The Belgian has been booked 13 times in his debut season prompting Everton boss David Moyes to seek guidance from ref supremo Keith Hackett.
Fellaini, 21, said: "I was concerned and had a chat with the manager. He told me to take more care. He wanted to explain to me why it was happening.
"I was picking up yellow cards in pretty much every game, but I've only been booked once in the last eleven games. To be fair, of the 13 I've had, when we looked at the videos five were not bookings."
The midfielder has jumped to the defence of under-fire Chelsea opponent Didier Drogba for his Barcelona rant.
He added: "I know his reaction wasn't a good example for kids, but I understand where he was coming from. Sometimes I can lose it a bit, but I try to keep a lid on it. I have no worries about Chelsea targeting me."
