1 Lewis Hamilton (GB, Age 24)

WHAT a change from last year. Hamilton has had a nightmare time on and off the track, with his MP4-24 car turning out to be a dud. Will have spent last night praying to the rain gods knowing a downpour his only hope of a win.

Debut: Australia (2007); Best Championship Position: 1st (2008)

Races: 42; Wins: 9; Poles: 13; Fastest laps: 13; Points: 216

null

2 Heikki Kovalainen (Fin, 27)

THE Finn has struggled with the car even more than his team-mate. Needs to find some form very soon or risks losing his place at the Woking outfit, having failed to support Hamilton last year.

Debut: Australia (2007); Best championship finish: 7th (2007, 2008)

Races: 42; Wins: 1; Poles: 1; Fastest Laps: 2; Points: 87

FERRARI

null

null

3 Kimi Raikkonen (Fin, 29)

JUST one podium finish so far, with Ferrari paying for last year's to-the-wire title fight with McLaren. But has kept the paddock laughing with his comical new cap.

Races: 146; Wins: 17; Poles: 16; Fastest Laps: 35; Points: 540

null

4 Felipe Massa (Bra, 27)

BMW SAUBER

null

null

5 Robert Kubica (Pol, 24)

STARTED the season hoping to mount another title charge but seventh place at last race in Turkey is his only points finish so far. Problems with KERS (energy recovery system) in early races didn't help.

Debut: Hungary 2006; Best championship finish: 4th (2008)

Races: 47; Wins: 1; Poles: 1; Fastest Laps: 0; Points: 122

null

6 Nick Heidfeld (Ger, 31)

GRABBED second in Malaysian monsoon thanks to strategy call and almost beat Jenson Button. Holds records for number of runners-up spot without a win and race seat is under threat.

Debut: Australia 2000; Best championship finish: 5th (2007)

Races: 157; Wins: 0 Best result: 2nd (x8); Poles: 1; Fastest Laps: 2; Points: 206

RENAULT

null

null

7 Fernando Alonso (Sp, 27)

REALISED early that his hopes of third title were over thanks to lack of double diffuser. But has battled bravely on and looks certain to be heading for Ferrari if F1 does not split into two.

Debut: Australia 2001; Best championship finish: 1st (2005, 2006)

Races: 129; Wins: 21; Poles: 17; Fastest laps: 11; Points: 562

null

8 Nelson Piquet (Bra, 23)

LUCKY to be kept on after disappointing maiden season, but the errors keep on coming from most disappointing driver on grid. Yet to score point with Alonso on 11. Enough said.

Debut: Australia 2008; Best championship finish: 12th (2008

Races: 25 Best result: 2nd (x1); Poles: 0; Fastest Laps: 0; Points: 19.

TOYOTA

null

9 Jarno Trulli (It, 34)

RED BULL RACING

null

14 Mark Webber (Aus, 32)

HAVING a fine season after finally being handed a fast car. But for Button, would have bagged that elusive win by now. Been more than a match for team-mate dubbed the new Schumacher.

This will be the last F1 British GP I ever watch, unless mad max gets out of the FIA. The new breakaway will have my full support, he has ruined the sport.
