ANGRY Manchester United fans hurled bottles and sprayed beer at the Old Trafford entrance in protest over the newly-crowned champions' treatment of Carlos Tevez.

Liverpool are ready to make a stunning £22million bid after the Argentine admitted in an exclusive News of the World interview that he is being forced to quit United.

And after yesterday's goalless draw against Arsenal which clinched a record-equalling 18th title, hundreds of fuming fans laid siege to the directors' glass entrance, chanting: "Fergie, Fergie, sign him up."

Tearful Tevez appeared to be saying farewell to the fans when he was substituted in the second half, waving to each corner of the ground.

And he declared: "It was a very emotional day for me. I like the fans, thank you."

And when asked if this was goodbye he admitted: "Maybe, goodbye. It is very difficult for me to stay at Manchester United."

CAREER HIGH - Carlos Tevez
CAREER HIGH - Carlos Tevez

Earlier, speaking on Argentine TV station TYC he insisted: "I am not going to continue at Manchester United. I feel I have been badly treated. When you don't agree with the manager in how the club is run... it's best I leave so as not to clash with Alex Ferguson and the directors."

Tevez is owned by a group of investors headed by Iranian businessman Kia Joorabchian.

The Argentine's loan deal expires at the end of the season and he insists United have not offered him a new one. Tevez added: "I've asked Kia not to speak to me about offers during the next 10 days. I want to concentrate on the final matches. Afterwards I've got a month to choose where to go."

But as United boss Fergie celebrated his 11th Premier League title he roared: "We want him to stay. The only reason I substituted him was that he was tired.

"Carlos has done well for us but the demands originally put to us were unrealistic. We have to be aware of the consequences of the credit crunch.

"It's no time to be careless about money. As far as Tevez is concerned, everybody would be best served by a willingness to compromise."

But the furious protests were still going strong at 5pm - more than TWO HOURS after the game had finished. Beer cans and plastic bottles were thrown at the entrance, which was also sprayed with booze.

One disgruntled fan, Neil Cavanagh, from Leicestershire, said: "It's a disgrace. The kid is a hero, we fans want him to stay and the club ought to listen. We might have won the league today but we are in danger of losing one of our stars and it leaves a bad taste.

"You could tell how strongly everyone feels when he was substituted - everybody booed the decision and gave the lad a standing ovation.

"What's worse of all is that he's being linked with a move to Liverpool and that would be a nightmare. We can't let it happen. We are here to tell the board it must not happen."

If you ask me, the majority of you are disrespectful, bumbling idiots who barely share a brain cell.

I really wish fans could just get along. I am a liverpool fan, and we really didn't deserve the league after throwing so many points away...but utd didn't win it by much...so they threw a lot away too.

At the current moment in time, and judging on form there is very little space between man u and liverpool...its just man u pipped it at the post.

I reckon liverpool lost it around christmas because the players aren't used to being on top, maybe couldn't handle the pressure. It sure won't happen again and I am totally looking forward to next season, as this season has been great from start to finish.

Also Tevez for L'pool please, he is everything kuyt is and more.

I don't think that SAF brought Tevez to United to stay for long. His aim was to avoid the repeat of the defeat ManU suffered at the hands of West Ham at Old Traford.

I am a United supporter , I love man utd since i was small child . Who love manutd know much Tevez$'s is a part in two -year successive of manutd , but also know that Fegie's dicisions are mostly correct . He used to sell Ruud van and Beckkham but the club still playing very well . For this reason , i think fegie let Tevez go is right , with 30 million pounds fegie can buy some value players for the club , so the fans should stop angry at Sir Alex . manutd is champions 4ever !!!

If he isn´t he should be out the door by now..Next year no Tevez or Ronaldo and Vidic on the way to the best attacking side in the world...Barca! 2010 looking grim. Make the most of the league win. I see no reason why SAF should not sign Tevez a plyer who have actually proved his worth to the club and has contributed immensely towards the past two premireship trophies. Tevez deserved to be be signed for a fee of not less than 30million. if we can pay for other players for such kind of huge sums of money then why is SAF looking very nasty on a player who is willing to give all his best for the club. we are contributing in our own way to keep the club going and i think the club management needs to listen to us and we can never forgive the board and SAF if they fail to sign Tevez. i think the only option is to negotiate with Kia for a fee that will seal the deal. Tyevez is an asset for this club.

SAF have you forgotton on the stance you have taken on the Ronaldo's transfer saga to Madrid whose future with the club still hangs in balance? when Ronaldo threatens to leave what didn't you do to convinced him not to leave? look how disrespectful he has been in disrespecting one of the officials of the club in just substituting him from the mancity game. How many times have tevez played this season compared to the way Ronaldo have played? How many times have Tevez been substituted compared to Ronaldo? SAF please be fair enough in the way you treat the players.

By Abdul Aziz Sahid Kamara. Posted May 17 2009 at 4:47 PM.

O.K Teves has scored some vital goals for us and can run all day long. The thing I don't like about him is that he feels he should play every game and never be subbed. As we all know, in todays game, and this is especially true of United, Look at the number of games we now play over a season. Rotation is a must to keep everyone fresh. But master Teves is upset when he gets the call to come off and gestures to the stands as if to say "look they are taking me off again, do something about it guys". even after all the success he has shared with the team over his two years with United he appears to sulk like a little baby on not getting the time HE thinks he deserves. Let the cry baby go. United don't need this sort of player. The club is and always have been much bigger than ANY single player.

By Rick Lorne. Posted May 17 2009 at 4:41 PM.

a lot off these comments are unecessary to the fact tevez could be leaving this amazing club.
as a Manchester United fan from Manchester itself, i think if money is the problem then sell Berbatov in order to purchase Tevez, berba was a bit of a waste and is only played more than tevez because Alex Ferguson knew what was going to happen and didnt want Berba to lack experiance on his first season and the squad for next year.
remember Ronaldo wasnt consistantly playing when he first joint the club, now alex has made his what he is.
the fans shouldnt have thrown beer all over the stadium, because its still disrepect of the club, shame. But i think United should Purchase Tevez and then maybe he will be given the opertunity to play more cause he isnt just a part timer on loan.
God Bless United.

I am getting fed up of Tevez. This is DISRESPECTFULL to the team 10 days before the EC final. No player should "rock the boat" like he is doing. You want a gauranteed start at United, it won't happen! You have a choice, small fish in a big pond, or a big fish in a small pond. If they want high 20 million pounds for him United are right to walk away, 15million tops.

By Ray a Manc in the USA. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:58 PM.

The Tevez situation is as pathetic, as it is delicate. However, I believe SAF will make decisions based on the long term interest of Man U and not on emotions.

To start with Tevez was one of the reasons why Man U had to compete with Man City to splash an unjustified cash for the purchase of Berbatov. SAF had priced Berbatov, and was not to be moved. But at the start of the league season, Ronaldo was injured and the goals were not being banged in by the attackers, including Tevez. Thus, the fans and the media pressurised SAF to look elsewhere for someone who will complete the party. That money spent on the Berbatov deal could have been easily used to settle the controversial tevez deal, if he had proved his worth initially. The difference between the two deals is that Berbatov's is a done deal, and thus SAF has to justify the expenditure by playing him, unlike the Tevez deal which was to be completed based upon the goals, repeat, the goals, he was expected to bring into team. Unfortunately, he did not live up to expectations.

As a Man U fan, I appreciate Tevez's work rate, but if he thinks going to Liverpool is the answer to his problems, good luck to him. My only advice to him will be, play to satify the gaffer, and not the fans. For in Raffa Benitez, he will find a manger who can subsitite a player for being too passionate. (Ask Steven G).

By Saidu Kaye. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:38 PM.

If Tevez is so desperate to stay with MU then why doesn't he break his contract with Kia who is the real cause of the problem? He is more devoted to this man than the club. Also, criticizing the club management is not the way to endear himself to the club. Yes, he should stay but were are his loyalties - club or Kia???

Tevez isnt worth the hassle. Berbatov is the superior player. Id like to see someone like Higuin signed to replace tevez - if any striker.

By Leo. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:16 PM.

I'm ashameed of the fans reaction to the Tevez saga.

Yes he is a good player. He is not world class, he has an awful first touch, dreadful. For the kind of player he is, his goals and assists ratio per appearance is not great - especially when a lot of those appearances have been against 'lesser' clubs.

Throughout this season he has continually done interviews with Argetine papers, often timed to coincide with big games.

Believes he should start every game, demands chances, yet when given them doesn't produce like yesterday.

Every time he is taken off, such as yesterday after a lacklustre performance, he shakes his head in a way that if I was Fergie I'd want to knock it off!

If any other player did this they would be crucified.

Being at the game yesterday it was clear Carlos Tevez was only interested in the Tevez show. His celebrations were largely seperate to that of the team.

The fans behaivour when Fergie was doing his end of season speach to chant 'sign him up' and shout over Fergie is nothing short of disrespectful. Added to the booing when Tevez was rightly substituted and we could have been at the Emirates with their 'neuvo soccer' fans.

So because I, and many others, don't drink so much nor shout so loud as a lot of the out of town idiots, don't think we've all been taken in by the busy one.

Good player, runs around alot, but not worth what HE and his keeper are demanding. Take the act to the next town now guys.

By Season ticket holder going to Rome. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:46 PM.

all of you know, tevez has scored these crucial goals by coming off the bench, 'lyon, wigan etc' and he is most effective coming off the bench, but he doesn't want to be a supersub, when that is what he is! Come on united fans support your team, not that dwarf!
You ask yourself, who would you have come off the bench with 20 mins to go and united 1-0 down..........tevez!

By tony. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:27 PM.

Liverpool have more non-Merseyside based support in England than any other club yet they (and the BBC) regularly slate United fans for coming from outside Manchester and are always allowed to get away with it. Also I would suggest Paul and his chums seek medical attention. For a club so obviously superior Liverpool have a support with an inferiority complex a mile wide. Their obsession with 'class', for example, can only be rooted in the suspicion that they have none - in which regard they are right. Nothing on LFC website so far to congratulate the Champions (unlike United in previous years). How classy is that?

By Jack Gibson. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:31 PM.

Fender, at last , a voice of sanity in the wilderness. I too have never understood the hype over Tevez. Yes, he runs around a lot (so does Fletcher and Park), yes, he has had goals and assists this year (not as many as Berbatov) but he just doesn't look the full package to me. I agree, despite all of the negative remarks against him, Berbatov was an inspired signing along the lines of Cantona in the last great Utd team. He holds the ball well, distributes and has pace (when he needs it). I think the three young strikers we have in the wings, Campbell, Wellbeck and Macheda can play alongside Ronnie, Roonie and Berba and play far better next year with a greater winning margin. Let Tevez go, save the money and lets move on.

By Eric. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:42 PM.

Liverpool fans, lean in closer to listen; a few years ago a survey in the west end found that 23% of all man U fans walking past lived in London. The figure for Liverpool? 27%! As a Londoner I can confirm there are at least as many 'Pool fans here as Unted, so factor that into your talk of plastics. And as for talking about class - Liverpool have a very strong sense of history, however this translates to them frever banging on about what they've won in the pst. NON. BLOODY. STOP. you'd think they'd struggle to mention anything after three (3) potless seasons, but still find something to boast about. Very classy, I'm sure!I don't support United, just common sense - and if you can think of any 'Pool players who'd make the Utd first 11 other than SG and FT you don't have muc sense.

By Rodrigo. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:52 AM.

Can we please end this disgraceful slagging off of players. I have been watching MU play for 45 years and have loved some players style more than others, but all great players are different ie Best Law Charlton Beckham Kean.Tevez great player amazing energy but not quickest in looking up and finding fellow players. Bergatov not as quick as Tevez but stronger can hold backs off, better passer of the ball. a team needs a mix. other players have come to MU and had to be happy with rotation. A few years ago people thought Ronaldo should go, comments like, never passes the, greedy, runs into players loses it,dives. Some fans have very short memories, they really have very closed minds because they can only see their fav on pitch. to those fans try and be open minded, we have so many great players in the PL all doing different things that makes football fantastic to watch week in week out. for those going on about Tevez move on it wont be the end of MU if he goes, new players come, makes football exciting, we cant all play like R, Ron, Tev.

As a Liverpool fan i have no problem with congratulating Man U on winning the title, you gained the most points over the season after all though didn't manage to take any points off us either home or away.
It's a pity a lot of the Man U fans are classless idiots though. You are right of course, you do have something in common with Chelsea. Both clubs are loved by their fans only and despised by everyone else due to their lack of class or humility.
Tevez has got you a few important goals earning some important points lately and loads of you are still dismissing him as average. Probably the same people who vacated Old Trafford as our 3rd went in earlier in the season.
YNWA was written for carousel not as a hymn, don't believe everything you read on Wiki. It seems you are bitter that we have a song synonamous with our club, what do you have? Not much, everyone too busy tucking into sandwiches to sing.
I hope we do sign Tevez, he will be at a club who have togetherness and whose fans will treat him with respect unlike the fickle shower who deem to "support" him at the moment.

By Anthony Scicluna. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:42 AM.

tevez sets dangerous precedent. whoever pays for him is money that goes out the game and to tevez and his agent. if all players follow this path the game is broken. how much did west ham make from man u for him? since he is independent (outside of club) he should be cheaper not more expensive. 30m/18m is a waste of money. as i understand it man u will get nothing. given west ham, man u have made his reputation it is wrong they get nothing. greedy average player

By john sebastian. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:57 AM.

to all the so called utd fans who say TEVEZ is not worth £30 million you all must be crazy. we paid £30 million to spurs for a thougherbred in berbatov, look wat we got, a donkey who wouldnt look out of place on blackpool beach. every game tevez plays he gives 110%, fair enough he might not score loads of goals, but his overall workrate warrants the fee being asked by his agent. so fergie, get the cheque book out and get carlos signed up on a 5 year contract. pleeeeeeease

By MICKY SANDERSON. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:50 AM.

Fergie has alluded to the problem using the word 'credit crunch'. United cannot afford to pay 32 mill and his wages. They are up to their eyes in debt thanks to those idiots who own them. They need to win the PL and European Cup simply to pay the interest which is about to be renegotiated probably with less favourable terms. I doubt if Liverpool could afford him so that leaves only one club who have no debt Manchester City!!! Enjoy it United Tevez is a Blue. I don't think that United will go bust but with the downgrading of PL team values by between 10 and 20 percent this year their debt to asset ratio is far too much to bear, they will be forced to sell matbe Ronaldo simply to pay the wages and interest. The Golden era is over. There are new kids in town and the wear the Blue of Manchester (and Abu Dhabi) not the Red of the USA!!!!!

By john ward. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:46 AM.

i think you'll find, you'll never walk alone was an old hymn. And it was first sang at old trafford in the 1950s i believe however not to much following. Celtic made there own version and Liverpool made their own version too. Wrong to say Man U started You'll never walk alone, however Liverpool didnt start it either.

Youll never walk alone was originally sang by mufc fact look it op on wikipedia its true we just chose not to sing it any more 40 trophys pray tell.
When are the dippers going to win the premiership ,the dipers match today is meaningless.chelsea are second best to mufc.
Chelsea have style like mufc the dippers will be nothing with out gerrard and lucky goals.
Thats why were gunning you down the title will be ours next year as well anf the year after and so on and if not us arsenal and chelsea and even city with there billions might just get the plyers and make a real assult.
Dippers do your self a favour and dont comment on the champs site, you bitter and twisted thats why your just not liked by nearly every team, and it was the dippers who caused all english teams to be banned from europe for a very long time do you think english teams will forget that not a chance you disliked in europe too, hysel comes to mind.

Rouse wake up and smell the coffee, so what if Liverpool have still won more cups, its been such along time since you have won anything (apart from the lucky Champions League a few years back) the history books have been re-written to say a small club from Liverpool WERE the best team in England a long long time ago. Liverpool are still living in the 80's and need to snap out of it. The only two players ye have are Gerrard and Torres and when they dont play ye are c**p and more than likely lose or draw, thats why ye lost the league and will continue to lose the league, Benitez is a useless judge of talent, its just aswell Gerrard was there when he came and I seem to remember he tried to get rid of him at the start. Rouse go back to sleep and keep dreaming!

So how about Sir Alex sells Ronaldo so he can buy Tevez and keep the fans happy? 'Oh hold on a minute, you can't do that! We want both!' Money is no object when it's not your money, so back off and let Sir Al run the club. After all, he's not doing too badly at it is he?

I'm a united fan and dissapointed, carlos tevez has been in england 3 years and my 3 year old can put together words in english better than tevez, how do you build team harmony with someone who you cannot have a conversation with?
Let him go, where was he in the fA cup semi? he played more than 90 mins!
He may be a good player but not worth 30 million, more like 15 million. He has had his time, in my eyes he's another diego forlan!
I would prefer Martins or Drogba or Benzema, come on fergie, come on united, leave tevez out of cl final.
