MANCHESTER CITY have stepped up the chase for Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor.
City officials first contacted his advisors last October. But they were told to try again in the summer - despite the striker having just signed an £80,000-a-week deal - when Arsene Wenger might be more willing to do business for around £21million.
City have since asked his agent Stephane Courbis to be kept up with developments as the African looks for the Emirates exit.
A source said: "City made their interest known and have no problem finding the fee or increasing his pay. It is not definite Adebayor will leave Arsenal but looks more likely than last year."
The Togo international spent last summer trying to engineer a move and was booed by the Arsenal fans last pre-season. He did sign a four-year deal last August.
However, Arsenal sources say the player and Wenger have an agreement he would play one more year before looking at his options again.

Why all the hulabaloo about Adebayor staying or leaving.....,we've let go of Vieira,Pires,Gilberto, and one of the best strikers in the name of Thierry Henry........why not Adebayor? If he wants to stay, fine and good and if he wants to leave, all the best to him in where ever he feels he wants to go. After all Wenger knows best. He unearthed Vieira,Pires, Gilberto, and even Henry and Adebayor himself and turned them into the stars they all are, now we have the likes of RVP,Song, Diaby,Gibbs,Clichy,Vela and even bendtner all WIP's that will all explode to stardom in 2009/2010 season.

why do so many posters seem to know what Ade turned down to stay at Arsenal? Where do you get your knowledge......oh I see the very same place I seem to be. What rubbish I read....After openly courting a move away last summer Ade managed a huge new(to us mortals anyway) contract. He may have been injured but when he has played his body language has been atrocious. The critics see this week in week out. He may succeed elsewhere but he is clearly not motivated at Arsenal. Tribal accusations accusing arsenal fans of being ungrateful etc are so boring.....

It is sad to hear gooner fans talk about adebayor as if he does not want to be an arsenal player. We seem to forget that he refused a much higher wage to stay with the club. give credit where it is due. be critical with his game but don't criticise his passion for the club. These so called arsenal fans make me sick. the type that turn their backs on their own players when things take a turn for the worse. Have they ever thought that the reason man Utd have been winning cups is not because they have rubber band banks but because they have loyal supporters who stick by them through thick and thin? Everybody involved with Arsenal should take a look in the mirror and judge themselves instead of blaming ade.

I'm really surprised to read all these negative mails about Adebayor. This is the guy who scored over 30 goals last season and we were desperate to keep him. This season, he has not replicated his scoring prowess and some peope are calling for his head. Too bad! Our problem is not in the attack. Arsenal must keep all the strikers but invest what little money they have in getting some experienced and tall defenders. That is where we have the problem. Arsene knows and says so. It is about the team and not an individual, and together they can score goals, but they concede a lot and cheaply.

Oh come on Arsenal's problem as illustrated time and again is that we can't hold on to a lead , Adebayor has potential, did you really think it was fair offering him £50 000 a week after the season he had last year. He stayed despite the offers of almost £100 000 a week from Milan so get off his back, he was injured for a big part of the season and booed by so called Arsenal fans the rest of it.

You can't believe Arsenal fans? That's rich coming from a group of supporters who sent death threats to Steven Gerrard when there was solely media talk linking him with Chelsea a few years ago.
The difference is that Adebayor has regularly opened his big runny mouth to go on about how marvellous it would be to join Barcelona and AC Milan, very obviously using the interest shown in him last summer to blackmail a pay-rise in proportions he did not deserve, which has further been shown to be the case with his shoddy efforts this season. And then he has the temerity to make out he is utterly committed to Arsenal, he doesn't make the stories ...
Will be glad to see the back of him and use the money getting in someone who lets their performances do the talking - not their agents or their oversized egos.

There's certainly no way Arsenal are going to get £30 million for Adebayor this time. He's had quite a poor season so his valuation is not what is was a couple of seasons ago. Arsenal should take £21 million if it's offered (he only cost £4 million) and add it to Wenger's small transfer kitty. Hopefully, Wenger will then be able to bring in the two or three established, high quality, players Arsenal obviously need. Arsenal need to watch out for Man City though - that almost guaranteed Champions League place may not be so secure if City really do get a team together.

Arsenal fans must rate among the most stupid. Why would any club want to buy Ade for £21? He is a quality player - not doubt.
He is being pushed out for other reasons. Didn't Steven Gerard consider signing for Chelsea? Why is it okay for Gerrard to weigh his options and not Adebayor? Could it be they are unequal in the eyes of the media?

It is true that Adebayor has not been happy of late but he is full of potential.
I think the figure of £31 million quoted by the fans here is about right.

im not sure arsenal can lose both their big strikers. Personally i would cash in on Ade and keep Bentner. I think he will come good, he creates enough chanes to score but needs to work on his finishing. I know most arsenal fans will disagree with me but I do think he will come good and needs the backing of the fans.

It seems like there are many out there on common grounds having the same opinion. I thought I was only one of the few but now its clear there are aplenty! Yes, no Arsenal fan should be too worried about Ade leaving. And yes, Bendtner can leave too because they are simply not good enough. But of course it would be good if City can pay more like say 31 million but he's definitely not worth that much. Bendtner may not even attract a major club. Only clubs like Birmingham might want him. This may sound bad but thats reality.
