LIVERPOOL TO LAND GLEN JOHNSON

Rafa Benitez confident of beating Chelsea for full-back

GLEN JOHNSON - going
GLEN JOHNSON - going

LIVERPOOL are confident of beating Chelsea to the signing of £10million Glen Johnson.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez will lodge a bid when the Portsmouth full-back returns from international duty with England.

Benitez is keen to land Johnson, 25, after suffering a major setback when Villa's Gareth Barry chose Manchester City.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is also interested but Benitez hopes Johnson's previous unhappy spell at Stamford Bridge will influence his decision. Benitez can guarantee Johnson he will be a first-choice next season.

Anfield's debt-ridden finances are not a stumbling block as Benitez is still assured of a big transfer kitty and knew the situation when signing a new five-year deal.

Glen Johnson would be a great signing for Liverpool. I'm sure he woudn't want to go through what he did at Chelsea again so he would probably choose Liverpool over Chelsea.

glen is not going back to chelsea if there is an option to go to Liverpool. Johnson says that he prefers liverpool to chelsea.

i am a chelsea fan but i would advice glen to stay at pompey for the sake of regular football. if he goes so does his chance for 2010 worldcup.

Liverpool need more pace, skill, creativity and youth in the side as soon as possible:

Glen Johnson is a very good right back and i think Rafa should get him or Rafinha of Schalke to be our No1 Right back at the club.

We also need to bring in some out and out width, pace, creativity, youth, excitement out on the wings :

Diego Capel of seville : To Light up the left wing at Anfield

Antonio Valencia or Aaron Lennon : To stretch and open up teams on the right wing.

David Silva the creative midfielder in the Iniesta Mould who can play in the centre as a three or in the hole or on the wings if needed.

And lastly : Samuel ETO'O world class striker to complement Torres and form the best striking partnership in the world for many years to come!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but Glen is to sign for Chelsea on thursday, who have beaten Liverpool, Man U and Tottenham for his signature

He still has his house 5 mins away from the training ground and still socialises with many of the side

Abramovich never wanted to sell him and it was The Special One who wanted rid

Glen Johnson is NOT rubbish, he is probably the best English right-back at the moment. Judging him on an international performance is stupid, we are talking about domestic team football and he had a very good season.

We need more English players to protect ourselves from potential new rules. He has played alongside Gerrard a few times (who incidentally rates him highly!) and is an attacking RB who can take on a man and go passed to get crosses in.

£10m in current market is a decent price but I wouldn't want us to go higher than that. Arbeloa is wanting out so he can go, probably for £6m so we'll only be spending £4m to get him. Sounds like good business to me.

we should go for srna from donesk. As well as being a very good rb he can also play as rm. And surely he is cheaper than johnson and much better

I don't know why were trying to sign him, he's crap and last night's performance against part-timers really showed how bad he is. Rafa look elsewhere cos he'll be a bad buy for us.

I thinck Johnson would be a good buy especially with that rule that fifa want! And he's much better than Arbeloa but I would still keep Arbeloa as back-up to Johnson, even though Johnson didn't do too well last night but I still believe with him, plus Michael Owen for free and Silva, we could have a shout for the Premiership.

why does everyone forget that Portsmouth still haven't fully paid Chelsea for Johnson yet, I'd welcome him back to Stamford Bridge anyday it'd be good for England as well having 3 out of the back 4 playing together on a weekly basis

Not a bad player going forward but suspect defensively.Barry didn`t "choose" city over liverpool. They were his only option.Rafa benitez was after him last summer not this. Will anybody realise this.

By elnino.. Posted June 7 2009 at 8:19 AM.

the liverpool fans in england must do something about this sittuation of the owners . i am lfc fan from malta from here we cant do nothing but you can put that kind of preasure on yankies they must go cause if they dont they will sell our stars like xabi ,gerrard ,torres ,mascherano ,& even benitez will go & this nothing if they fail to rifinance there debts by the uefa rules the lfc will collaps & will have to droop down deep into non league club this will means all the players will have to be released for nothing so dont let this hepened .

By mario gauci.. Posted June 7 2009 at 6:26 AM.

It better he go back to Chelsea to sit on the bench and second to Bosingwa. He will miss South Africa World Cup 2010....then Chelsea will sell him again. If before for 4M pound to Porthmouth, maybe later for 2M to Championship clubs. Pity Johnson........

By Apandi Dan.. Posted June 7 2009 at 5:05 AM.

i think he better go back to chelsea....he can go far...

By iqzan.. Posted June 7 2009 at 2:58 AM.

Hopefully Johnson will stay at Pompey- we rescused his career from going nowhere. Has just signed a 4 year deal and with it being a World Cup year surely he'll be better of somewhere he's proven himself.
