni u have no clue,Ronaldo is a phenom of a player thrs no1 like him....he's the most complete footballer around n yes we send him with our best wishes he's a legend.......united will b fine as history tells us......evn tho all u scouse scum will b hopin udrwise
By Amr.. Posted June 21 2009 at 2:15 PM.
wilson, 2005 is the biggest fluke football has ever seen???............can you not remember man u against bayern or chelsea, or do you just conveniently forget?? bayern hammered them and only 2 goals right at the death won the cup, and only a slip when JT was taking his penalty stopped chelsea taking that one......to 'flukes' if ever i have seen them!!
By scott.. Posted June 21 2009 at 1:03 PM.
As for the Liverpool Scum, let me tell that your precious Gerrard will retire without a PL medal because if ManU dont win it Chelsea or Arsenal will grab it because you simply aint got what it takes to win it.
You all talk about your 18 titles and 5 CL, but you need to daily remind yourselves that your dominance was many years ago and not in the present time. In 2005 was the biggest fluke football has ever seen it, you will never never see Manu lose a final when they are 3 nil up at half time- fact. You are all finished and yes Torres will go, do u remember Gerrard when he was ready to go to Chelsea, the only reason he did'nt is simply because ur mob threatened his family with serious death threats, so it didnt go out of fear and not out of loyalty, put that in ur f****** heads. You are the scum of britain.
By wilson, london... Posted June 21 2009 at 12:16 PM.
u ungrateful sods, Ronaldo is chasing his dream so leave him alone. you should be grateful u had him for 6 years. u all talk about loyalty as if u know it. there is no such thing as a footballer, the only reason scholes and giggs stayed this long is because they were not brave or ambitious enough to leave. u all talk about Best and forget that Ronaldo broke his record and was the first player ever to win all individual and team awards he could possibly win in one season (Premiership,Club World Cup, Carling Cup, Fifa World Best Player Award, Golden Boot, Ballon D'Or,Fifpro,Top Scorer in the Champions League, Uefa Club Footballer of the Year and Uefa Club Forward of the Year.- no other player before him has ever received as many honours in just one year.
So U ALL need to understand that once a man wins it all then they willl seek new challenges-
Only the jealous and the fake football fans will not appreciate what he done for United and the Premiership but you will all learn the hard way.
Your comments completely disgust me, you are all more hypocrite than He is.
And i tell you know that even £80 million is not enough to replace him because simply there is no replacement for players like Ronaldo, Messi and Kaka so please stop kidding yourselves and start facing reality because it will get harder and harder next season because the truth is you lost your golden pearl, and Madrid has won a deadly virus that will bring trophies- fact.
I rest my case.
By wilson, london... Posted June 21 2009 at 12:06 PM.
Quite a touching interview actually. I don't blame Ronnie for wanting to leave. If it were the other way round for me and United were offering Real £80 million, as a United fan since I was a kid, I would be bound to go. He also wants a new challenge and you know as a lad from the backstreets of Madeira then the money must have been tempting.
He was a diver and could occasionally be petulant, but he also was a winner and contributed phenomenally to the team.I think he said he was staying because he could not see how Real could afford him.
He was the finest player I have ever seen at OT and having not been around in the Best era he will be sorely missed, he goes with many fans blessings.

By Vee.. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:41 AM.
I thought everyone knew this last year. You can't expect foreigners to be loyal to a club. I don't think CR has a decent body in his body.
And as for Man U not wanting a club full of egos.......Berba, well he's got a massive one and unsettles every changing room he's ever been in. Fergie, the biggest ego of the lot!
Good riddance to the winker, you should have tried to keep Tevez though.
By Jan.. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:05 AM.
Sir Alex doesn't take these decisions lightly and in my opinion he has chosen the right time to get rid of Eonaldo for a world record £80 million. Just remember Ronaldo, Beckham and Van Nistleroy won very little at Madrid, not because they couldn't score goals but because they couldn't defend. They still have the same rubbish defence as they had 4 years ago.
I thank you Ronaldo for they last 6 years during which Sir Alex and his staff groomed your god given talent into the player you are but remember this, after United the only way is down. At Madrid you will have a collection of individuals around you not a team liek United or Barcelona, you will probably lose many games 6 - 5.
By SteveO.. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:02 AM.
Glad to see the back of Ronaldo.Great player but brings a lot of baggage. There is no player bigger than a club. When a player displayes his large ego Sir Alex knows when it is time to say goodby .Look at Beckham,Stam their time came and they went.
Good luck enjoy your carrie on at Real.
By John Conmee.. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:00 AM.
wayne roone ring a bell ! ?
so your anoyed ronaldo left your club , so now you mancs know how we felt when you stole wayne rooney from everton , what goes around comes around ,stop crying and get on with it life goes on !!!- no player is bigger than our clubs !!! fact!!!
By john.. Posted June 21 2009 at 9:55 AM.
These times very few footballers are really filled with "club loyalty" values, we can talk about Raul, Del Piero, Totti, Gerrard, Lampard, Giggs (maybe some other in minor clubs)... and that's about it.
As any other worker, most of them just want to work at the best company, which in this world is Real Madrid,so I don't blame any of these moves.
Being "madridista" I must say I'm not sure if CR9 (yeap in RM, RAUL is nº7) will accept the seniors telling him what to do and how to act, but... that's it ... and he must learn that, if he wants to succeed in Santiago Bernabeu.
I'm confident that him and KAKA will get along well on the football field (that's what is, in fact, important)
And next years' Champions' League will be back to his home, our tenth...
HALA MADRID

one word describes the little winker. HYPOCRIT. Utd will be better off without him, Im more dissapointed that were gonna lose TEVEZ
By MICKY SANDERSON.. Posted June 21 2009 at 8:54 AM.
he's a player who has become too big for manchester united. like beckham, nistelrooy, united don't have place for egos. we are a 24 man squad + backroom staff, coaches and managers. United are a team. Not a one-man-band. Like becks and van nistelrooy, ronaldo is moving on to real madrid. i wish him all the best, but united will still be great.
By el-meato.. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:19 AM.
Madrid are welcome to him, I am glad he is going, we need people who are committed to the club and Man Utd are better off without him. Here's to the future for Man Utd. I couldn't give a damn about Ronaldo, he is a selfish player who only cares about himself and noone else.
By Emma.. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:34 AM.
When is England going to get over the hand of god goal....i have never seen a proffessional footballer admit he's committed a foul.....English always turn on maradona...he was the greatest player you ever seen....if he was English you would soon forget the hand ball...How can you even mention George Best when all he did was miss training and let the team down....Get over it as we can see through your bias argument
By ricky broomfield.. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:35 AM.
Common guys... you english fans forget that Ronaldo is not from the United Kingdom, how can you expect him to have loyalty to the club like Giggs or Best... he was there for 6 years, he did great he gave you many trophies and prestige, it was a good but he has his dreams.... no one can blame him. He is now ready to shine in Spain
By Tiago Portugal.. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:46 AM.
Ronaldo is a talented footballer, Maradona was a talented footballer but the biggest comparison between them is their talent for cheating. Neither are fit to even lace the boots of truly great players such as Pele, Cruyff, Best, Charlton or Maldini to name but a few. Ronaldo represents everything that is wrong with modern day football, he's only in it for himself. Football is a team game but this current attitude of self, self ,self will ultimately kill the game. As for the Manchester United fans, well he didn't give a toss about you either which makes you the mugs especially after the way you conveniently forgave him for cheating England when Rooney was wrongly sent off against Portugal. I hope when England play their next game the United fans who so readily forgave Ronaldo don't bother turning up as you have clearly displayed the sort of loyalty that only he would be proud of.
By trueblue.. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:05 AM.
Ferguson & Utd have again done the right thing by sell him before he thinks he is bigger then the club, which in some ways I believe he does. They can now hopefully buy 2 or 3 world class players and make Utd even stronger. Will he be a success in Spain time will only tell.

The ugly sod made a mockery of the PL and complete prat of himself!
By Norwegian Gunn.. Posted June 21 2009 at 6:00 AM.
What I've failed to unravel so far is why Ronaldo and Kaka both so desperately wanted to go to Real Madrid. There is enough support for both the angles, football and money; one could randomly select either with equal ease of credibility, even if neither Kaka nor Ronaldo have ever publicly acknowledged their pursuit of lucre. The very flippant reason of Ronaldo escaping terribly punishing English weather and being closer to his habitat may have been a factor. But what moved Kaka. Was it down to the lure of the mystical 'siren' that Real appears to many a footballer?
I can see the commercial viability of the deal for both the clubs. Football-wise, United have been conned. And Real can have little guarantee of ensuring the La Liga supremacy, unless they take quite a few additional steps. These too will cost big.
So, I am at a loss to follow any footprints. The trail has vanished. Any enlightenment?
By Ajmer Singh Bains.. Posted June 21 2009 at 3:44 AM.
Im just glad he has gone he gets to much attention and he craves it
I understand the best footballers in the world are going to get a lot of attention but ronaldo craves it unlike others
He is the premership's biggest brat ever and will always be

I dont think any united fan can hate ronaldo, its a lifelong dream of his and its only right he does all he can to fulfill that dream he has became a legend at united and everyone should respect him for what he has done, its not somthing any of us united fans wanted to see but maybe it is for the best after al this speculation, i hope he does really well at madrid and continues with his fantastic carrer!
