CLAUDIO RANIERI believes Guus Hiddink has saved Chelsea from the dark days they endured under Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Hiddink has made an immediate impression at Stamford Bridge. And former Blues boss Ranieri reckons the team are in rude health thanks to the Dutchman's arrival.
The Italian led Chelsea to the semi-final of the Champions League in 2004 and now Hiddink's men have one foot in the last four after their super 3-1 midweek win against Liverpool.
Ranieri, speaking on Italian television, said: "I admire Hiddink. He has changed it at Chelsea. There were reports Scolari's team did not train much, that his tactics were too obvious and he used to leave out Didier Drogba.
"Hiddink has his side in optimum condition. Scolari used to play horizontally, that is why he used Nicolas Anelka instead of Drogba. When you have someone like Drogba in the team, it's hard to leave him out."
