DALGLISH SET TO RETURN

Anfield legend will become club ambassador

RAFA BENITEZ - help
RAFA BENITEZ - help

KENNY DALGLISH is set to agree a shock return to Liverpool.

The Kop legend is wanted by Rafa Benitez and the Anfield board in an ambassadorial and advisory role and I understand an official arrangement will soon be finalised.

Dalglish will pay particular attention to the youth academy with Liverpool hoping his unique standing in the game would help attract the cream of young talent.

A source close to Dalglish told me last night: "Kenny believes there have been a lot of positive changes behind the scenes at Anfield recently.

"And being Liverpool through and through, if the club thought he could be of any help whatsoever to Rafa and to Liverpool then, of course, the idea would be interesting to him."

Dalglish has not reacted to suggestions he could be back on the Anfield staff but, privately, he has told friends he would be happy to help - as long as the proposal had the total support of Benitez.

And that seems to be the case with Rafa keen to use Dalglish's experience and position in the game.

Even though Dalglish left his post as manager in 1991 his ties with Liverpool have remained incredibly strong. And he has a good relationship with Benitez and senior players such as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

fergie goes on about raffa disrepecting sam ,with geustures if you counted the amont of times he gets away with dissing other managers constanly.
then telling reporters what raffa movements mean defies belive.

By ray kel.. Posted April 21 2009 at 2:00 PM.

Hysen actually had a very strong partnership in 89-90 with Jockey Hansen. Speedie made a very big impact in 1991 - including 2 goals against Everton on his debut.

This season the league title will be back at Anfield. Fergie talks about Benitez showing contempt, what about the disrespect he showed to Everton by fielding a reserve team in an FA Cup semi final!!?

Smelly Mancs are playing like a bunch of amateurs at the moment and it's only a matter of time before the luck runs out.

Great news for football. King Kenny's return to Anfield is overdue. As a Celtic fan, I disagree with the statement of his time as Manager after the failed John Barnes experiment. As manager that season Kenny won the Scottish Cup to rescue our season then stepped aside for Martin O'Neill. He is a selfless, decent man - the best player Scotland has ever produced.

I'd just like to correct Mallorca Stu. Dalglish took over in 1985 not 1986 from Fagan where in his first season he won the double. He also won the title in 88 and 90 and was runner up in 87, 89. Not to mention an FA cup win in 89 and losing finalists in 88 so he hardly turned them into also rans. Also, Pieknik was signed by Souness. Perhaps he should be remembered for signings such as Beardsley, Barnes, Aldridge, Houghton and McMahon, anyone wish to argue that they were bad signings? Man Utd had'nt competed for the league in 26 years before 1993 so not competing in the last 5 is no comparison

By Keith.. Posted April 19 2009 at 12:05 PM.

Rafa could use Dalglish's experience, what experience is that then....taking possibly the best team in the world off Joe Fagan in 86 and turning it into a team of also-rans that havent competed for the league (until this year) in the space of 5 years. Hysen, Pieknik, David Speedie, as a United fan I think they should get him in there today.

By Mallorca Stu.. Posted April 19 2009 at 11:10 AM.

with kenny by his side it will bring a breath of fresh air to the best club in the world!! dalglish is a legend liverpoolfootball club runs through his veins, bring it on kenny we love you.

By jacqueline.. Posted April 19 2009 at 10:01 AM.

It would be fantastic news for LFC if King Kenny Dalglish game back in whatever role,he has been an ardent supporter of Rafa's and has a unique insight into the game, knowns a good player when he sees one,and is an absolute inspiration and true Legend.
Rafa is a very intelligent man he regonises the importance of a Liverpool sole at the club as he did with Sammy Lee slowly he is building a new Boot Room and with it Future success.

By Ehjaz.. Posted April 19 2009 at 9:59 AM.

The king is back....long live the king!!! Kenny is a god and to have him back at Liverpool will make us even more of a force to be reckoned with next year!!! Fergie...stop playing your head games and Fat Boy Sam....go and see if your son can get you a few decent players....!!!!

By Yozzer.. Posted April 19 2009 at 8:41 AM.

WHERE ONCE WE WATCHED THE KING KENNY PLAY AND COULD HE PLAY.

This is great news. The GREATEST player that ever lived coming back to the greatest team that there has ever been can only be good news.

Well done to LFC for the support you continue to give to the Hillsborough famalies. You make us proud as always.

COME ON YOU MIGHTY REDS

A Manager with a real bit of CLASS going back to LIVERPOOL maybe he can teach BENITEZ how to behave3BE QUIET YOU MUPPET,WENGER FERGUSON FAT SAM R TEN TIMES WORSE THEN RAFA,HWE LOVE KING KENNY AND OFFCOURSE WHAT HE SAID ABOUT FERGUSON A LONG TUME AGO WAS CLASSIC,ABOUT HIS DAUGHTER MAKING MORE SENSE THEN HIM LOL

By ALASATRA.. Posted April 19 2009 at 8:11 AM.

"Kenny Dalglish is Dalglish through and through" - very well said Joe. But the possibility of King Kenny coming back to Liverpool is a breath of fresh air and sign that work is being done to bring back the 'elusive' Premier League trophy. No doubt we are more close than ever.

By Shai.. Posted April 19 2009 at 5:29 AM.

Great news, with Ferguson cracking up and retiring soon, LFC now have the best players, best team, best manager, best ambassador, .......

By mighty reds.. Posted April 19 2009 at 5:39 AM.

Liverpool through and through? Who are you kidding? Kenny Dalglish is Dalglish through and through and thats all.

By Joe.. Posted April 19 2009 at 2:45 AM.

A Manager with a real bit of CLASS going back to LIVERPOOL maybe he can teach BENITEZ how to behave

By Fwalker.. Posted April 19 2009 at 4:07 AM.

I said a while ago king kenny should be back at liverpool and if he comes back we might not have to say next year we'll win the PL hope he's signed again

By bonnythescouser.. Posted April 19 2009 at 12:26 AM.

Desperate times for LFC.....trying to recapture past glories like a washed up-jaded rockstar. At least Take That had the sense NOT to invite Robbie Williams back! LOL! The guy is a has-been...not seriously involved in the game for the best part of 8 years.

By TH.. Posted April 19 2009 at 12:12 AM.

I said ages ago that king kenny should be liverpool manager again and now for rafa to want him back means we may now win the elusive pl title. Maybe now we can stop saying maybe next year, I hope kenny show's rafa how to be a liverpool manager and bring out the best of the players he's got.
We've got about 7 or 8 players that forms the neucleus of the best side we've had for many years I hope it works.

By bonnythe scouser.. Posted April 18 2009 at 11:43 PM.

Bring back kenny to spook fergie when he was boss fergie had won sweet F.A.

By A.FINNIGAN.. Posted April 18 2009 at 11:26 PM.
