ALAN SHEARER is ready to quit Newcastle and take over at West Brom.

The Toon manager's relationship with the club has reached breaking point after owner Mike Ashley put the club up for sale after they had crashed out of the Premier League.

And, last night, Shearer emerged as the shock favourite to replace Baggies boss Tony Mowbray, who is expected to move to Celtic this week. Once Mowbray's departure is confirmed, negotiations will begin with the Shearer camp.

And Sport Of The World can reveal that the former England striker will listen favourably to any offer.

The Toon legend has been left frustrated by Newcastle's failure to confirm him as manager and give him the time and resources to revive the club's fortunes.

Two rival consortiums are interested in taking over Newcastle but any sale won't be concluded until July - after Newcastle's players return for pre-season training.

A source close to Shearer said: "The delay is damaging. It has been frustrating for Alan. He will not commit career suicide."

I dont think that Mowbray should go, because it will take us another couple of months to get shearer or whoever to get used to the players. But why should we throw away all our achievments with Mowbray. But who will Shearer have to manage West Brom will sell all the good players like we normaly do! But I think Shearer will be a good manager for the Baggies in the championship and will lead us to win, but I hope he can keep us up in the Premiership unlike Mowbray. Maybe we say he couldn't keep Newcastle up, but how long did Shearer have to sort out the team? BOING BOING BAGGIES BAGGIES

by the way that mickey mouse league that you talk about .he will also have the chance to play in europe
which i think is a little bit better then the conference but you are right shearer does need more time to mature as a manager

By baggie 4 .. Posted June 7 2009 at 9:37 PM.

nobody seems to understand anything wots goin on at wba no ambition no monies and no owner with backbone lets get rid and start again bring back megson

By baggie boy 4.. Posted June 7 2009 at 9:36 PM.

we dont need a messiah at the albion, if we did and were dilluded as the geordies, we would want regis , brown or statham, gary thompson etc , sounds daft , but thats what great players give you, a performance, but as managers no way, we want somebody normal, not a messiah, because it just dont work.in my book why not a gordon strachan,

I don't think Shearer could be any worse than Bryan Robson he is the reason I never renewed my season ticket that year. Mowbray has done a great job but we were still relegated not that I blame him it's Peace that needs to go he won't spend on decent players we can't attract anyone to the club and that has to be down to Peace. Shearer may not be the best choice but look at the mountain he was expected to climb with a team that were only in it for the pay packet, you can't blame him for not saving Toon it was an impossible task if you ask me. Get Peace out and bring back Megson it's the only sensible thing to do!!

All of you need to get a life.

As a baggies fan for 60years, what is that Prat Peace doing, how can he even think of appionting Shearer who has no experiance and took Newcastle down.We have tried a manager with no experiance and failed, no he wants to appiont a manager with no experiance at all.It is Peace who should go,and get some in who knows what they are doing,Curbushley or some one simlarwho knows how to keep a team in the prem every season.Mowbray should be ashamed of himself,he seid the baggies fans where the best supporters in the league, and soon as another job with more money offerd he jumps ship .WAT PRICE loyalty

Newcastle and their fans are as delusional as Gordy Bruin. Shearer is not a manager, Ashley continues not to understand the expectations or style expected otherwise Big Sam would never have been hired. Biggest mistake was going for Keegan. The whole of teh country thought he was a spent force West Brom. Alan Curbishley or Steve Coppel are men who know the dividion and the type of players needed to cope.

re Ha Ha Samaras, i'd rather be in the conference than the mickey mouse league in jockland. Enjoy your games against Hamilton, St Mirren and Falkirk
ha ha ha

Not bothered if Mowbray goes, but Shearer? You must be joking. It has to be Steve Coppell or bring back Nigel Pearson.

We dnt want mowbray to go anyway...and if he does, shearer is not the man to take over at west brom, wat as he done....nothing, i loved him as a player but he needs some more experience. DNT GO MOWBRAY
BOING BOING

wolves fan here, i realy hope they get alan lol

By dave.. Posted June 7 2009 at 2:02 PM.

Rubbish, whats shearer done to make west brom sit up & take notice. We need someone like Alan curbishley so we can challenge to come back up. I think there's a big danger of ending up a middle of the table team like Coventry or some team like that.

By David Westwood.. Posted June 7 2009 at 1:22 PM.

If Tony Mowbray goes "i hope he stays" we will need a managers with experience and plays football the way we have under Mowbray.I don't think shearer would be the guy yet,he was a great player but he as only had about 6 games as a manager. We have everythink in place to get back to the Premier League next season with the right manager.

By kev.. Posted June 7 2009 at 1:02 PM.

Tony Mowbrey was only let down last season by a series of missed chances that would have left the baggies well clear of relegation a position there football deserved Stoke were a disgrace and have will continue to bore everyone to death next year when they will go down with a lower points haul than Derby managed.
As for Shearer replacing Tony Mowbrey you have to be joking pet!

By clive Buswell.. Posted June 7 2009 at 12:36 PM.

i think this is a complete mess up why would albion want shearer when he cant even save Newcastle from going down!

By Jack Trueman.. Posted June 7 2009 at 12:02 PM.

The Baggies played better football than many other sides in the premiership yet they still went down. Newcastle can easily be a division 1 club next year, the championship will not be an easier ride for them. What they need is wealthy ownership, an experienced manager and a committed playing staff. They will need all three to have any chance of promotion, less than that will see them in another relegation battle come next spring. WBA can bounce back to the premiership, but not with a rookie manager.

By robert smith.. Posted June 7 2009 at 11:49 AM.

Julie

Why would you not want Joe Kinnear back?

While he was manager Newcastle got 23 points, they only got a total of 34 points all season.
18 Prem games, 5 wins, 8 draws.

If he had not become ill Newcastle WOULD of survived!!!

By Andy.. Posted June 7 2009 at 10:08 AM.

Albion need a manager with experience. Shearer means well but I'm afraid that it is not enough. Mowbray must stay or we get Dave Jones in to replace him. Boing Boing !

By Stuart Hatfield.. Posted June 7 2009 at 9:43 AM.

As a born and bred geordie i'm glad shearer wants to manage elsewhere, he needs experience at smaller clubs like hartlepool etc before taking the reins at either the toon or west brom. personally i'd like to see gary johnson at bristol city or aidy boothroyd take us over and help us survive in the championship let alone go back up. as a season ticket holder at st james since the late 70's i'd like to see how many fairweather 'keegan era' supporters turn up now that we are down!!

By braddas24/7.. Posted June 7 2009 at 9:28 AM.

To Julie Husband,

"Any manager will alway live in shearers shadow"

What shadow would this be? One win in eight and relegation from the Premier League? That's a shadow most people would cross the street to avoid, myself included. It is this kind of blind faith that paints a picture of desperate Toon fans and as such, reinforces the stereotype. Newcastle fans aren't like that in the majority so do yourself the fans and your club a favour and step back, take a deep breath, take five and look at it from a realist's point of view.

Newcastle need a stable backer, and if Ashley isn't it then whoever takes on the club needs time and patience, above all from the fans, to find a decent manager to put the club on a more stable footing and not splash out to appease the 'Messiah'-mongers but to make sure that when they do go back up they will stay up. Sam Allardyce should still be there now in my view, but what do I know?

Howay tha lads, as you Geordies are believed to say

By aotearoavillan.. Posted June 7 2009 at 9:30 AM.

Mick ashley has ruined our club so much for the debt he paid off.He will never be welcome at st james park again.
As for his treatment of alan shearer its a disgrace.
Any manager will alway live in shearers shadow and if he thinks we will accept joe kinnear back you have to be joking.

By Julie husband.. Posted June 7 2009 at 8:27 AM.

He never wanted the NUFC job he only took it as he got the chance to get more money than he was on at the BBC. This latter was on the basis he kept them up so you could see he lost the passion one game after he took over as he reliesed how bad a lot u were Duff,Owen(only a geordie 4 a 100 plus grnd a week),Guiterez,Smith,Taylor. The list goes on. Enjoy the championship while my team Glasgow Rangers enjoy the Champion Lge thats wat big teams r in like NUFC oh forgot been in once wen was the last time u were in europe as big clubs r most seasons. WATP 52 AN COUNTING HA HA SAMARAS

By Ha Ha Samaras.. Posted June 7 2009 at 6:09 AM.

Does everyone forget that Shearer should be off doing his coaching badges, so he can then 'legaly' manage a top side. Or do you not need your coaching bages to manage teams in the Championship?

By Nick.. Posted June 7 2009 at 4:01 AM.

i stopped for a minute and thought is it aprils fools ?

This has to be the biggest joke this year

I laughed my head off soon as i seen this lmao

By Dan.. Posted June 7 2009 at 3:06 AM.

I would LOVE IT if SheRa went to the Baggies.

Boing Boing!

By Daniel Howden.. Posted June 7 2009 at 3:58 AM.

In the North? Not really. It is only Newcastle fans who constantly demand a Messiah who is 'Geordie' and understands them.

Boro/Sunderland couldn't care less who our manager is, or where he is from as long as he gets results. Rookies are found up here simply because recently it is all we could attract.

Shearer is a terrible manager. He should drop out now and go back to MotD. Either than or take Newcaste to the Conference.

Ha'way Sunderland!

By Chris Hunt.. Posted June 7 2009 at 1:20 AM.

NONSENSE!!!
why would wba want shearer when his record is one win in eight and he clearly couldnt rally his team to score a single goal and avoid relegation?its only in la la land up north that rookies become managers because they are so desperate for a messiah.Whats he done to prove he could make it in the premiership rather than the many managers out of work that have achieved?
