We need at the very least a right back and quality support for gerrard and torres. Rafa's prob thinking english players cos of the quota for champs league. I think glen johnson is a good attacking right back. He has improved a lot this season. Portsmouth prob owe us for Crouch, so right that off and give them a few £M. If Alonso goes, he needs to replaced with a class player, cos Alonso makes us tick in midfield. He is so important and dictates our tempo. Barry would be good, but not as a replacement for Alonso. A replacement for lucas, yes!! Send him on loan somewhere!! We also need someone with skill and guile, to dribble direct at the opposition and create chances consisitently. Left mid: Silva is class, so is his team mate mata. Att mid: Diego at werder bremen is good. Up top dzeko has been class for wolfsburg and so has grafite. Who knows, but a club like liverpool shouldnt have to sell their star players to raise funds for new players.

DONT SELL ALONSO!!! this will be a big mistake, because he is great player with good control on ball.. iam sure that benitez wont do this....liverpool need another good striker.. but i think tevez wouldnt come to anfield because he will cost to musch money.. yesterday liverpool lost one of the best player in the heart of defence--- SAMI HYYPIA!! he is a legend!!! RAFA MUST NOT SELL ALONSO. Xabi has been our best player and quite consisten for his stay here at anfield. There is no way i believe this article if it was true i dont think alonso would have played today and if it was true he would have made his farewell clear therefore i dont think xabi wants to leave and he has made that clear. This is what i think rafa should do this summer:
Sell: Voronin 5mil, Pennant 3mil, itandje(free up salary), dossena 4mil, el zhar 3mil, degen 4mil, hyppia 2mil which will give us 22mil plus 20 mil from owners.
Buy: Silva 16mil, johnson 10mil, Tevez 24mil/or lavezzi for 18mil, barry 9mil(dont need barry though) which would be equal to about 50 mil. We could then use the money from the keane deal to further help our spending. Rafa will also get money from sellin players lik hobbs and anderson and a host load of our reserve players that will never make it into the first team.
THE WHOLE MESSAGE IS THAT RAFA DOES NOT NEED TO SELL ALONSO AND HE SHOULD NOT AND ALONSO WILL NOT LEAVE. If rafa cannot afford tevez then he should get lavezzi as he is quality and can be just as effective as tevez

First he sells Keane (rubbish idea guy wasnt given a chance) Selling Alonso is absolutely ridiculous the guy is a legend, by far our best play this season. We will take 100 steps backwards if we sell him. Barry as good as he is, is not in the same league as Alonso. Really starting to question Rafa. Glen Johnson really? we dont need him. Id bring in Villa and possibly Silva, Klose or schweinsteiger. If you want to sell anyone, sell Babel, Dossena, Ngog and Degen.

No direct quote from Alonso that he wants to leave, but we did have a direct quote from him on the Liverpool website saying he wants to stay - now who should we believe?

Also if his agent had really informed Rafa that Alonso wants to leave on Friday, there is no way that Rafa would have played him today against Spurs.

Re: Alonso wanting to go somewhere else were he can start enjoying his football again?? Alonso has been playing brilliantly all season with a smile on his face - definitely not a sign of an unhappy player.

Wasn't this paper also pretty much telling us that Rafa wasn't signing a new contract and was definitely leaving and that Agger had been pretty much signed sealed and delivered to AC Milan.

This writings been on the wall since Xabi stayed at home to watch his child being born instead of going to the C.L game last year , then the Barry situation muddied the water further. Rafa needs to grow up and realise that he will struggle to find a better player for the money, certainly not Barry , and put his arm around Alonso and say i want you to stay . which of course Rafa is too big to do. So its bye bye Xabi but he wont ask to leave , he will be sold by Benitez and have a choice of big clubs to choose from. My Jack Russell "Xabi " isnt too impressed either with this story , lets hope its untrue and Xabi stays despite Rafa's abuse..

Why are you lot banging on about , please dont sell Alonso, the whole article is about Alonso himself wanting to leave, if he has made his mind up what do you expect Rafa to do? Its the players decision at the end of the day, barry can do a job for us in the alonso role and if it frees up cash to sign tevez as well as maybe silva and glen johnson then so be it.

I personally think David Silva should be the number one target this summer because he can play on the left but cover in the centre when Gerrard is injured. He is also a creative/flair player who can chip in with 10-15 goals per season.

Glen Johnson is another player I would like to see at Anfield because although Arbeloa has done a good job for the money we paid I still see him as a good cover player when someone is injured. Also there is no competition for his position.

David Villa is an amazing player but I think Liverpool play best with a 4231 formation instead of a 442 and neither Villa nor Torres will be happy on the bench.

The other player I would like to see at Anfield is Maxi Rodriguez from Atletico Madrid. He is more than capable of scoring goals and is an experienced Argentinian international. Dirk Kuyt could then be used as cover for Torres or on the right wing when a disciplined performance is required eg away from home in the champions league.

Between Torres, Gerrard, Silva and Maxi we would have the ability to score 55-60 league goals and wouldnt miss Torres or Gerrard as much when they are injured.

I would sell Babel, Lucas and Dossena because they aren't good enough and would only sign Barry as a replacement for Lucas - not at the expense of Alonso who is a better player.

If rafa sells alonso it will mean that every year we will again be saying 'maybe next year we will win the PL' Because that's what'll happen if alonso is sold.
Alonso has been the best player all season, even if he was injured I'd still expect him to be a better player than barry, anyone can see barry isn't good enough to tie alonso's bootlaces.
Maybe rafa should look elsewhere and buy someone who can play alongside Alonso, don't sell alonso or you will take us back to houlliers reign.

It's a crime that the American's are making us sell Alonso to afford other players, we should have Barry AND Alonso, if we want to challenge for major honours, but it's not going to happen.

Yes, Rafa wants Barry for Alonso, but he doesn't want him as a direct replacement. If he wanted to stick with our 4-2-3-1 formation he would keep Alonso because he is better suited to that formation then Barry.

But...

Rafa doesn't want to play a 4-2-3-1. If he had the players he really wants he would play a 4-3-3, & with Barry's more natural attacking instincts and his forward runs & ability to drift out left, he is better suited to that formation then Alonso is.

Why does every Liverpool supporter think Tevez is the answer to winning the premiership?, he is a player in the Dirk Kuyt mould that runs about like a loon but doesn't score enough goals. If anything Kuyt has just had a much better season and Tevez has just proven he is well overpriced and SAF wouldn't let him go if he was that good. We could use the Alonso money on much better players than a player that has just scored 6 goals and wouldn't get on well with Torres on the pitch.

Alonso' 23m£ + 20m£ given by our miser owners +Riera should be enough for us to land both Villa & Silva.Riera has been good but we don't need 2 spanish national wingers.Valencia would require another winger as Vicente"the higly injurious one" cannot play for a whole season & Riera is spanish.
But I don't believe this article as Alonso himself has stated nothing & this season he has "really enjoyed his football".

i used to believe in rafa, some signings where of the mark but in saying that he has brought one of the best strikers liverpool and the EPL has seen in some time in torres, he has also brought in mascherano who is one of the best CDM in the world, along with two brilliant CB's in agger and skrtel,

but in selling alonso he would be losing liverpools best player of the season, gerrard hasn't been tip top and over the *SEASON* alonso has been magnificent, one of the best passers of the ball since scholes in his prime.

and to replace alonso with a player like barry is simply a crime!!! granted barry is a excellent player in his own right .. but to put him up against someone of alonso's talent is rediculus!

Another Rafa disaster. The 3rd best player in the team wants to leave. When will he start adding quality, instead of letting it go. Even if we use the money to buy Tevez, we have gained one, lost one, so the team does not improve but moves sideways. Then next year we will here the same crap - we are nearly getting there, and then Torres will leave. 3 years of nothing - and counting.
