CARLOS TEVEZ EXCLUSIVE

I don't deserve to be treated this way

AS his Manchester United team-mates danced with joy across the Emirates turf, Carlos Tevez celebrated alongside them.

But behind the smiles was anguish. Because joy for a return to the Champions League final was tempered by a sadness that this was one of the last moments of real pleasure he would share with his United brothers.

It had been coming for months. Frustrated and disappointed at the way he has been treated, Tevez now knows he has to quit.

And in a remarkable Sport of the World interview, the Argentinian pulls no punches, laying bare the facts about his two-year United tenure. His revelations will stun Old Trafford on the morning of today's Manchester derby and with United still chasing an unprecedented quadruple.

Sir Alex Ferguson last week claimed he thinks of his players as part of his own family. But Tevez feels like an outsider. Twice South American Player of the Year, a national hero in Argentina, reduced to a bit-part, an afterthought.

"Me? I have not been treated as a member of the family," he said. "I do not feel wanted. I feel bad over my situation, I do, but it's very, very difficult to stay any longer. I guess what I'm saying is goodbye.

"I don't think I will be a Manchester United player next season. I have done everything I possibly can but they have never made me an offer or given me a contract so I have to leave. I don't think I deserve to be in this position but you realise if your time is up you have to go.

Realistically, my time is over and I think I will be at another club next season. It's very, very difficult to stay any longer, so I have to finish this season the best I can and move on.

"I still have the same hunger and I will give my all to win the last two trophies we are chasing so I can move on knowing I have done everything for the team.

"The fans treat me like family, but United have not signed me so they do not respect me as a footballer.

"It makes me feel good when Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick talk well about me but they are not the manager.I train very hard, play well and then I'm dumped. When I play I feel good, then when I don't I am upset.

"Things have changed dramatically this season. I was dropped - yet I didn't perform badly. Sir Alex never gave me an explanation but I never asked him for one because it is not in my character.

"I accepted it but maybe Sir Alex didn't feel the same way about me. Maybe he didn't have confidence in me any more."

Tevez has become frustrated this season at his lack of appearances. Despite being involved in more games than Rooney or Dimitar Berbatov, he has either started or finished on the bench an astonishing 27 times. He has been an unused substitute on 10 further occasions.

He has also been substituted 12 times in all competitions and has played the full 90 minutes in just 20 games, five of them in the Carling Cup.

He added: "I scored four goals against Blackburn in the Carling Cup but then got dropped for the next game.

"I came on and scored against Porto in the Champions League quarter-final but was dropped for the away leg. I scored two against Fulham and was dropped for the next game.

"Whether I come on and play well or whether I come on the pitch and play just OK, I know I am going to get dropped. It has a negative impact - your mentality is affected and you get demoralised."

Ferguson has had to juggle Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Berbatov and Tevez into just three forward places.

Tevez feels he has been the one who has missed out most. But he refused to be drawn into a slanging match over the £31.75million summer signing of Bulgarian striker Berbatov from Spurs. "It's not about Berbatov," he said. "People keep comparing me to Berbatov but it's not Berbatov's fault. It's just the way I've been treated I'm upset about.

"I played last season and was the second top scorer. We won the Champions League and the Premier League. I helped to achieve that success and then I was dumped for no real reason."

Tevez finished top scorer for his clubs in Argentina and Brazil, for his country at the Olympics and second for United behind Ronaldo last season.

He has still scored 13 goals this term, but explained: "I've started every game in the Carling Cup and some in the FA Cup but only a few in the League

"I'm disappointed not to get more games but it's been the choice of the coach.

"If I run my a*** off, if I score or don't score, I know that after 60 minutes I'm going to be taken off. If I don't start I know I am only going to get 15 or 20 minutes.

"I enjoyed playing with Rooney, Ronaldo and Berbatov. They are all excellent players.

"But this season I can only recall playing with Rooney up top about five times. It's not been like last year, when we played that formation a lot."

Tevez has been a fans' favourite since joining United on a two-year loan deal two years ago.

He hoped Ferguson would agree a deal with Kia Joorabchian to sign him permanently. But discussions have never taken place.

Tevez insisted: "When I played regularly last season I scored. I did everything I could but there was never any attempt to sign me permanently. United did not take up the option at the end of the first year and up until now I've never had any discussions about my contract.

"If ever there was a time to sign me it was at the end of last year but there was no effort to sign me.

"The major concentration was to sign other players and by January there was still nothing. They signed other players but still there was no bid for me.

"United have never offered me any contract. So I guess I have to finish the season the best I can and move on. The fans have been great with me, I love them. And every time I put the shirt on I fight for the club. I have done everything I possibly can at United but circumstances are forcing me to leave.

"I also want to make it very clear that it's not about money. I have read stories claiming I've asked for £6m, £9m and £12m. But I have never asked Sir Alex or David Gill for money.

"When I sign for another club if anyone says 'It was impossible for Carlos to sign for Man United because he was asking for £8m' it is not true."

Tevez also set the record straight about his family. He said: "It's not true my family are unhappy in England. It's not true I want to leave England for Spain. My four-year-old daughter Florencia is learning English and my wife is very happy living in England.

Accept

"We want to stay. I want to play in England because it is the best League in the world and it suits my style.

"Any club I join, whether it be Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool or Everton, will be a rival of Manchester United. I would like to thank the United fans for their support. They will always have a special place in my heart.

"If I was a United fan I wouldn't want to see their player in any other shirt but I think they will accept I've done everything I can."

Tevez's economic rights are owned by a group of investors headed by Joorabchian, who said: "There are a lot of Premier League clubs interested in Carlos but it would be unprofessional to start talking to them before the season has ended.

"There are also foreign clubs interested in him but since Carlos' preference is to stay here then that is the first place we have to look.

"We received a formal offer in January from a foreign club for a figure in excess of £40m, although out of respect for United we have not spoken to them yet.

"Carlos' final destination will be made solely on what's best for Carlos and his family."

For Tevez, the realisation that he has to walk out on United is painful. He concluded sadly: "I've given everything for United. I can leave with my head held high."

TO LEAVE UNITED FOR THE LOSERPOOL WOULD BE A MAJOR STEPDOWN BUT THEN AGAIN ANYWHERE ELSE WOULD BE... WHATEVER THE FUTURE MIGHT BE YOU WILL ALWAYS REMAIN IN OUR HEART CARLITO

Manu does not desvere a player like tevez. They are treating him like dirt. Tevez needs to sign for liverpool where he will be respected like every other player in the liverpool squad.

By amritpal singh.. Posted May 14 2009 at 7:36 PM.

El Apache is the real Apache Fighter. and he proved is last two games againgst City and wigan. MU sud understand a player not play only for money. he also wants respect. Fargie cud have deal Tevez with more respectful way. you can't judge a player like him by the numer of goals he scored. anyway, better late than never. MU sud open new negotiation with Kia Jobrachiam.

MU SUCKS

By DIEGO .. Posted May 12 2009 at 10:01 PM.

Frankly, I don't know the 'Real' reason why MU or SAF has not attempted to sign Tevez. There are many other reasons suggested by the many posts here, however I'd like to believe that the value of his worth is not one of them. How do anyone explain then why MU or SAF sign Bebatov for almost the same amount? Was it because he is more a MU player than Trevez? Could it be that MU has quite a lot of youngers in the lineup and there comes a time when one has to start playing them and as long as there are established players in the first 11, the youngers will find it hard to start. Sir Alex might just want to try out something he did a long time ago and surprise us all by playing youngers like he did many years ago during the Scoles, Butt, Neville brothers Beckham era before he pack up and go.
Nonetheless, I will be a sad MU fan of 60 years if Trevez has to go. May Trevez succeed in everything in his next endevour. God Bless

carlitos is a must in the team. Fergie, come on!!!! look what's on the bench

Carlos doesn't seem to be appreciated by SAF although he's a super talented player ... no point in trying any more.

He should definitely sign for Liverpool. He will love the club and the amazing LFC fans.

People should know that a River Plate fan in argentina, never will support Boca Juniors players. Well, Tevez is the only one accepted by everybody, more than Diego. He represents the true football worlwide. If you loose it you will realize very soon about the mistake made.

Carlos you are one of the best soccer players.
You've done your job.
I'm sure you'll succeed where you go.
And playing together with Messi at the Argentinean team...both of you -together- are unique.

By Lila.. Posted May 11 2009 at 10:59 PM.

Well, if Fergie does not want him must be for something. I think we have enough good players to win the League and the premiership. We don't need him and lets be honest, he is not the best player in the world. I wish more English players were as good as him though, we are doomed to play an awful role in the World Cup once again!

People loves you in anyplace you play, we are waiting for you at Boca Juniors, so why dont you come back home please? you are the best !

SELL BERBATOV because he is too lazy and sign TEVEZ

By YIA.. Posted May 11 2009 at 7:13 PM.

Tevez has prooved wat he can make, in argentina and more in brazil that for an argentinian player is very difficult to make a place and to be loved, he did it and more he had been nomed the best brazilian football player, and now in england too, there is just a few argentinian who has succeed there, he's loved by people and he has a very big heart and love for the jersey, we don't fine that in a lot of players.
Ok SAF has his strategy but you cannot put a player who's scoring four times in a game on the banch....it's against football codes... and there is certainly other's interest which are not in relation whith football.
come on carlito keep the head high because you have nothing to blame yourself.

I think Manchester is a great club and Ferguson is a great Manager. But nobody is perfect and people make mistakes.....Remember my words...if Tevez leaves ManU, ManU will not win any International Championship in a long period of tme.......players with the spirit and commitment of Tevez is very dificult to find !!!

By farhaan khan .. Posted May 11 2009 at 12:19 PM.

Tevez does not worth the money..he is good at running like haedless chicken and get tired after an hour thats why AF must substitute him. His first touch is one of the worst in the team, frequently give the ball away because of his poor first touch..let him go with 26mil we can get much better player.

By Leonard.. Posted May 11 2009 at 5:37 AM.

ManU should keep Tevez. He's talented, hot-blooded, compromised and professional, owns exquisite tecnique and style, among other virtues, so in other words...he's one of the best players on earth. But the most important thing is that he's an excelent human being. If he ends up playing for another club, ManU'll regret it, for sure. CARLITOS, PLAY YOUR GAME MAN, YOU'RE SUPER!!!!!!!!

By ManInBlack.. Posted May 11 2009 at 5:02 AM.

Sir Alex feels that Carlos is not worth a start in every week for his team, and if he comes as a sub he plays 15-20 min, this guy has a very high work rate and should be respected for that.lt is true there is plenty talent at United. The best thing for Tevez is to say (thank you and goodbye)l assure you a team as hungry for success as Tevez is hungry to play at the moment is Liverpool.Surelly he wont regret such a move. His workrate and talent we see him play regularly at Liverpool and his scoring prowess will undoubtedly improve. So come on join the reds Carlos.Rafa l beg you dont overlook this lad

By abbiboy.. Posted May 11 2009 at 1:27 AM.

tavez... u are outstanding.. ur the best and ur a living legend.. i can see a blessing light on u coz ur a perfect human being. dont worry abt SAF he is just doin his job.. mm sayin the truth everyone loves u frm the inner core of the heart.. ur too gud.. god bless u.. hope to see u in next club who knows ur value and ur hard work

By torres.. Posted May 10 2009 at 8:56 PM.

Man City grab Carlos and Alonso if you want a place in Europe. I'm sure Chelsea is working on this signing too. I'm a fan of EPL and I hope either of these two or even three other EPL teams will bid to keep Carlos in England. He is a jewel in the EPL scene.
Never mind Carlos, Sir Fergie or the Club management may have other issues to overcome which are not proper to be revealed. By not offering you a contract at the juncture may turn out to be just the break for your career! You can be an even bigger star with another EPL club.

By KL.. Posted May 10 2009 at 8:38 PM.

I would like to add, for all of you that give flowers to SAF, that ManU has a brillant present, but I think you forget about the past. He has been the manager of ManU for 20 years. 20 YEARS. He won his first Champions League in 98/99. How many Champions have won other teams in europe (like Milan, Real Madrid per say) in the last 20 years, with different coachs. And to be honest, i dont think you have chances against Barcelona this year.
I dont want Tevez to play the final, because if he makes a remarkable game no one will remember that on the next years. All credit will be given to SAF.

By Felipe.. Posted May 10 2009 at 6:03 PM.

Dear ¨john smith¨: when you say ¨i want to ask tevez this what have you won with other clubs¨ what do you mean? Why do you think Tevez is playing in ManU? Jesus...I cant believe that people like you has the gust to give an opinion about football. If you dont know about something, just dont talk about it. Tevez has won the local leagues back in Argentina and Brazil. He won the Continental Cup (Libertadores de America), which is like the Champions in Europe. He also won the Intercontinental Cup against AC Milan. Gold medal in the olympics, many wolrd championships in sub division of the argentina national team. All these being said, he is one of the FEW that won the continental cups in Europe and America. How old is he? 24. Not even Maradona has that achievement.

By Felipe.. Posted May 10 2009 at 5:31 PM.

Dr.Ed your comments are totally right, i agree with what your saying, carlos tevez is a world class player and his work rate is unrated but this season goal tally and no smiles on his face is down to low confidence and unhappiness through not speaking his mind to the boss but a contract should have been sorted... sir alex is the best manager in the world and surely he knows what he is doing but then again everyone is human and makes mistakes hope tevez does stay best wishes to him will be "missed" always if he does go, i think berbartov(toffee) has got great control of the ball but is totally useless at (workrate) running and retrieing the ball do you think berbatov could score a goal running at full pace? no no no no,good player but does not belong in a united shirt, to lazy! SELL BERBATOV KEEP TEVEZ! i think that if tevez did go lucas podolski would be the perfect player to take his place i don't think Wellbeck and Macheda are ready yet to fully step up,although the youngsters bring fresh styles of play!KIKA i think will be a great man.utd plyr in the future and the same for wellbeck! HOPE TEVEZ DOES STAY! but doubt it. giggs cound go for 1 more sesson easly, but sir alex knows wot is best for utd, hope tevez is not like another larsson, the 1 who got away.roony and tevez r amazing partners! rooney has been patient why can`t tevez but its dune know. giggs is a legend. man.utd 4 ever,

By Bazza.. Posted May 10 2009 at 12:48 PM.

I think it was a big mistake for Tevez to talk to the papers about his displeasure not recieving a contract. I think Sir Alex will have realised that Tevez's time is up at Utd after today. Although I do feel Tevez will start today against City.

The problem is Tevez and Utd are being held to ransom by the company that holds his registration.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Tevez, he works so hard for the team, hes our first line of defence, all the players appreciate what he does for the team, and of course the UTD fans love him to.

However he is not worth 30 million pounds, I would say his current valuation would be 15 to 20 million at the most. He has scored 6 goals in the carling cup and only 3 goals in the league. I mean Vida has scored 7 goals this season!!

Remember what happened to Stam when he stepped out of line?, although I feel that was a mistake by Fergie to let him go to Lazio which he has admitted himself.

10 million plus another 30 million....now would you pay that much money for a player who is the best in the world at chasing down defenders?..thats what you have to ask yourself.

Theres no sentiment in football, and thats the way it should be. We will always love you Tevez for what you have given to this football club. Thank you.

Teves has been a very good proffessional for united and he helped them win the premier and champions league last season, he's a player like a lion and gives all to the team, i see no reason why united should let him go cos he will be surelly be needed at some point. Barbartov's is too slow and dont finish as much as tevez.
United and sir alex should sign tevez without any question, he's one of the world best striker out there and he will be a big loss should he leave united.

By milan.. Posted May 10 2009 at 10:37 AM.

It is true as a Utd fan we all love Tevez and if we only signed Carlos this summer and no other player i would be more than happy. But he's playing at the best club in the world with some of the best strikers in the world so he's gonna get rotated its the same for all the players. It must be hard for Fergie and he has to make tough decisions. But dont go Liverpool if your worried about playing regular football, Rafa rotates his squad more than i've had sunday diners! Look what happened to Robbie Keane...... Come on Fergie sign him up!

By Yan.. Posted May 10 2009 at 9:25 AM.

tevez is an excellent player and should be kept berba is lazy and has the bighead he is a massive mistake and fergie knows it put the bulgarian for sale see how many buyers ferguson should admit his mistakes he has made plenty keep tevez get rid of berba the laziest player ever to put on a united shirt

By Patsy.. Posted May 10 2009 at 9:07 AM.

Third party ownership should be illegal in the game. They have enslaved him for their own ends. Why Utd were allowed to sign him in that way considering the sanctions imposed on the Hammers is indicative of the way the game is run. One rule for clubs like Utd Barca Real Madrid another for the rest. Tevez was treated like that because Ferguson has too many top forwards to keep happy, He prefers Rooney and he would have reacted if dropped to much, Fergie knows Berbatov was a mistake but doesn't want to admit it so the one who keeps quiet and works his socks off gets shafted. The best thing would be if Tevez took his owners to court that contract would not stand up as its against human rights

By Bob.. Posted May 10 2009 at 8:36 AM.

i would love tevez to stay now but every time a player opens his mouth about sir alex his career is over i dont think i you want a contract mr tevez you shouldnt be talkin in the media saying things about the club who pays your wages at the end of the day there are alot of people who wouldnt want your wages carlos i you leave then its youre fault for talkin out of school and about man u and sir alex in papers

By ScoopeX.. Posted May 10 2009 at 7:34 AM.

he needs to score more goals. anyone can run...we use that money on signing someone who can give us 30 goals per season, like Van Nistelrooy...IMHO Bebatov was a waste of money

By john smith.. Posted May 10 2009 at 7:40 AM.

i want to ask tevez this what have you won with other clubs and what are you going to win with other clubs? tevez is lucky to be part of a wining team he wont get that sort of chance with other clubs also he is a hard working player who works his back side off for the team i think he should stay at manchester united he is wanted by the man.u fans they love him and also tevez should score goals often which he does not he should score 1 or 2 goals every game or so manchester unite was made for players like tevez but tevez also as to show respect and be happy

By TEROX.. Posted May 10 2009 at 5:42 AM.

Yet again the money grabbing middle men are ruining sport; Tevez is not the problem, Ferguson is not the problem; the greed of the idiot who "owns" Tevez is the root cause of the problem... United will not be held to ransome and will not blink first - the victim is Tevez and the losers are United fans

By Dr Ed.. Posted May 10 2009 at 5:16 AM.

The way the MU are treating Carlos is so unprofessional. He has done nothing wrong, in fact he has done everything right the previous year. He scored goals (some were vital goals), formed a formidable partnership with rooney and ronaldo among others. They should have let him go earlier, if they have no intention to keep him. He just wasted one year of his life. Look at him now. When was the last time you saw him smile on the field.

By Jay.. Posted May 10 2009 at 4:30 AM.

Poor Fergunson!!!! He has not idea abaout the kind of person Carlos is....Dont exist in the world a player whith the "ganas de jugar " like him...Carlitos change his style..only for belong at ManU.....The next year the fans will cry remenbering Tevez...

By geraldo.. Posted May 10 2009 at 2:33 AM.

A sad story all round. It's clear that Tevez wants to stay at Old Trafford, the fans are desperate for him to remain a United player and I'm certain that Ferguson would love to keep him.

The main problem seems to be the loan arrangement in which his owners has him totally overpriced. Ferguson's managerial experience tells him that 15 or 20 million is the maximum amount that he should pay. What will be interesting now will be to see if anyone is prepared to pay over the top to get his signature.

Talk of offers in excess of 40 million by his owners are simply not believable. No club is going to pay millions over the top when they know full well what the real value is.

The sad part is that Tevez seems to have got caught in a web not of his own making.
