ROBIN VAN PERSIE DEADLOCK

Dutch striker stalls on new deal at Arsenal

ROBIN VAN PERSIE - no deal
ROBIN VAN PERSIE - no deal

ROBIN VAN PERSIE'S talks over a new Arsenal deal remain deadlocked and if the situation is not resolved soon the club may cash in this summer.

A £70,000-a-week, four-year offer has been on the table for six months but Van Persie has continued to stall.

The offer doubles his pay but I understand the 25-year-old Dutchman's advisor have been pushing for a deal closer to £90,000-a-week.

Incredibly, they also want a get out clause should Arsenal receive an offer of more than 5million euros from a foreign club.

Arsenal have kicked out that proposal but could lose Van Persie for nothing if he opts to run down the final year of his contract - just as Mathieu Flamini did last season.

That is why the cub will have to consider any offers tabled this summer for a player they signed for £3m from Feyenoord five years ago.

With only one year left on his deal, they would do well to get £8m for him.

I don't think selling Persie is a solution to the problem the club has instead, they should sell a lazy adebayor and strengthen Persie with another powerful striker since Eduardo is in injury.

SELL HIM!!! Tevez is available and is strong and also most importantly, inspires the rest of the team. That is what is lacking @ Arensal!

By carlostraveller.. Posted May 19 2009 at 12:41 AM.

Give RVP a chance, we all know he is injury prone but when on form, know one want to hear of another striker. Lets just get another player whose blends well in his absence, its not the skill at united that brings trophies, its the balance in the squad. Most importantly now is to work on the defence issue, we need experience but not the Sylver or Gall type, I wont suggest but i agree with guys on bringing Hange from Fulham.

By Ndawula in Naguru-Kampala- Uganda.. Posted May 18 2009 at 7:05 AM.

I think that VP has reached his peak.Need to replace him with a much stronger striker.

By ME.. Posted May 18 2009 at 1:48 AM.

guys have u all gone nuts!!!? if u realise we still have the likes of eduardo and rosicky who basically never featured this season!! we don't need attacking players at all...juz need to sharpen their finishing and thy've got the whole pre-season for tht....all we need is a powerhouse in the central mid to let FAB have his normal excellent game and a world class defender....all 3 top teams in the epl have essien, carrick and alonso....we need ours and its about time!!!! yaya would be perfect...and probably sum1 who would give almunia some competition...fabianski still needs time......

p.s. dun any1 ever think of selling RvP....forgot the games against chelsea and liverpool...will ade give u goals like tht?????

By gunner for life.. Posted May 18 2009 at 12:03 AM.

u lot r nuts!!!!! sell ade hes 2 lazy and def can read him like a book. buy yaya toure hes the new veira we ave never replaced, benzema 2 partner rvp, a decent old dogged english def like adams and terry. and we need the russian and amercains money to compete at the top. and all u mugs who think wenger should go then go and join the rest of the glory hunters at utd. The board are to blame not wenger, david dein was the heart of arsenal and they ripped it out when they forced him out.

By richard.. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:40 PM.

Arsenal do need rvp to stay & he should take the £70k per wk on offer (as i don't think he has earned the right to demand more yet!!) although i can understand why he wants until he commits as we we need to invest in some money new experienced players in the summer before we challenge for honours - we need a strong spine to the team with a bit of muscle....like yara toure in midfield would be right up our street (if we can prise him away from barca!!) we also need a couple of meat head centre backs in the vidic type mould who are defenders 1st & fancy footballers 2nd!! sell adebayor for the £20-30m that has been branded about as that would be excellent business on our part & buy a quick out & out striker like torres (ie david villa) i think we need to spend about £70m to be a major force next season!!

By matt.. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:06 PM.

Let him go - when was the last season he played 50% of the fixtures - very injury prone!!Go for Tevez - tough as nails...

By Gab.. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:57 PM.

are you guys mad rvp is our best striker. adebayor is rubbish bendtner cant finish but he is an alright passer,. we shud put rvp left mid arshavin left striker nd get a decent striker like villa. nd we need a deefnsive midefielder like yaya toure. nd a defender to help toure out if gallas leaves which he oviously will but rvp aint goin defonetly not going i dont care!!!!!!!!!!

By jj.. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:56 PM.

keep him but his demands are too high he should prove himself first that he is a good striker too many injuries.

By Zuma.. Posted May 17 2009 at 7:50 PM.

I'm a Liverpool supporter, we'd be happy to swap him for Ryan Babel, to play on our left wing, if you want. He's got lots of potential, he'd be right up your alley.

By Farradin.. Posted May 17 2009 at 7:07 PM.

All we want is for the team to be able to compete with the guys ahead of us firepower up front is not the issue what we need are defensive midfielders and worldclass defenders personally i think we should maintain the squad we have and improve not sell maybe loan a few

Easy to run a football team from the sofa. Unless there is much more finance made available to the Gunners, they will be playing catch up for the forseeable future, even with the prospect of the younger players maturing. It is worth noting so many players who departed from Arsenal have failed to impress in the same way. Herbert Chapman invented the stopper centre half, and no matter what style of play is adopted a true Centre Half is essential. Football is now a business and clubs either join in or they will be squeezed out.No question that on their day Arsenal are the most attractive side to watch. Having followed the fortunes of the Gunners for 55 years, it would be justice for them to get rewarded for the 'art' M. Wenger brings to the field

Im a man u fan(sorry)i no i shouldnot be here(lol) aresenal ar my second fav team and it hurts me to c what is going on with them..just been reading all of ur comments and just to say
1.rvpersie- this is arsnls quality players -quality- along with arshavin,nasri(1foot in the door),players that have it in the bag.that can change a game by themselves.theo needs to improve.denilson is played a lot of games dnt know if its having the desired effect i dnt think its fair on him.denilson v balck lampard essien?
Adebayor is a gd plyr nt a wrld clss plyr..a player shud b able to show up in big games did u see him against manu?nonexistent..he does well against the lesser teams..but u cant take adebayor to war.get rid of him and bring in benzema to partner rvp..get a defmid 2 cntre back (silvstre(who?) and toure is good at readin on the ground aerially hes goin to get bullied in the league all day long..so get someone 2 compliment him.

By alixander.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:59 PM.

Selling RVP after all the talk of bringing in quality would be ridiculous. The man is sheer quality, so he should stay. We need 3 players only and those are: Matthew Upson (West Ham) and Brede Hangeland (Fulham) as central defenders + Yaya Toure as defensive midfield and that's all. Those 3 will add a lot of physical presence and the defensive stability, which we need right now.

By John.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:58 PM.

Iam very sorry to here bad news like that .ida,t think that RVP will leave the club.
please Wenger dan,t make that mistake to late him leave the club.

I cant believe there is so many ppl being harsh on RVP!!He has done alot this season and has been doing it as a lone striker which i feel isnt his best position.I have also heard that wenger is only gettin 13m to spend this summer. That is no where near enough til improve our squad n even if we do sell adebayor n gallas we still miten have enough money til make us compete at the top again.A couple of centre halfs n centre midfielders are required!!Chellini at juve upson or hangiland i tink sud def be looked at.Alonso barry n toure yaya also.We need 4 of those 6 and if we got owen on the free and if sum how we found cash til get david villa our SQUAD wud be brilliant.Villa is the best striker in the world n wud form an amazing partnership wif RVP!!Please give Arsene money and please spend it otherwise there will be no trophies next year!!

By Ricky Dobbs.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:22 PM.

Give him the contract he desires and then sell. We need to avoid anoth flamini situation whilst offloading a player who has failed to deliver. His injuries have disrupted the settlement of the team. With Arshavin, Eduardo, Vela, Walcott, Bendtner we have too much attacking potential. Use the money to strengthen the back or midfield. Note I've already assumed Adebayor has been sold.

By Kevin.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:25 PM.

He should be playing on the wing! never as a forward, Arshavin is a better finisher than him! sign him then sell him!

By FUGAYZI.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:03 PM.

He is a gud player 2 gud 2 lose ryt now.ade cld go bt nt him.he is our only hope when it comes 2 playing free kicks & there ase jst few players in d world with is kind of power behind d shoot with is precision.AW should talk 2 him make him bliv in d team again.he'll stay.a gunner til i die.IN ARSENE WE TRUST.

Sell RVP, take whatever you can get, he could have been an Arsenal legend, but there is really something missing in his "make up".

I mean there is something missing in his personality, not the make up he may wear.

By RayRamone.. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:03 PM.

plse plse plse mr wenger we arsenal supporters from nigeria want u 2 sell rvp and come 2 nigeria with 2millinn pounds only u will get a better players than robyn bse is only playing for himself not for arsenallllllllllllllllllllll get rid off him now .ARSENAL SUPPORTERS ASSOCIATION IN LAGOS NIGERIA. PLSE PROF KINDLY U READ MY MESSAGE THANKS . GOONERS FOR LIFE

By jojo.. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:58 PM.

RVP is a very good player indeed.

However, I disagree with Wenger where 'world class' is concerned. If RVP wants that designation he must:
i. Make the keeper make a save on 70% of his free kicks - too many into the wall or high and handsome.
ii. Retain his brilliant spells more consistently - his goals at Everton, against Liverpool and Chelsea were world class. Lots more of that please!
iii. Score 20+ goals for 3 successive seasons.
iv. Be better integrated with his team-mates in terms of fluidity, flexibility and mobility.

I'd say Arsenal's current offer is right - but offer him some incentives to increase it. Like winning the title. Or winning the Champions League.

By Rhys Jaggar.. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:10 PM.

you lot are idiots...sell rvp..you must be backward.he is quality, just needs someone decent to partner him..get rid of adebayor

By darren hopkins.. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:08 PM.

i cannot believe that flopster was even offered 70k a week, i wouldn't even borrow him 35k a year, he should be on civil service wages. maybe we should put a petition to Fifa that hitting the woodwork twice or more should be counted as a goal!!
he is so useless, he will need to use a search engine to know what a goal looks like!!

By D53.. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:12 PM.

what has he given to Arsenal this year?? HE has been our most consistent performer. He carried the team from december to february all by himself. he is our top goalscorer and he scores quality goals, unlike adebayor who relies on the good work of his team mates. arsene should have sold adebayor last summer and used the cash appropriately

By ZED.. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:34 PM.

As a season ticket holder who also travels to a good many away games domestically and Europe, I can say with some justification that Van Persie is our most influential player, more so than Fabregras. The comments on this article in support of letting him go are ridiculous and misguided. I support the clubs policy of offering contracts only within their framework, yet the club has paid Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry 6 figure salaries and obscene as £90K a week seems to most people, in football circles a player of his quality surely merits being in the bracket. Arsenal really must not let their moral high ground position to cloud their judgement with another key player: whatever it takes, Ivan Glazidis, you must re-sign Van Persie.

And Gooners, GET BEHIND THE TEAM. If in doubt, remember the paucity we use to watch only 15 years ago; it was truly awful. Be grateful for the vision the club has and is displaying and keep the faith. Arsenal is for life, not just for 1998/2006.

By Filthypunk.. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:20 PM.

wenger should sell ade n rvp, delaying will only let their prices drop.. we could buy martins from newcastle wen they r relegated.. and also a strong defender.. wheater or hangeland..

By shijil.. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:49 PM.

Am surprised RVP is reecting 70k per week. Pls prof., if he doesn't want to stay let him go and go for Dzeko.

Defensive mdfielder-we need Yaya Toure, central defence-Gary Cahil from Bolton or Matthew Upson.

Professor, think wisely now before it becomes too late for you and the club.

By Omo.. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:30 PM.

I really hope that Adebayor goes - can't stand that mercenary. I'm undecided on RVP. He's got an awesome left foot but he's often injured, weak and doesn't have great pace. I'd really like to see Arsenal develop Eduardo and Bendtner, move Arsharvin up as a striker/playmaker and maybe sign another good winger. Perhaps even Downing on the left. Walcott, Nasri are looking like really good players, Rosicky is coming back, Vela looks promising - there's plenty to be positive about. I'd like Arsenal to sign a solid centre half to partner Toure and a rugged midfielder, a dog in midfield.

By andy.. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:43 PM.

I'm praying that we get Santa Cruz too!

By andy.. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:46 PM.

Truely, i wouldnt advice Wenger to sell RVP... He cud sell Adebayor who earns as much as 80k pounds without delivery( no skills, no intelligence, one on one = 0), then loan out players like bendtner, diaby , denilson..
If his unable to buy a centre bck, then Wenger shud convert Song to that position and gets a player like Lucho from PORTO for that Position..
Well, for 9 Wenger shud go for Benzema, someone fast and highly skilled just like torres...
PLS and Pls, tell Walcot to go and watch ryan giggs tape when he was coming... Thanx

By Eze Ife.. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:01 PM.

I don't believe RVP is holding out for 90k it's just the media hiking this up! I belive he is stalling cos he want's Wenger to buy quality players before comitting his long term future! He is ambitious just like henry was! but look wenger did not buy players and henry left! This is all Wengers stupid policies fault! We would not lose good players if he spent money on quality cos quality players want to win trophies!!!! Get rid of Wenger not the ambitious players!

By Peter.. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:03 PM.

2 things i remember about RVP, the wonder goal he scored during the Henry era against Man united when he breake his foot taking the shot and 2) being on a sick note ever since. Our dead ball specialist! He'd not take a free kick in many-a-decent side in the premiership. Often disagree when Wenger lets players go, but on this occasion, totally agree if the guys demanding 90K. C'mmon, Martins of Newcastle comes up with wonder goals possibly more often as all his goals are something special but more important he is a team player and grafter, but wouldnt demand 90k weekly. He is not as injury prone and shoots when half a chance presents itself, therefore, for RVPs quality, not worth it, let him go prof. Yes, I am saying in that instance Id opt for Martins! Some players suppose Arsenal is a soft touch, maybe Wenger should exercise some ruthlessness. Imagine RVP approaching Fergie or Benitez with similar demands with his contribution in the last few years.

U lot r not arsenal fans at all, ow can u sit der and say goodbye rvp afta all he has dne 4 us! we shod stik wiv wot we r offerin until he agrees bt yeah i agree da 'mercenary' adebayor needs 2 go purely because of his disloyalty and silvestre 4 his snide comments about arsenal b4 da champions league game against man u!!! u lot need 2 av faith in arsene and arsenal dis is no crisis at all jus a rough patch n we will get bk on trak soon jus keep da faith!!! By KeZ.. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:42 AM.

Van Persie will sign, the media just need cause a stir.
Looking at these posts, I don´t understand why everyone is so critical.. Van persie contributed 18 goals
in 37 starts this season and I think he has something
like 9 or 10 assists, In feb he scored or created every goal that Arsenal scored. SO why the criticism?
he is not a striker, but a support striker like bergkamp used to be. (if you look at bergkamp´s stats he didn´t score that many) but there is no doubt what a legend he is! The problem is arsenal need a front man RVP can work with. Ade needs to go, his heart is in milan.

By maarten.. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:45 AM.

Van Persie is a good player 4 holland but not 4 arsenal.Weak ,moany, lack of commitment in the tough away games.Get rid with his strike partner so we can buy some real strikers

By david cummins.. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:45 AM.

sell RVP??? you guys are clueless, freaking clueless. bendtner better?? i'm not talking about goals alone, go and watch every arsenal game this season and watch every touch RVP and bendter makes. then tell me sell RVP ... clueless!

By DQ.. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:40 AM.

My advice: Sell van Persie. The only one who is happy with him is Mr. van Persie personal.
He is unable to lead a team.

sell ade , sell bendtner , sell rvp
get 3 world class players , a centre half , centre mid , and a quality strker to help arsh and theo

Take the cash and run, RVP is overrated.5 years and he has scored an average of 10 prem goals a season and alaways carries a sick note in his back pocket yet has the guts to demand over 70K/week. Arsenal needs a complete overhaul, we need players who can produce, talk is cheap! Sell him, Gallas, ebuwe, Kolo (Man city will pay £15m for him, good attitude but no more room for improvement), Diaby, Denelson, Bendtner (at least loan him to a euro club). Get Hangerland, Mexes, Taiwo, Bassong (defense) Yaya for midfield and for strikers get Dzeko, Demba Ba and K Jones/Oba Martins. All these players will accept 70k or less and are proven grafters.

By Rhodes Matland.. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:58 AM.

Get rid of this boy, Vela ,bendtner, Eduardo will then have chances of winning us trophies.

Professor - just cash in!

Who on earth would give 70K to RVP??? - Then Walcott needs 140K - yet he accepted 60K!

By mathaf.. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:05 AM.

By Victor.. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:36 AM.

Sell RVP and Ade. Buy Dzeko. His finishing is deadly, especially his headers. With Arshavin's pin point crosses, Dzeko would score every freakin game

Van Persie should be ashamed to stall on Arsenal's
offer ,after all the patience they had with him, always getting injured on international duties.
What has he given to Arsenal this year?? Nothing.
But I am sure behind this move there is a certain
Flamini.
These are all the players Wenger defended every week during their stay at Arsenal ,and now they are repaying him for all the faith he put in them.Flamini,Hleb,Henry and now Van Persie.
Wenger you are too soft.

By Don.. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:52 AM.

Laters Robin - We already have enough forwards and him leaving wont make an ounce of difference, just means that Arshavin,Bendtner, Eduardo and Vela will be the main ones after Ade goes as well.

Stalling on 70k - my god there are thousands out of work in this country and others that dont even earn that in 2/3 years.....I hate greedy footballers.

By Sue.. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:27 AM.

Please sell him off. he always get injured and still demand for more pay with a stupid clause. let any player who is not ready to play is heart out for arsenal leave.

By Snave.. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:10 AM.

70k far too much. He will push seat prices further up. Sell him and Ade and buy one quality forward to link up with Bendtner, Arshavin and Eduardo

By skins.. Posted May 17 2009 at 7:43 AM.

Despite Robins great skills and finishing he is overwhelmingly inconsistent. He cannot play as a left winger therefore questioning how cutting edge he is as an out and out striker and the need for him in the squad.
If i was manager i would look to sell him and line up a better finisher/positional player and give Eduardo and Bendtner a run along side Arshavin.
Ade must go too....no cutting edge when it matters consistently enough. I hope AW pulls it together we are just 3 or 4 players short....

By n london gooner.. Posted May 17 2009 at 7:17 AM.

He'd be great at liverpool. Sign him up Rafa.

By Lee.. Posted May 17 2009 at 6:53 AM.

time to change the two strikers there not producing anything and all they do is winge three top class players should come in and show the younger kids what is need they go missing too much but there is promise in them bring back the defence of the ninties and true goal scorer and a strong midfielder

By stephen.. Posted May 17 2009 at 6:11 AM.

Every manager should look at Owen - Is it really worth having a player who is injured so frequently, therefore depleting the squad?

The 'we have so many players out injured' saying wears thin when some of them are so injury prone in the first place.

By jon ward.. Posted May 17 2009 at 6:14 AM.

70k a week for rvp is actually 105k a week as he injured half the time. dont think he should pe paid a penny more

By ..|... Posted May 17 2009 at 4:42 AM.

Sell him in the summer along with Adebayor. None have produced this year. Van Persie attitude is reflecting in the number of yellow cards he is receiving. For a striker his direction is terrible and his right foot contribution is negative. With the money buy Frank Ribery who would make a perfect playing partner for Arshavin and Walcott. Hope we produce next year !

By John.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:11 AM.

get rid. slows the play down gettin everthing onto the 1 foot that he has. injury prone. big ego, doesnt do it against the big teams in the big matches . greedy and the most overated player i.ve ever seen. get 15 mill and we are laughunnn

By mm.. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:17 AM.

Robin (when fit) is a class finisher and we would be foolish to let him walk away! Without his goals this season would have been even worse! Don't be to quick to jump on his back because i'm sure you all will cheer when he scores! Pathetic!

By scott.. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:50 AM.

sell him

By mike.. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:41 AM.

Sell him Wenger. He is a talented lad, but he does not produce, he does not fit in as a lone striker, a link up player or in a partnership and his attitude stinks.

Eduardo and Bendtner are better than he and Adebayor, we could sign one more top quality striker with the funds that those two sales would give us.

By Chris.. Posted May 16 2009 at 11:44 PM.

cya later robin!

your one footed and overrated.

for that money a week we could get a striker than can score 20 plus a season.
its funny that since you have been in the side that we have won naff all
