ARSENE WENGER has opened the door for Thierry Henry to make a sensational return to Arsenal.

Henry is still idolised by Arsenal fans after an eight-year spell with the Gunners in which he scored a club record 214 goals.

The French superstar has failed to reach the same heights at Barcelona, but Wenger has no doubt he still has all the qualities to succeed at the highest level.

Asked if there was a chance of Henry returning to The Emirates, Wenger said: "Of course. I hope for the club to have people of his quality.

"It would be difficult as a player because in 2010 he will be 33. I still talk to him. He was on the phone not long ago.

"Thierry does not miss one Arsenal game on TV. He even watches the reserves.

"He has a very strong link with this club. He had a massive influence here which also had a massive influence on his career.

"I believe somewhere in everybody's career one club has a stronger pull than any other. For him it would be Arsenal."

Letting Henry go in 2007 remains one of Wenger's biggest regrets. He said: "It was his decision. I tried to convince him to stay.

"He said, 'The way you are going you will have a great team in two or three years. But I can't wait that long. I am 30 years old'.

"He knew from training. When he left Cesc Fabregas was 19, for instance. Thierry is very intelligent.

"Last year we had 83 points and with him we might have got the extra points that would have won us the championship.

"But after eight years it was difficult to stand in his way. When he had given us so much and had the opportunity in Barcelona we had to make a decision."

Wenger hopes to see Henry lift the Champions League trophy for the first time in his career on Wednesday night and feels it would be a fitting achievement.

"He needs to have a successful final," said the Arsenal boss. "In 2006 he just lost in the Champions League Final and knows he had the chance to score the second goal. He played in the World Cup final and lost on penalties. At 30, that hurts."

Henry is real n good, but to win tophies we need a better defence and determind stikers not Adebayo n Bentner.......also too much injury vulnerable: look at Rosicky, Clichy they affected us all the way due to injuries.

I think that Titi would be an advantage as we can see when adebayor and van Persie play together it does not work all the time but with the departure of Ade Titi would be the right man in his place. Anyway our Boss knows it better than us let him decide what is good for the club as for the time being you can say its his own team because he has grown them up and perhaps its time for them for the delivery.

he is a legend of the club .But, however, If just look at what he did for the club would not be reality , because who ensures Henry will play as well as he was or just bring him back , then see him sitting in bench and pay him high salary . This is also not match for the club that spend money economical like Arsenal .

Henry is the greatest player the premiership has ever seen and in 2 seasons at barca has been awesome, him at arsenal next season would only be a positive thing and benifit this great club! He would boost morale, help the youngsters and add extra quality we have missed, teams used to be scared of us now they're not, henry will add that fear factor which is greatly missed! vavavoooom!!!

I beleive even for one season he will be very useful but the cost of bringing him back outweigh the benefits. Unless he become out of contact. Why can't arsenal buy players from teams being relegated? For available budget I think that is the way to go!

The proble of Arsenal is basically lack of consistence in their games. And there are some plays out there who are not responsible enough on the pitch!

Yonas, you got it spot on!!! I do not believe that Arsenal's goal is to win trophies for the next couple of years. The board realizes that it has no money and are prepared to to wait a few years for silverware. As long as Arse can play attractive football and stay in the top 4 in Premiership and reach the last 8 of the CL, the board will be happy. These guys share has increased from 400 pounds per share to 10,000 pounds since Arsene has been at the club.

I am an Arsenal Fan. To my opinion, the club need this coming season to bring in some new experienced defenders a defensive midfielder. In short Lee Dixon comments are very valuable if Arsenal wants trophies. Three defenders, 1 defensive midfielder and a striker of Tevez quality would be enouth to start. But how do you get all those players with only £13m from the board? Tevez alone for example costs > £30m!! What do you do with £13m? I think the club needs £60-100m to add quality players to the nice young team. The board should be realistic unless the goal is something else and not to earn trophies!!

There's no indication that Henry will come back to Arsenal as a player - Wenger himself says in the story that it would be very difficult. He may come back in some coaching role, assuming he gets his coaching badges.
