Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is ready to offload the 20-year-old defender, who burst on to the international stage two years ago.
Hughes wants Portsmouth's Glen Johnson and that would push Richards out of the first-team picture at Eastlands next season. Anfield boss Rafa Benitez, aware of the financial constraints he will have to work under this summer, believes he could pick up a bargain.
Richards has already been capped 11 times and Benitez wants a powerful and versatile defender to strengthen his squad for next season's Premier League title assault.
The right-back's star has fallen since England coach Fabio Capello took over the full national side but Benitez believes he can revive Richards' international career and the player would welcome the move.
Long-term fan Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could also be tempted to make an approach for the England full-back.

If the only players we sign this season are Johnson, Richards and a decent cover striker for Torres, then I will consider it a good summers work by Rafa (as well as keeping Alonso,Masch and Babel, which I think he will do). We played some wonderful football at the end of last season and we don't need a big overhaul and a change to our setup to accomodate another 20mil striker, what we need are decent squad players who can cover for our world class starting 11 who, I believe, could beat any team in the world in 90 minutes. BUT... we do need a quality right back; Arbeloa has improved and been consistent, but he's just not quite good enough, although I have been a fan of his. Johnson is England's first choice right back for good reason, and I'm made up that we seem to have him all-but signed and ready to go. Liverpool's new number 3, welcome to Anfield!

As a lpool fan its a shame to hear that we seem to be on the verge of selling some of our best players and replacing them with...well.. mid-table players at best.
We will never get our glory years back untill we can get new owners that will pump the funds that are needed to be champions. Another champions league spot is all we have to hope for next season.

Richards can attack as well as defend.he is very strong in the air and is brilliant at bombin down the line. He's a bargain at 5million. We should get him, Robben, Lennon and Tevez and then we would win the league

LFCfan128, I'm not sure what you are talking about. Johnson, a solid, proven RB? If you've seen the man play then you might realise that whilst his attacking play on the right wing is pretty good, there is one minor, fatal flaw........He cann't defend! What's the point of having a full back who can't cover the space he leaves behind him. Carragher can't sort it out all the time. Richards can defend and we have Arbeloa who did pretty well running down the wing and crossing some really good balls. If Rafa goes for Johnson then I won't be dissapointed but being a full back is not his strength....he's more of a wing back, an attacking one, but if you can run and cross but can't tackle or close down then you're a wing back not a full back. Richards, I think, would be a great buy for 5 million. And hope thats the way we go.

Richards wont be worth 3 grand in 2 years time hes just far too heavily muscled at 15 years old he was incredibly developed for his age, watched him come through at city and have watched him turn into half the player he was.he doesnt read the game too well, hes all about speed and power, but now his speed has deserted him,(he looked much slower last season),hes started to get found out,why do you think Hughes wants rid,Zaballettas a far better right back, and Johnson is in a different class

Will he be influential in Liverpool winning the EPL? My answer is no. I think even Johnson will struggle but he has more experience. Both players blows hot and cold. Yes, Johnson had a good game against Andorra (yes Andorra!) but before that he had a nightmare! Richards is the same. Now, do Liverpool want to tinker for another year, picking up so called "bargains" that wont winus the PL?! I dont think so. Rafa should aim to get a solid proven RB, Johnson will do, and Arbeloa can rotate, if he stays.

remember when Glem Johnson left his football was in decline due to lack of opportunities at Chelsea look at him now his game has rise up i would say the same for Micah Richards amd he would be a successs under the guidamce of Liverpool FC we are investing now just for now but for the future as he is 20 that is good investment and being English that will do good for Europe.

Doomed Full backs? Calm down mate. Arbeloa has been a very good success, so good that Real want him back and that he is part of the Spanish squad. Aurelio is a class FB, it's just injuries that have hampered him. Insua is looking like a fantastic prospect. In fact he's only made 2 real mistakes in Krompkamp and Josemi, both he got rid of pretty sharpish. You may say Dossena, but we will sell him for as much as we bought him for. Still a firm Italian international, with a goal against Real and comically Utd to boot.
I'd rather Richards for 5 mil, then Johnson for 15 mil.

micah is a gud player but i dont think for 5mil last 2yrs ago he was rated as 25mil and i still remeber mancity didnt sell him but if hes available for 5mil is a far cheap please sign him fergie. he will b another maestro in the defence. every player has bad season as he had last season like nani but he is a better player. hughes should b mad to sell him for 5mil my personal opinion

Please don´t sell him Hughes! he is on of the brightest prospects in the Premiership, maybe even the world!!!! He will be much better than Johnson in 4 yrs...

No way he's signing for 5 mil but if Liverpool do sign him he'll be another added to the list of doomed full back signings by Rafa.
