MARTIN O'NEILL wants Jermaine Jenas to replace Gareth Barry.

The Aston Villa boss has a midfield gap to fill after the exit of his most consistent player to Manchester City.

And Spurs star Jenas is one of almost an entire squad of players that White Hart Lane chief Harry Redknapp is willing to trade so he can free up funds.

Jenas, 26, signed a one-year extension last summer to the five-year deal he agreed in 2007 and would cost in the region of £10million.

Spurs strikers Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent are also on their way out.

Pavlyuchenko, who has hit just five league goals after his £13.8m move from Spartak Moscow last summer is a target for Roma, while promoted Wolves and Birmingham lead the chase for Bent.

Real Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy, 32, has been linked with Spurs but his age and £100,000-a-week salary make that a long shot.

Gbp10 mil for jenas think that is a bit much i'd say 5-6 mil would be more relistic but you'll get more goals out of jenas then we got out of barry. Up the villa for next season

10 Million for Jenas? Are they joking? 10m on the continent will get you a much better player than HIM!

He certainly isnt the required quality to replace Barry
