FRUSTRATED - Maria Sharapova in Birmingham

MARIA SHARAPOVA reached breaking point on Saturday as she came up short again in her comeback after injury.

The former Wimbledon champion smashed her racket in frustration as she was beaten by Li Na 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.

It was the Russian beauty's third event since a nine-month lay-off after undergoing surgery on her shoulder and her first defeat against her Chinese opponent.

Maria's serve was broken six times and she claimed the racket incident was an accident.

Sharapova said: "I can't remember the last time I broke a racket on court. I had slipped on the court and was just cleaning the bottom of my shoe.''
