'The Hitman' was gunned down by the world's best fighter when he was knocked out COLD after two minutes 59 seconds of the round of their light-welterweight clash.
He was lifeless before hitting the canvas and it brought back memories of Dave 'Boy' Green getting chilled by Sugar Ray Leonard in 1980 and surely he must now retire.
Click here for more incredible pictures from Hatton v Pacquaio
Hatton, 30, was on the floor twice in the opening round, and although he tried to meet fire with fire the Englishman came off second best.
The ending was sheer horror as the brilliant Filipino detonated a bone chilling left cross that landed with such force, the Mancunian's head bounced off the canvas.
Referee Kenny Bayless took one look at Hatton asleep and quickly called medics to the ring to attend the stricken Briton.

Hatton, beaten for the second time in 47 fights, was motionless for two minutes before his groggy body was plonked on a stool. Hatton surrendered his IBO and Ring Magazine titles, but at least he walked out of the ring, insisting he was fine, before being taken to nearby Valley Hospital as a precaution.
He said: "It was a hard loss, but I'm okay. I didn't see the punch coming, but it was a great shot. I'll be okay."
Hatton's lawyer and business partner Gareth Williams said: "Ricky is desperately sorry for all the fans. He says he got caught by a great shot that he never saw coming.
"He has nothing to be ashamed of. He has lost to the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and perhaps the greatest fighter of all time.

'Pacman's' trainer Freddie Roach who was locked in a feud with Hatton's trainer Floyd Mayweather Snr said: "Manny is a monster. Ricky Hatton is a sucker for right hook and it was an easy night for us. I watched his videos for two months and knew him better than my own fighter."
Pacquiao, 30, said: "I am surprised that this was so easy, but I worked hard on this since March. There is nothing personal for us. I was just doing my job and this was as great for me as the De La Hoya win."

More than 25,000 fans invaded the gambling capital of the world to cheer on Britain's most popular boxer ever. More than half never had tickets and were forced to watch on big screens at casinos.
The biggest fight of 2009 was a winner for ticket touts with £700 tickets changing hands for £1800 in the bustling MGM Grand lobby.
Hatton arrived two hours before the fight wearing sunglasses and hugged teenage fan James Bowes who carried his world championship belts to the ring.

He will never, ever lose his appeal to fans and ringside celebrities who included P-Diddy, J-Lo, Mariah Carey, Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Russell Brand.
That magnificent support from the impeccably behaved crowd couldn't help him being on the receiving end of Pacquiao's lightning quick fists on what was the worst night of his fighting life.
The early indications were good when he used his strength to unsettle Pacquiao, but he soon learned that speed is a powerful weaponwas dropped by a right hook.
Ricky was up quickly, but could not get his head out of the way from punches that speared his head back with mind numbing speed and accuracy.
Seconds before the end of the round, Hatton crashed down in his own corner after taking a sledgehammer left. He was up at five and was undoubtedly saved by the bell.
Amazingly he was fighting back although Hatton was getting tagged far too often. But when Pacquiao unloaded the fatal shot it was a punch few men in the world would have recovered from.

Hatton's younger brother Matthew won his eight round welterweight clash against Ernesto Zepeda scoring a unanimous points verdict on the three judges' cards.
Matthew, 27, was caught several times, but never seriously troubled by his Mexican opponent who has stopped 34 of his 39 victims.
'Magic' Matthew who won for the 36th time in 41 fights is lined up to challenge the winner of IBO title fight between South African pair Lovemore N'Dou and Phillip N'Dou.
Another Mancunian Joe Murray stormed to an impressive win outpointing Missael Nunez in their super-bantamweight tussle.
The Beijing Olympian floored his Los Angeles rival in the third round with a straight right hand, but moments later had a point deducted for hitting Nunez on the back of his head.
Murray, 22, will fight again in June and said: "These tough learning fights are exactly what I need."

Yo Steve are yo ok? Mark Wahlberg was trained by Roach man in Wildcard way back hehe to try and salvage a few pints of honor and dignity for a fallen mate by disguising it with fiction is not a good trait of a media man haha LOSER style, Brit-ish indeed.. :)

Once upon a time Clint Eastwood said something like in one of his "Dirty Harry" movies, "MAN HAS GOT TO KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS". Ricky, sorry to say this, at the moment, there is really nothing you can do to beat Manny Pacquiao. Manny is at his deadly prime. Manny did not become the No.1 p4p for nothing. The title was not given to him on a silver platter. You really have to know your limitations. There is nothing to be ashamed of. You just happened to fight a better one - the deadly variety. Some fighters are really smarter and DEADLIER THAN OTHERS.

i watched the fight in vegas, true ricky was poor on defense but he is a good fighter still,
i was just relieved to see he was okay! if he does decide to fight again i will be there to support him,
good luck to him in whatever is decides to do in the future.

At least he is brave enough to fight the elite, unlike Calzaghe. Peter Manfredo got a shot instead of Froch; so that proves your hero Calzaghe prefers the safer choice.

It seems such a pity that the majority of comments seem to come from, almost, illiterate people. Unable to spell and make clear and concise statements.
Perhaps they are better judges of the match than I am.
I am still proud to be English with such bravery in adversity. I am sure we will have some more heros in the future.

What a waste of time, all that hype from Hatton saying he was going to beat Pacman, guess the saying: The Bigger they are they harder they fall, comes to mind here.
We really haven't had a decent British Boxer in years, they all seem to let us down in the long run.

I cant believe there are people actually criticizing rickyhatton,he's brought the most excitment to a british ring since nazeem hamed, lets face it pacquaio lives up to his p4p crown with a world class performance but iv not seen him look so worried until hatton charged at him, all be it for only about 30 seconds in the second round, but he looked shocked and scared, all i say is god bless you ricky hatton ur a true legend.

By pinoy. Posted May 4 2009 at 7:01 AM.
Ricky should just retire...it's embarrassing if he's still come back..saying those words to manny..predicting his own win..claiming that he'll KO pacman..
the only reason he hasn't lose to 140 pounds is because manny was not in 140 before..
i feel sorry for those many who bet on him..
next time bet on the right fighter
By JJ. Posted May 4 2009 at 2:30 AM.
Firstly, all these people criticising - moreover, cussing Hatton is disgusting - it goes to show how many idiots there are out there - thick minded, shallow & down right rude. For years Rickys' entertained & thrilled us - ive been privalidged to have watched him all the way. He's provided some of the best, exciting, thrilling boxing, Ricky Hatton nights have always been a thing to be anticipated & have genuinely exited everyone - absaloutely fantastic.
He makes me proud to be British - a true British fighter - and has represented us sooo well. I beleive in his ability - yeah he got caught out -- so...manny's lost 2 fights aswell. The only times he has lost have been against the no1 in the planet- The 1st fight he wouldve battered floyd if it werent for the ref - the 2nd one - i think his tactics werent right -- so what?? I reckon he could still be the best pound for pound - just a few minor changes -like being a little less gung-ho from the off etc - hes more than capable of doing the business. Enough respect - hes a true legend - if he does retire - good on him he can bow out with his head held high - but i will definately be sad to see him hang up his gloves - an unforgetable boxer.
By danny m. Posted May 4 2009 at 1:21 AM.
Hatton I have nothing but respect 4 u. Amir Khan will never be the British representative. However, I am worried about you. you need to keep yourself known as a good fighter. you have an excellent record, but have lost your last 2 main matches. bow out now before everyone brands you as "past it"
By Sammy Boi. Posted May 4 2009 at 1:36 AM.
one of the first things he said after he lost was sorry to the fans . Sorry to all of us. after all he has given to us. just goes to show what kind of bloke he is.one of the best i am one of the lucky ones to of meet him and know that what you see is what you get .whatever you do now you will always be a star and i think i talk for all of us your fans when i say thank you ricky hatton and you have nothing to be sorry for
By steve tovey. Posted May 4 2009 at 1:03 AM.
Im sorry for ricky the guy has given the UK great nights of boxing, less of the finished talk, pacman has had 3 loses in his career oscar has had 6 loses so what's the the big deal on that night anyone of these top boxers can win, give hatton a break I want to see him fight the loser of the next floyd mayweather fight, he wins that then a rematch with one of the two guys that beat him the script will be set. I still think ricky is a great fighter. Ring magazine fighter of the year, everyone knows how great a fighter ricky is, no need for the quit talk thats an easy answer, but he can go on and win again and all the real fans will watch ricky.

Unfortunately ricky was outclassed again, these guys manny and mayweather are super talented, one offs like sugar ray and ali. ricky was too predictable just like naseem, over hyped and found out and in boxing there is nowhere to hide. call it a day mate, this will happen everytime he steps up in class.

By carlton. Posted May 3 2009 at 7:42 PM.
Manny Pacquiao is at his peak while Ricky Hatton is way past his best. Hatton is now a shadow of his former self as his reflexes have slowed, his defensive skills are no longer and his punch resistance is gone. When this happens to a boxer they should hang up there gloves and retire. Especially a boxer like Ricky who has made more than enough money from the sport and will always be remembered for what he acheived in boxing.
By Martin. Posted May 3 2009 at 6:03 PM.
If Ricky decides to fight some more, he should employ the likes of Freddie Roach. That Mayweather Sr. couldn't train a clown to be funny!!!

Is this a forum for red supporters to slag Man City or is it a discussion about a boxing match?
You can see that Hatton has trained and is extremely fit, he knew that it was going to be a difficult fight. I'd challenge you weeds out there to get in a ring with a boxer that trains in the way that Pacman does. Well done Ricky!

Memo to Mr Hatton, please retire now before you embarress yourself and Manchester anymore. Where do i start ? Hatton shown Pacquaio no respect in the ring at all. There was no guile or thought in Hattons display whatsoever. Pacquaio must of thought it was his birthday in that ring. To beat Pacquaio it will take an intelligent pugilist and Hatton is not an intelligent pugilist, he is a one dimensional brawler who lacks any real ringcraft. Retire now Hatton, you're beginning to be show us mancs up.

Surely now we have seen the last of Ricky, I've watched boxing for years now and I've NEVER thought Ricky was anything special, and last night was proof of that.
Like most things from Manchester, OVER-RATED, and all about money!!!
Get yourself off Ricky, theres nowhere else for you to go now, its over.
There IS and ONLY ever will be one great fighter to come from the UK and thats Joe Callzaghe, who deserves more respect than Ricky has ever had.
One last thing, if your thinking of making a comeback, (yawn, yawn) the only remote chance of me ever watching you fight again is if you fight Junior Witter, give us what we want, you've avoided this fight for years thinking you were just too good, but we all know now this aint the case. Maybe this will be the ONLY way back for you
By Angela. Posted May 3 2009 at 1:40 PM.

Unlucky, Ricky. There is no shame in losing to a great like Pacman. You have brought us all so much excitement throughout your brilliant career, so thank you. There are some deluded people here saying 'hold your head up high', 'proud', etc. Hatton is a fraud. He keeps taking your cash (Sky money) to eithger fight bozos or occasionally (Mayweather/Pacquaio) steps up a level & gets shown up BIG TIME.
He is a fraud, another Frank Bruno & the daft Briish public love that. The under-dog, the nearly-man.

Hatton hasn't had a truly decent win since castillo! Malinaggi can't punch and so allowed Ricky to do what he wanted-walking through his light punches. Nick Carter, you think Hatton would have beaten Pacquiao 4 years ago? Get real! Even Hatton said Pacman would have beaten him 4 FIGHTS ago!! Hatton is and always has been tactically inept, and can only box 1 way - in straight lines, like a bulldog. That may bee nough to beat less tactically gifted fighters, but when you come up against the best, you lose. The old saying is true...you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Like any typical British sports person, too much mouth and no action.

hang your head in shame and walk in to the darkness

should never have got rid of his trainer. he had no defence any guy in the street could have put him over he was that open. What happened to the good Ricky Hatton, he went with his old trainer. quote Freddy Roach." We new he was wide open to right hooks" if he could see it why did his trainer not?

i got up to watch probably the best 5 minutes of sheer force and control, researched and chillingly calculated Manny is the best fighter i have ever seen and that goes above everyone in the past 25 years, simply devastating!
well done ricky but this was never going to be your day, with your media activities and that loss to mayweather defeat you are not the fighter you were. it would be no shame to retire now, you have been awesome.

Hatton? That was a speed trail called Pacquiao heading for Phillipine via Las vegas. Retirement will be a good option
By Robert Chalemetsa. Posted May 3 2009 at 9:55 AM.
call it a day ricky you have nothing to prove to anyone.
you have been the most outstanding fighter for many years now.

IM GLAD I DIDN;T LOOSE ANT SLEEP OVER THAT FIGHT PATHETIC,,,
By NADIA-MARIE JACOBS. Posted May 3 2009 at 9:33 AM.
its time for ricky to retire. he has had an outstanding boxing career and should call it a day now. And that dont mean keep coming back for one off fights like mike tyson. there is no doubt 4 years ago he would of floored Pacquiao but he is tired now and floyd mayweather proved that.
drink all the guiness and eat all the pies now lad. Stick to running the gym and teach what you know.
your boxing days are over hang up the gloves dude

I agree Hatton has had his day now. I think he should have kept Billy Graham has his trainer, I don't think Mayweather snr brought any thing to Hattons game. Happy retirement Ricky!

that little weedy bloke loretta is one of the best fighters in the world and i you would have seen his previous fights you would of seen this, you are obviously not a boxing fan!! Feel for hatton but pacman is just an animal.
By kerry. Posted May 3 2009 at 9:06 AM.
Hatton will have one more fight..against aamir khan..just to make money n make khan famous....
By Rashad Mahmood. Posted May 3 2009 at 9:01 AM.
I agree Hatton has had his day now. I think he wanted to finish on top, but to beat Pacquaio he needed to be on top form, and Mayweather knock that out of him. Hatton is a big character and it would be good to see him sat in the studio now.
